An AFE filter and a turbo inlet pipe will breathe just the same as an intake, for half the cost. plus unless your stage 2 you really don’t need it. (Which you can’t do without a downpipe).
There’s a guy online who flow tested every intake, wealth of information on his site. (mygolfmk7.com/2019/09/ultimate-mk7-gti-air-intake/).
Try a downpipe first, it could easily be loud enough for you, I’ve had plenty of people think I had an exhaust because of it; Plus you need it for stage 2 anyway.
The brakes are very good for stage 1-2 unless you track or do canyon runs, just get some good pads. There’s ton of info online as far as the best performing pads on golf r’s. I daily drive on some EBC yellow pads, and they stop just fine.
Just some advice from a EQT stage 2 2016 Golf R owner haha. Also Facebook marketplace is your best friend. I have saved well over 2 thousand dollars in the past few months. a brand new IE downpipe for 400 bucks, a 1700 dollar forged carbon steering wheel for 500 bucks to name a few.

first mod will be the brakes(fluid, pads and rotors)
Second mod will be lightweight wheels
Third mod will be suspension setup eg. coilovers, anti roll bars, full geometry setup
Then I will push the car to it's limit on track with the stock power, for me there is no point to up the power until you are able to fully handle the stock level.
Afterwards will probably go for intercooler if necessary
    Then will be intake,ECU remap,exhaust/downpipe
    That is from me🤙

Fair warning don't ever buy ecs tuning branded shock mounts. I had a bilstein/h&r SS cup kit installed on my mk5 gti barely over a year ago. Not even 3 months after there was so much play from the cheaply made rear shock mounts the suspension rattled over bumps (this was installed by a professional shop). For the life of me couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from and it took me several months to finally figure it out. Recently had the mounts replaced with OE spec Lemfoerder mounts. Don't ever cheap out with the "assembled by ecs tuning" junk.

  • @_Demonsthenes_
    @_Demonsthenes_ Před 3 lety

Tune (biggest difference over any mod youd really ever do again). I personally opted for EQT for their smooth delivery of power, but you can’t go wrong with APR or IE. Do your research and pick your poison. This includes your TCU tune for any DSG owners.
turbo inlet pipe, this is really what clogs things up, you could get an AFE Filter and one of these and easily out flow all of these 400 dollar intakes. So unless you got a good deal on an intake keep that in mind. Also for you APR fans I’m sorry to tell you their intake is the worst flowing one of them all.
Downpipe, such a huge difference in terms of sound. I opted for a high flow cat to save me some of the drone. But this mod will make your car much louder plus allow you to go to stage 2.
Do88 Intercooler, the stock Intercooler is very restrictive even for stock power numbers. If you’re looking to do canyon runs or track this car. You will see a huge improvement, as the stock Intercooler heat soaks very quickly. (It’s quite thin, if you’ve never seen the difference in size alone you’ll be amazed when you look it up).
Sway Bar, the turn in on these cars isn’t all that great. But for all of you backroad carving maniacs, can have this problem solved and you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg.
    Bonus tips,
An intake will be the easiest thing you ever install. If you are bringing your brakes to get done make sure they know what they are doing. I got my car from a bmw dealership… who didn’t tell me they snapped the rotor set screw off in the assembly, or stripped the other one out so bad you’ll have to use an angle grinder to get it off. Also VW loves their single use bolts so everytime you do your brakes, change a steering wheel, or anything else really you’re gonna need all new bolts.
Take your engine cover off and check for any snapped clips. The bmw dealer snapped the clips holding the coil packs on so you can’t get them off without special tools. No your colored coil packs do not give you more power. (tHeY gIvE 20 pErCeNt MoRe SpArK eNeRgY).
Also look behind the engine at the valve cover seals, they use RTV as a gasket so odds are it’s leaking (also if it is check your cylinder 4 spark plug, it’s probably got oil on it).
Don’t ask me how I know all of this.

Then you can use it on track and get to know the car as you upgrade. I don't know you have car slalom in UK. In america they call it "auto cross".. Upgrade it and use it on track/race it. Upgrade it a little at time and then you will know your car better.

Then an uprated turbo elbow, hose and induction kit. Then a stage one remap followed by lowering springs, bigger rear anti roll bar then better brake pads. IF your going stage two, Intercooler full exhaust and downpipe and finally if you plan to do track days you gonna need better disc, calipers and pad setup IMHO.

@@awesomecars1 that makes more sense. Still, you do need a downpipe if you’re tuning your car, so that should be on the list, maybe combined with the tune.
