it's actually insane that a multi-billion dollar franchise is outdone by a small team of developers. how does pokemon STILL look this bad...it almost looks like a ps2 game.

Reminder that Pokemon have several horses in their long list of creatures and you can't ride any of them.
They have a ton of large birds, and dragons that can fly and you can't ride any of them.
They have so many sea creatures that can swim vast oceans and you can't ride any of them.
Because a multi-billion dollar company with 20+ years of experience can't code any of that.
And the crazy thing is LGPE did just that, only for them drop the foundation, cause they “gotta rush them all” for the yearly/annual release schedule
Well we can now ride certain Pokemons in Pokemon legends Arceus game but palworld does it better
This is really sad. I would be more forgiving of Palworld looking like Scarlet/Violet than I am of Scarlet/Violet looking like they do. And there is no excuse when you consider how much money the Pokémon franchise makes and the fact that we have "Dragon Quest 11" and "Shin Megami Tensei 5" on the Switch.
They even managed to get Hogwarts legacy to run on switch, their is absolutely no reason for Scarlet/Violet to look as bad as it does.

I'm a long time fan of Pokèmon but Palworld is better UNLESS Pokèmon makes better games.
Even more baffling is that palworld didn't even do much; they mostly grabbed unreal assets and shoved them here and there, and yet it still looks better than pokemon...

for how much fans like myself have payd for in the past decade the quality control of the games has not held up. palworld has put a magnifying glass to how little game freak themselves actually care about what they sell us simply because they know that we will... or would have bought it regardless.
if anything palworld is a good thing. whether or not the game itself is good. its lighting a fire under gamefreaks ass as a message.
we love Pokémon but they need to do better. pokemon is no longer alone in their market so they have to step up their game.
we dont game breaking bugs at launch.
to Nintendo. we want a better console with more than a base of 40 gb's of storage
This is a classic example of why it's unfair to compare smaller, indie games to the titans of the gaming industry... Right up until you ask "Wait... Which one's the Indie title, again??".
Having said that? Graphics aren't everything, and Pokemon doesn't NEED bleeding edge visuals. But they could at least TRY to look like they're more than 2 steps up from Mario 64! Especially when Palworld is possible on a VASTLY smaller budget!
im so disappointed with pokemon its so baaaadddd
I'm so disappointed with palworld its so baaaadddd
that doesnt change the fact that pokemon produced a bunch of SLOP for no reason
The way GF degraded the summoning animation/graphics from PLA is insane
Great comparison
from what I remember: Pokemon was originally for portable devices, from the Game Boy to the Nintendo 3DS, but when they moved to the Switch era, their schedule was... messy, made themselves an original game with half of their budget but didn't make the cut, then rushing to make games like this. (Except Legends Arceus in which i think is a spin as a response to fans criticisms, here's to looking forward for the new Legends game!)
and Palworld was from a small company who actually learned how to make a decent game cuz they got serious and hired someone with many experiences on game development, yet had to start off from scratch to make it again on Unreal Engine instead of Unity.
Truly a miraculous story.
(And also it's hilarious, coming from a Pokemon fangirl myself)
As good as Palworld's graphics are, there is something to be said for choosing artstyle over realistic graphics. Games like Windwaker prove a good artstyle can stand the test of time far better than just pure graphical power. Pokemon S/V on the other hand, has neither going for it.
Very true. SV looks horrible, not just from a graphics standpoint, but from art style point as well. It looks bland and uninspired, nothing about it pops out. Conversely look Legends Arceus. It's not a gorgeous game, there are better looking games on the Switch than it. But it's much more pleasing to the eye because it has a good art style that shines through even with the not great textures.
I personally wouldn't care if pokemon's graphics never become realistic or groundbreakingly artistic. What broke me is the monotony of the graphics in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. With the exception of a few visually interesting areas, the world in between the towns seems barren/empty. I started wishing the maps were smaller. In the first DLC, there is a road called "Reveler's Road." Halfway down the road, there is a little spring that you can't interact with. That spring, the apple orchard, and the rice fields saved the DLC for me. Everything else between the towns in the DLC was "Gah... not again. Why does it take so long to travel between places?"
I kind of expected more from THE biggest video game franchise of all time
Pokemon is for children. They freely admit this, after earlier generations they said they would not be growing with their fans and instead seeking new younger audiences.
That's no excuse to make a half assed game 😂
Children deserve better
@@friendlyneighborhoodnoob Based on what? Children I have seen are more than happy to play lower quality games.
@@MouseDestruction being happy with low quality games doesn't mean they deserve worse, it just means they ar not as picky as us adults
@@kon0212 Well i can certainly say they could be better than pokemon. I do think there are arguments against putting your children in too realistic simulation perhaps. Obviously the line is somewhere between those two options. But the fact is that you CAN sell a bad game to children and they are fine with it, so they will do that.
While some of these choices are for art style, you cant deny that Pal World is just more polished, even when compared to a video of Pokemon SV at 60 FPS, I still think pal world wins by a large margin. Partly due to system restraints yes the switch is old, and also including the target audience, but overall, I definitely feel like more work went into Pal World then Pokemon. For half the price, I have spent twice as much time in Pal World and having a blast the entire time vs having Scarlet since launch and only collecting 70-80 hours, mostly grinding and trying for good RNG parties or on discords looking for parties for the raids.
Some people mention Pal world's drop in players, I would just like to say that its still early access and to wait to see the numbers again when updates hit, major updates expanding on what they have, not just bug fixes.
Yeah, but the Switch was entirely capable of handling BOTW at launch, before any of the gradual optimizations that come over time with any console hardware.
Literally at its WORST moment, the hardware was capable of VASTLY better quality. So what's S/V's excuse??
@@Arclite02 literally the entire scope of the game, didnt wanna sound pro pal and eff pokemon, but the entire premise of an open world pokemon game with live encounters was going to tax the hardware too much comparatively to breath of the wild which had fewer but more dynamics going on. BoTW was way more optimized opposed to SV, and I dont doubt that SV could have been way more optimized. A switch is no match for any budget PC, be real
Is not fair, you cannot compare a 2001 game vs a 2024 game...
Because scarlet/violet was released in 2001, right? ..... right? 😢
So that pokemon motorcycle just has.. awkward balls and chin as wheels? or what
Thanks to everyone who got the video to a 100 likes, it doesn't seem like a lot but it really helps out the channel! I'd really appreciate it if you guys can sub as well thank you!
quite telling that i can't find a graphics comparison focusing on the creatures, at most is about the mounts, but mostly about the grass, the desert... kinda missing the point of why people play Pokemon
Very valid point, I've seen lots of videos where people are directly comparing the designs of Pokemon vs Pals but the reason they are comparing them is to try to "prove" that palworld copied designs from Pokemon. I've never seen one comparing the graphics of the sprites themselves so it might be an interesting video to make.
Pokemon: if my granma has wheels, she would have been a bike
I like palworlds graphics better ... But i dont necessarily think Pokemons is all that bad ... The plastic-like nature of everything sort of leads into the art style they focus on for their chars
I agree to a certain extent but some aspects of the graphics are inexcusable like the flat looking cliffs straight out of an n64 game, the way you summon Pokemon looks really bland compared to palworld and the world feels really empty, like compare the ruins in both examples. I still like Pokemon but there's so much they can improve on.
@@spacelabgamer fair ig
No this is just low low low graphics this isnt a 'style' you can see same texture on pokemon again and again. The Switch Can run red Dead. Ok i guess the switch Cant run palword with pc graphics. And there is no occlusion ambiante no realtime lights low shadow
@@spacelabgamerthe way Pokémon are summoned doesn’t just look bland, it’s straight up unfinished
Pokemon SV human designs are the worst in the series tbh, from the trainer classes to the gymleaders. The generic trainers look like shit and don't make sense (why is an old man a student at a school for kid trainers?) and the only good gym leader designs are Iono and Larry, probably because they're DELIBRATELY designed to be cute and bland respectively (which is rather unfortunate in Larry's case, because it isn't a good sign when the most boring guy is one of the best designs). The rest just look ugly or lifeless (seriously what the fuck is that ghost leader, and don't get me started on Team Star...). And about the plasticky look, IMO the gross shading/lighting on all of them doesn't help matters either.
The human enemies in Palworld aren't much to write home about either, but at least the tower bosses look appealing and memorable (though there's currently only a few of the so far, which makes it easier to remember all of them). Just look at Zoe (she feels like a less stupid version of Mela the more that I look at her lmao), Lily, and Victor. Hell, even the Nessa clone from the old trailers is more unforgettable than the souless husks of SV (though maybe it's PRECISELY because she hasn't released yet that we remember her so strongly).
Anyways I could go on and on about how I don't like the trainers in Scarlet and Violet, sorry for writing an essay and sorry if I made myself look stupid or angry. I also don't mind if you like the humans in SV either, I know character design is more subjective compared to graphical fidelity, (I know some people don't like how Leon from SWSH wears both shorts and pants, but personally I like his design) plus you're entitled to your own opinion.
Edit: I just realized you might be talking about the pokemon themselves and not the trainers, now I feel like an idiot lol
Scarlet looks like a high end N64 game with a more later 2000s character inserted in it XD.
Did you know that the graphics engine is the same?
Yeah....
Nintendo released a trailer for Legends Z-A.
While Legends was the best Pokémon game on the Switch with it's unique twist, I'm still not convinced.
(which already isn't saying much, because the best of the worst is still pretty bad)
There was no gameplay of Z-A, and they stated that the game would take place entirely within Lumiose City.
The return of mega evolution is a crowd pleaser, but I dont think it can save the game if it looks bad.
I stick to my statement ever since Palworld was released.
If it cant keep a steady framerate, have either new animations or the national dex returned, or have highly detailed models and textures...
...This game will not be worth it. (the national dex was cut for new animations, but the animations ended up being recycled anyway)
I will wait a month or two after release, before I decide whether the game is worth my money or not.
Also, beware.. I suspect Nintendo will go hard with the early-purchase-bonus on this game.
DON'T FALL FOR IT.
AAA studios are getting lazy and greedy. This is a good thing. They should be challenged. In the 90s it was so competitive. They've been complacent for a long time
gamefreak needs to use unreal

Pokémon with its own stylized graphics.
Palworld uses Unreal Engine 5.
The land and cliff textures still look like ass
You can’t deny that
stylized graphic.. ..wat a lame joke..
This isn't "stylized graphics", this is just a display of low budget. Real stylized graphics would be the old cel shading in the earlier Palworld trailers (which i'm still pretty disappointed they removed for the actual game tbh)
In all fairness I do like the pokeball animation pokemon has
Still no excuse for everything else though

Palworld is what happens when Pokemon Evolves.
Okay I love ranting about Pokémon graphics but seriously, you CAN'T compare Palworld graphics with Pokémon graphics.
Two different Platforms with different performance + release date. I would say that you obviously can improve map and game design ALOT in the new pokémon games and palworld shows us that this is possible with not much more effort but just the graphics are not really comparable
The Legend of Zelda lol
@@legocityxd_007 yeah I personally think that even Breath of the wild graphics feels alot more fitting and polished, even if they are not looking ''sharper'' or ''better'' but it looks and feels more intended there so graphics there are overall better to me.
You don't have to have super duper graphics to have a good game,
No man sky proves that.
Very true... But lo-fi graphics are still a deliberate choice that needs to be done right. Lots of work goes into pulling off low graphics successfully.
Pokemon S/V... They're just not really TRYING, at this point.
pokemon is so bad LOL Palworld is better in every way. rip nintendoh
Not sure you can compare a Switch Game to a PC Game..
You can because Palworld is also avaiable on Xbox which means it's a console game like Pokemon is for the switch
Plus the switch has other open world games like tlozbotw, Xenoblade 3, and they don't look that horrible in comparison, so what the hell are you talking about, what's the excuse?
Stop, stop, he's already dead!
