As Mech. Eng. I would recommend the top holes to be smaller than the Bottom. You want more flow in the bottom but you also want to create pressurized air in the wall gap. The air will naturally warm and rise to create this pressurized effect.

The Company who made it did a Lot of R & D for each product. Also the more sealed the edges of the inner metal ring to the outer brick the better. I noticed previously the smoke coming out of the top of the ring lip and the brick.

I sold my Worksharp because it doesn't sharpen both sides evenly. On the right side, the belt pulls the knife down; on the left, it pushes it up. It was a PAIN to get an even grind on both sides. I tried for YEARS to like it but was glad when I finally sold it.

Uh, 10 dB quieter isn't enough to buy a premium impact driver, especially one with a different battery. HUGE fail on that one. I don't think ANYONE wonders what they did before buying a slightly quieter impact driver.

As im watching this video im noticing a trend with youtube woodworkers. You guys love pocket holes, baltic birtch and glueing everything. I dont understamd why you guys glue shop projects together. I dont understamd why you guys all use unfinished baltic birch for everything then spend forever applying finish and sanding inbetween coats. Why not just use prefinish birch. It has a mich better fi ish and it will save you a really long time. And last but not least i dont understamd the love affair you guys all have with pocket holes. Pocket holes have there place n woodworking but you guys use them for everything. Despite what you guys claim, its not quick and easy.

Sawmiller here. Regarding moisture content I think it's worth saying that the driest wood is not always the best, and picking that piece that's at 8% might be a mistake. Wood doesn't just dry and then stop. Over time it reaches equilibrium with the air humidity around it. The relative air humidity in different environments is very variable. I know for example that the rocking chair in my kitchen is at 9% but the shelves in my workshop are over 13%. If I make something with a board at 8% and then keep it in the workshop, it'll actually absorb water from the air over time to reach equilibrium at 13%, and warping will occur. Tldr: pick the board that is at the closest moisture content to where it'll end up, not just the driest.

The solo stove uses a ring at the top which is smaller than the pit diameter forming something of a venturi just above the upper holes. I wonder if pitching the heated air from the upper holes more towards the center would help with secondary ignition.

Others have said it: Rot and moisture. Amateur mistake to just contact wet soil with lumber. But if you insist on doing this way: treat bottom face with pine tar/linseed oil combo then add borate/ground clay mix to keep long term termites/carpenter ants, etc away.

This would have been a better design if they had made a perimeter around the complete area with cinder blocks where they removed the grass, instead of laying the big posts directly on the ground.
