I've been doing a 3 minute plank for 3 days now! It's super hard and I fall a lot but I can literally feel myself getting stronger everyday. I can also see a change in my body!

I've been doing planks often for the past 4 months .. In the beginning my stomach used to come down when i plank even if i tried to tuck it in but after 2 or 3 months it became flatter and when i plank it doesnt come down anymore its more toned now

I'm nearly 70. I started having back problem over 40 years ago. Once I found out about planks, I stopped having backaches. Once your core is tightened, 2 minutes a day keeps you shape. 4-6 sets of 1 minute planks will get you looking good.

Shimon La Hée actually you can do a form of core exercise on your back on your bed, it's called a banana roll, raise your legs straight out and up about two to three feet and your arms up and over your head also about two to three feet up and raise your head a bit off the bed or ground or whatever and hold it.
This also works well on a padded surface or thick carpet floor.

I thought the voice was pretty difficult to listen to. I'm an actor, voice artist and producer, and the cadence in his voice just seems unnatural and is just not listenable for long periods, IMO. To each his own, of course.
There is no such thing as local fat burning. The fat surrounding a muscle group doesn't just burn away when that muscle group contracts. Those muscle contractions, if they continue for a period of time with enough intensity or volume, will only lead to hypertrophy, meaning that muscle group will be repaired to be stronger and bigger(when a caloric surplus is provided). Best way to get rid of fat is a calorie restricted diet. Combined with weight training, your body's energy consumption will be so high (lots of calories are needed for muscle repairs) your body will start to lose fat. Also, your body is programmed to preserve muscle and use just fat to supply energy when there is enough stress in the muscles (weight training) since body determines you need those muscles. Instantaneous fat burn happens only during cardio and even then it isn't burnt locally. It is used as energy source since glycogen stores in the muscles cannot supply the body with energy while your heart rate is elevated for a period of time. So you switch to aerobic mode (burning fat with oxygen). But even the most intense cardio sessions can only burn 700 kcal in an hour. So doing cardio to burn fat isn't really the wisest decision. You should rather do cardio for its cardiovascular and other health benefits and fat burning should come at the side as a small extra benefit. So in short, plank or any kind of resistance training won't burn the fat instantaneously and you won't be able to lose fat without a caloric deficit. Basic formula to lose fat: caloric deficit + weight training + cardio = leaner and healthier body. Here, i wrote everything you need to know to hit the gym.

I would say that beginners should only do as much as they can (both hands). When I began, I was lucky to hold it for 4 or 5 seconds. Now, even after months of practice (but, admittedly, only doing it twice a week), my max has been 50 seconds.
This video has inspired me to do it more days during the week. I expect I would improve more quickly.

fun fact, you can actually safely lie on a nail bed. pressure is force over area, and if u have a nail "bed" (which i'm assuming is big enough for a person to lie on), there will be a large area, and since area is in the denominator(P = F/A), the force is dispersed throughout that large area and pressure will be low and won't be enough to penetrate your skin and harm you. simply physics, it's not magic, this is why u can see people lying on nails with a cinderblock on their belly and having someone smash it but nothing happens. now if you lie on a very small area of nails...rip

Planks has almost totally gotten rid of my mommy bag and nothing else for the past ten years helped much. I have shoulder injuries and back problems and this is the only thing that I can do without screwing myself up and it works so well! I love it. It shaped my body almost immediately. I get a full body workout and it’s great bc I don’t like cardio exercise or goofy exercise moves at all. I like to run and walk and jump rope. And plank. I used to worship bicycle kicks and captain chair but the planks blew these out the water for me. This and the fundamentals yoga is the true way to exercise your body as far as walking and running. Your body responds to these exercises mines doesn’t respond to all that other goofy stuff bc I don’t feel it. If it’s Dances I like and enjoying that’s different.

One thing they did not tell you is planking is great if you do not suffer from High Blood Pressure as isometric muscle exercises (including the plank) (Exercises that contract a muscle without movement) will raise the systolic BP by a large amount. As with all exercise, you have pro's and con's.
Richard Holtom I was going to start planking with my mom and she has very high blood pressure. I'm happy I saw this because now I will not let her do it.
What you could do is get her to do slow dynamic abs exercises. If she can not do abs crunches or bicycles then try it from a chair.

Interesting post Richard Holtom. I agree that a lot of things can cause danger, when high BP is present. I do not advertise ANYTHING here, but I will tell you what has helped me. I am type 1 diabetic for 48 years, I do have high BP, and have Lisinopril to help with that, but my BP is still higher than I would like. I am overweight and really want to get rid of some lbs (self harming eating crap, pizza, chocolate, sweets, beer, all things bad - NO MORE!) .. But, of course, I worry about doing exercise because of the risk of my BP, and a potential heart failure. What I will say, is that I take 3 cloves of organic garlic, chop it up, wait 10 minutes (to allow it to oxidise - VERY important), mix it with a small teaspoon of organic honey, and swallow straight... I also drink 2 cups of hibiscus tea daily. And finally, I like to get as close to nature as possible with my eating, (fruit, veg, some fish, small amount of meat - NOTHING processed). These things alone have actually reduced my BP considerably, to the point where I am actually now able to do a lot of HIIT, something I would not have even considered previously. I would like to suggest you, or anyone else reading this, to perhaps try one of more of these suggestions - YES, I appreciate it is hard, but I really do believe that longevity depends on these actions. I cannot guarantee you will have results like mine, but, if you google/youtube the suggestions I have made, it may help. I wish you all well.

You're right and wrong. It is impossible to exclusively workout a muscle without affecting other areas of the body or other muscles even in some very small way, however, you can perform exercises that isolate" work to targeted muscle. Of course this is only in my experience and opinion..:)

I've been doing a plank daily for around 4 weeks now (I'm literally the most unathletic person you'll meet). I only started doing it because I'm getting graded on it in P.E. class but I'll definitely continue planking! In the beginning I couldn't do more than 30 seconds without almost dying, now 3 minutes seems easy! So don't get discouraged if you can't hold it for very long in the beginning!

Unfortunately there is not such thing as spot fat removal. You need to keep your heart rate up during your workouts to keep your body body fat % lower. Lower your rest time in between sets. Planks are for sure an amazing exercise for building a stronger and better looking core. So in that case it is important to still do abb exercises overall.

Actually, you have to be in a caloric deficit to keep body fat % lower. you can keep your heart rate up and still if you're eating in a surplus, you will gain body fat.

Losing belly fat specifically is in your diet. Working out on a calorie deficit will reduce fat everywhere, not just one place on your diet. Eat clean, lower your sodium and processed sugar intake, you will see your belly fat lean up a bit visually in 2 weeks to a month.
