- The guys at Mountune let me take their development Golf R out for a drive to test their stage 1 map. In this video we go through how to install it, and what it’s like on the road to drive.

Superb review Gary. I love the functions that can be controlled with the app. Impressive
Thank you Simon. It’s a very nifty little device that’s for sure. I like the valet mode function 👌🏻
Nice video mate. That launch did look impressive!
First gear shocked me 😂
Great video Gary my mate has the golf r & I must say it's put together so well 👍
Thanks Alan! Yes they are a solid car that’s for sure 👌🏻
I watched this video and started researching the mountune golf r tune a few days ago and today I see this exact car on the streets of Chelmsford lol
Haha what are the chances 😁
Hello Gary great vid as usual.
Golf Rs are really good all rounders (fast too!) and the DSG is a great transmission especially when it’s mapped.
I must admit I’d have the Cupra too as I prefer the styling and the drive feels more fun!
Keep up the good work and look forward to the next vid mate. 👍🏻
Thanks for watching Mark, appreciate it 😃
depends what kind of driving you call fun, if wheel spinning and torque steering all over the shop is your idea of fun then the cupra is what you want
No no no.....🤣🤣🤣 I wished I hadn't watched this.....you've got me thinking about modding my Cupra now !! 🤣🤣
Another Top Class Slick Production Gaz 👏 👌
😂 a few extra ponies and some added security won’t hurt will it….🙃
Love the 7.5 mate 👍
They are nice cars to be fair 👌🏻
I have a Golf 7.5R with the mountune stage 1 and the dsg tuning also the airbox filter and turbo hose, got to say its a totally different car from stock.
Shame I wasn’t able to drive a standard one beforehand. This one certainly shifted though 👌🏻
Great video. Be cool to see how your cupra would be with that upgrade.👍🏼👍🏼
Stage 1 on the Cupra would be pretty savage I reckon 😎
@@CarFocused you know you want to lol
Great upload, but I have to say for me personally its AWD for the win. I could never go back to two wheel drive.
Perfect all rounder shame people love nicking them
Depends where u live 😂
@@snapsyphotoboothhire Birmingham lol
Great review and an awesome car, question is would it replace the RS 😄
Haha no it’s in no way a replacement for the RS! I think the only thing that could replace that is a Caterham 😁 It was good driving it though and comparing it to my Cupra!
Even if stock form it's feel really quick off the line. Ive been in much more powerful cars but off the line it's really impressive
I can imagine. This was insane off the line!
More reason why you need that immobiliser map
Nice vlog 👍. I didn't realise montune worked on vws, thought it was just Ford 🤔 interesting!
I got a mk7 manual r, I chose the manual over dsg as I found it more engaging to drive after driving both. I've had it 5 years no complaints still on original clutch. If it ever goes I will probably go stage 2...
Yea I can see the appeal to a manual if you are after a little bit more engagement. The DSG, especially when mapped is lightening fast. It’s great how these engines can take big power relatively easy though 👌🏻
Why only 360hp with or without the engine mods, would it not make more with the mods? Apr & Vudu are producing almost 390hp for the same install? In terms of cost i think it’s very over priced, to me your paying more for the immobiliser, and valet mode etc
Any idea how much this package is mate? Iv a 7.5 R and considering it when my cars out of warranty.
Hi mate the tune with smartflash is £595, the induction system is £390 👍🏻
@@CarFocused that’s a pretty good price. Many thanks for the reply.
@@ThomasJohnson-fr4gp no worries mate! If you do decide to go for it please do mention this video ☺️
@@CarFocused I will absolutely. Really found this video informative, iv watched it twice. That smart flash is a great idea too especially as mine is keyless entry. My only niggling concern is how the clutch might hold up with the extra power gains.
Guess I could call them and ask. I have heard with the dsg though they don’t need an upgraded clutch with a stage 1.
@@ThomasJohnson-fr4gp with DSG you’ll be fine - plus you do have the low / high torque options. I believe it’s the manual cars that have clutch issues when mapping. Thanks for the support mate 😃
Should map your cupra👀🤪
The gearbox map is also mega 👌🏻
This shouldn’t feel stronger than your Cupra. The engines and mapping are exactly the same but the Cupra is lighter so is actually slightly faster.
This Golf R is stage 1 mate 360bhp 👍🏻
The Mk7/7.5 Golf is peak Golf for me - they've really gone downhill with the mk8 and the poor interior
Agreed. They made an almost perfect car, and then for the sake of having to change it with a new model they couldn’t improve on it…
The doors don't even clunk the same 😂
Effortless is the word. And there's no satisfaction without some effort....
It would probably take a track day to actually tussle with it a bit. Imo the Cupra which I have is the perfect balance. This upgrade would work well with it. But, the Golf R is still a great car as an all rounder. I guess if you want a more exciting Golf you buy a Clubsport / TCR….
Fast car. But don’t you think your gran 👵 could drive that car fast & not get into trouble? 😂
Probably! It’s a very easy car to drive quickly. The map would be more exciting on my Cupra that’s for sure. Luckily it’s compatible across the MQB range 😃
