@@courthogan3140Oh ? And do you remember cleaning the Lightweight division and moving up for his very first fight at WW against Leonard ans beating him ? 😊
Do you recall Duran Climbing many weight classes and being crowned at 154lb ? 🤔
Do you remember the Legend, a natural Lighyweight going the distance with Hagler while Roberto was past his prime and way above his prime performances at a much lower weight ? Just asking 😉
I recall Leonard being strategic asking for a larger ring, knowing Duran would not be at his best because he was partying, Ray admitted it himself

      @Pablo
Everything you said about Duran’s achievements is true.
……. However, he still quit though.
Duran is an all time great…… AND he quit in the ring like a diva ….. both these statements are true ….
People like to say modern boxers are divas ….. I’ll tell you one thing : Mayweather would NEVER have FUCKING quit in the ring.

    • @Pablo-ig7tx

@@courthogan3140 Mayweather does not deserves to be mentionned in the same sentence as Roberto Duran though .. Roberto fought at à time with less weight classes, moving up actually meant something yet ; Duran fought the likes of Leonard, Hearns ans Hagler ; Pipino Cuevas, De Jesus etc ..
The fact that Duran moved up to Welter Weight to fight Leonard is already more impressive than anything Floyd has done ; Floyd never fought Pacquiao in 2009 ans the latter was the naturally smaller Man .. Floyd never fought Margarito ( Pacquiao who was even smaller did ) .. when Mayweather fought Cotto, he was already not the same as at the beginning of 2000's... Oscar was past his prime, so was Mosley .. Mayweather chose to fight Maidana instead of Khan back in 2014 ..
So Mayweather is the real diva with a manufactured Career, he took absolutely no risks ; never fought Sergio Martinez when the latter called him out ( Martinez was a small 160lb, he was more of a 154lb ) .. Mayweather never fought Paul Williams or Erislandy Lara ..
Duran quit once, but he quit against a man who was strategic by choosing the size of the ring, fought Duran when he knew very well Roberto had limited time to cut weight, it was not the same Duran and even with a Loss, Roberto beat him coming from the Light Weight division, went the distance with Hagler ; beat up Moore ...
A win over Leonard is more impressive than anything Mayweather ever done before : You talk about Duran quiting but what about him coming from Lightweight and beat up Leonard at 147lb ? What about Duran beating up Moore, what about Duran being past his prime and way above his natural weight going the distance against Hagler ? 🙃 Mayweather never had this Macho aura .. or wins against Maidana, Berto, Guerrero are more impressive ? 😅 ..

A lot of Marvin’s workouts were closed to the public, specifically when he got to Vegas. There is video of some of his workouts in Palm Springs, and he really worked hard in a rhythmic fashion to music…. In March of 1987, a friends dad went to Palm Springs on business (He was an architect) but somehow ended up watching Hagler workout twice over the week he was there. However, from the sparring sessions he told/bet me Ray would beat Marvin….At the time this wasn’t known to the general public. There are still a few people around that watched those sessions that would admit Marvin was slowing down and it showed in the real fight. Duran has some film sparring Nigel Benn before Iran Barkley fight and TR posted him sparring before his 3rd fight with SRL. Both guys are the epitome of champions and the sport misses them to this day.

This was a very entertaining and INTERESTING fight. Hagler was better on the inside while Duran was better in the outside. I thought it would be the other way around. Watch closely at how Duran was able to avoid so many punches. Hagler won in a beautiful fight.

Have so much respect for both of these two fighters. The fight was a close contest. Duran laid back and boxed Hagler off his back foot. Those counters were masterful….Duran just got worn down in the middle rounds and had nothing really left late. Hagler imposed his natural edge in strength and conditioning as the fight entered the championship rounds. Hagler 9-5-1 … AS USUAL MMH wasn’t judged correctly, as Duran was NOT winning this fight after the 13th (like all 3 judges scored).

  • @monochrome17

Duran was a great fighter, but too small too beat Hagler.
F he could have the same power to weight ratio he had as a lightweight, it might have been different.
Marvin was great too. RIP champ.

Hagler was just too big, too good and too hard for Duran. He took everything Duran had and gave him more than he could handle. Hagler was not one for messing with. He always felt disrespected by anyone who challenged him. Especially when they are booing him.
