The younger generation does not remember exactly how good Duran was. As a lightweight he ruled the world.
They can't remember something they've never experienced
Hey, not fair, I'm only 41 and he's in my top 3
im 17 and i know how great duran was alot of young boxing fans love and know the old boxing era was the best boxing era
I'm 19 i grew up watching tapes of the fights and as a kid I remember trying copy my favorite fighters movements on that concrete by myself at home.
Benny, Ike, and Armstrong vs Duran would have been _legendary_ fights
Duran used to look like a character you would see in a Clint Eastwood western. He looked mean, lean and gritty. And never dissapointed
Great description, he defo looked like a bad guy from a Spaghetti Western.......
Everybit as mean and cold as he looked too.
he looks like joe pesci

I love seeing rivalries come full circle like this. Itâs heart warming. I also love how Holyfield & Tyson became unlikely friends. Or Ali & Joe Frazier
I didnt know they fought 3 times
Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier as well..
Barrera and Morales are good friends now, too. Never thought that would happen.
â@@debrabrown6512 Ali and Frazier were friends before they fought. Frazier was even said to help Ali financially during his 3 year suspension, which is why he was so hurt when Ali decided to talk trash to him leading up to their bout.
Ali and and frazier were friends before they fought. Ali practically stabbed him in the back and frazier held a grudge ever since.
I didn't know they became such close friends, so wonderful to see. I was a kid when I saw "all" the fights between the four kings.. There will be nothing like them again. RIP Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
I didnt know they fought 3 times
Roberto is a class act.
Visited and kissed Dejesus when he was dying of AIDS at a time when AIDS wasn't fully understood
I remember that very well...Ive been a fan since I saw him lift the crown from another fighter I admired "Ken Buchanan"....I met Roberto back in 83, he's the real deal, in that he is "genuine" People were and some still ARE quite terrified to touch an AIDS victim..Can you imagine, the very thing we need more than anything "the human touch, to be denied that at such a time....Its incomprehensible, unspeakable and a terrible thing for anyone to experience.Duran flew right to Puerto Rico to see and embrace DeJesus....Thats who he is
@@kevinmurphy4595 Wow
Thomas Pallone Yes, Mr. Pallone, that was the man's finest hour. God bless Roberto Duran and God bless you too.
Met him after a fight in Cleveland, was shaking his hand when he saw a Spanish guy in a wheelchair, he pushed everyone aside and went up to the guy ,hugged him and kissed him on the lips. Roberto is a very great boxer and even greater man.Him and Ali ,my all time favorites
Duran was always the people's champ. Look at him now, still has it going on mentally and physically too.
Sugar Ray Leonard looks like he can fight tomorrow
Deep down I think Duran is thinking the same thing that's why he is not looking at sugar Ray Robinson's directionđ€Łđđđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł

When i came to usa fro. Mex, i was 6, all my friends were black, tbey spoke no spanish, and i spoke no english,, only making signs with hands... it was fun but got along well..
Duran, probably does Speak English, probably not well enough to where he feels comfortable being interviewed in it.
More marriages could succeed like that...
I read the biography of Duran and I learned some interesting tidbits. Duran was trained by Ray Arcel (common knowledge) but the techniques and methods Arcel taught Duran were pre WW1. (Arcel fighter himself fought and trained pre WW1) . The techniques that Arcel knew had begun to disappear as fighters from that era became less and less from that time on. So, in the seventies, Duran was doing things in the ring that "modern" fighters weren't accustomed to. It's been said and noted from Leonard to Barkley that Duran was crafty and hard to hit though he wasn't a conventional box on your toes type of boxer. Boxing and dancing on your toes wasn't a noted style of fighting pre WW1 until Sugar Ray Robinson came around in the 50's. I'm sure you weren't around before 1918 as I wasn't either but there's a pretty good chance that the style of fighting that Duran brought to the ring was very common for that era before the first world war and Duran had it down.
Duran doesn't train fighters; so when he goes that knowledge will be gone forever.
That would be a great loss to boxing
Duran kept coming back and back and back...wow what a relentless fighter he was...they didnât call him hands of stone for nothing. I dearly miss those years when BOXING đ„ kept me awake in the weee hours of the morning in South Africa đżđŠ
sugar ray still look like a young man :)
He is 7 yrs younger than Duran, plus Duran had 120 fights to Rays 40...These are my 2 fave fighters
Amazing he was a boozer, which tears ya looks up. He still looks 30. Good on him.
Remember watching these two gladiators in the ring when I was a kid. Great memories. Sugar was so fast and Roberto was just pure power....
Love seeing two of the greatest to ever do it, together and making money without having to throw a punch again.
Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran, the best latin american boxer ever.
You love to see people that are good at heart and bad to the bone. Two living legends... amazing to watch!
It's hard to watch Roberto Duran get old. In my mind I still see him in his youth. Kicking ass left and right. He was once the best there was.
I was a big fan back in the 70s and 80s. As a lightweight and shortly after, "Duranimal" was one of the most skilled and feared fighters in the lighter weight classes. If you weren't around back then you really couldn't fully appreciate how big of a deal it was when this vicious, destructive villian vacated his lightweight title to take on the ultimate good guy, Sugar Ray. I can't remember a non-heavyweight fight getting so much buildup; their first fight was a pretty big deal. I was stationed overseas at the time and it was all everyone was talking about. Too bad Duran had such a strong affinity for food, women, and drink between fights. He ended up being his own worst enemy.
When Duran was great in the 60s I was young but I remember the 70s and forward Duran didn't run out of energy in the first fight Sugar Ray invites him to the ropes and that is where most of the first fight was a lot of action
Yep, the only fight Duran really lost was at the dinner table, his diet discipline was terrible. He was already starched by his crazy weight loss regime that night Hearns put his lights out in that â84 assassination.
@@Pulsonar Yep. Between the rapid weight loss and the fact that he was fighting above his natural weight class against a younger guy with a huge reach advantage, I wasn't about to put my money on him. But that massacre still surprised me.
@@cliffmcginnis3231 Agreed, Duran was ignorant of Hearns naturally bigger frame, reach and leverage power as much as his underrated excellent Boxing skills. Duran probably would still have lost but not that badly. He let himself down, too drained, confused and disorganised (his coach went AWOL on that too) to get his famous in-fighting wagon rolling.
@Ralph Reilly No, you want to push that nose candy charge on the Brit who beat Duran. Kirkland Laing beat Duran in 1982 and went missing for over 18 months. When he emerged all his money had gone on women, drugs and gambling. Duran made $5-6M in that same period after his loss to Laing. Duran was a holy saint compared to Laing, believe me.
Duran will always be an intelligent savage, just like his fighting style.
Intelligent fighter the head movement and inside boxing skills is unparalleled đ„

GREAT STUFF! TWO TRUE LEGENDS. GLAD THEY ARE FRIENDS AND DOING WELL!đ„đ„đ„
Richard Robinson agree.. like all great champions they fought all comers and took lots of punishment. Along with their extraordinary talent they had great chins and could suffer through the pain.. glad to see no obvious cognitive decline... others not so much
Durans legacy is among the best of all time, he was a truly rare talent to have achieved so much with vices that would have prematurely killed off the careers of other gifted fighters. This god of boxing fought at the highest level between 1967 to early 2000s! He still got all his mental faculties and is a genuinely good and kind man, an exceptional human being.
The GOAT
NEVER thought these two would end up on friendly terms.Thought they were SO far apart as personalities.
Many times age brings maturity! đđżđđż
Duran simply looks scary and you know that he is too. When Mike Tyson idolises someone you kind of know what to expect !
Boxing makes nations become brothers, Friendship pierce through language barriers. This is why boxing makes our hearts skip a heart when we tune into boxing memories .
Both in my top 5.
I've seen literally thousands of boxing matches. There are a number of truly fantastic boxers, the best of the hall of famers if you will. Top 10 Is highly subjective but some have to be there IMO like Robinson, Louis, Ali, Duran, Pep, and Armstrong, IMO.
IMO, P4P:
1. Sugar Ray Robinson welterweight
2. Roberto Duran lightweight
3. Henry Armstrong as a force featherweight to welterweight
4. Ezzard Charles light heavyweight
5. Willie Pep featherweight
6. Joe Louis heavyweight
7. Muhammad Ali heavyweight
8. Sam Langford s a force welterweight to heavyweight
9. Sugar Ray Leonard welterweight
10. Floyd Mayweather JR superfeatherweight
11. Harry Greb welterweight, middleweight, lightheavyweight
12. Benny Leonard lightweight
Duran vs DeJesus 3, best Roberto ever was (prime Duran IMO) Saw it on CBS in 1978 long time ago now
Saw Duran vs Leonard 1 live on the screen in Madision Square Garden. And Leonard vs Bruce Finch (prime Leonard IMO) though his greatest victory was stopping the young counter/champion in welter division Thomas Hearns in 198.1 saw him stop Hearns at The Meadowlands in Jersey in 1981 lol long time ago now
@@nycinstyle great list ,well thought out ,think manny should be in the mix and big George
@@staffh3815 What Pacquiao did in boxing is truly remarkable. He won world titles from flyweight (112 pounds max) to welterweight (147 pounds max). It rivals Henry Armstrong holding 3 world titles simultaneously from 126 pounds to 147 pounds and drawing for the middleweight championship at 160 pounds vs. Ceferino Garcia. In Armstrong's time there was only 1 world champ per division, but still nobody ever went from beating the best around at such a light weight (112 pounds) then move up and beat guys like Delahoya at 147, even win the world championshipnat 147. Unheard of before Pacquiao arrived.
And George Foeman cetainly deserves a very high ranking even p4p. Losing his world championship to Ali and winning it back more than 20 years later. Unbelievable. Foreman crushed top heavywweights like Frazier, Chuvalo and Norton, then he crushed top heavyweights likenCooney, Cooper, and Moorer app. two decades later.
@@nycinstyle I think robinson is overrated
@@Th-jb3vj That is because you dont know boxing. Robinson never lost a fight at welterweight. Had 100 bouts in welter class, World champ for years.
Tall, fast strong inside, murderous puncher, throws every punch in the book. Great movement and use of ajab. Threw punches to the body and head in super fast, hard jarring combinations. Boxed 18 legit world champs when there was 1 champ per division and no jr middleweight division. Boxed 10 hall of famers. His list of competition is one of the best in boxing history.
He was 131 - 1 - 1 world welterweight champ then middleweight champ at one point in career. The loss was to Lamotta. Jake outweighed Ray by 16 pounds at weigh in! Unheard of today. 144 to 160 pounds. It was a decision and he beat the heavier Lamotta every other time, 5 times including stopping the bigger man. He beat Gavilan at welter koed Fullmer at middleweight. Fullmer was never even knocked down in career until and except when Ray flattened him.
All his other losses, except that one to the much heavier Lamotta, came after he retired the first time. Came back for money. P4P welterweight Robinson best ever.
4:47 Hence proved, Roberto is a time traveler. He tried to warn us about Corona but we never listened....
That's not what he meant, but nice try, bruh đđđ

Just face it Carlos ...... Manny lost the fight full stop, Floyd is the TBE and Manny is no where.... Manny is still having to fight whilst Floyd has retired on top....
Two of the four legends hanging out together, so sad that marvelous Marvin Hagler passed away
Now there's two boxing đ„ Legends. Not too often do you see rivals together as friends years later. I remember along time ago, Duran fought someone and after the match was over Sugar Ray Leonard came to his corner greet him afterwards. Thanks to them both for the memories.

Roberto Duran "Hands of Stone" respect!!! đ đ
Sugar Ray looking like he's about to sing on an R&b track after the interview!đ„đ„
Talk about looking like you're submerged in the fountain of youthâđżâđż
Durant looks pretty good himself.!âđżđđżđđż
The reason the "4 Kings" are so highly respected is they all faced each other, in or near their primes. Duran was older and smaller so he was at a disadvantage, however his multi-faceted skills, smarts, and legendary toughness made him a formidable opponent, which explains how he managed to outlast his rivals by many years. The Brawl in Montreal is still the single most competitive fight in history; two legends in their prime who wanted to beat the living sh*t out of each other. What is even MORE remarkable is that both men walked away unscathed and undamaged. That type of war would retire any mere mortal athlete. They'd both go on to enjoy more victories, more championships, and LOTS more money.
I respect the world! Incredible.
Mutual respect often makes for good friendship and as We age I think we understand life is more than. What we once thought.
Ray in incredible physical shape still.

Sugar Ray & Duran are great fighters.

Love both of them!!
Two warriors earned each others respect in the ring, they both deserve ours. Their slugfest in Montreal would have killed the average fighter.

I used to be a big big sugar Ray Leonard fan more than Duran but in later years I seem to be more of a Roberto Duran fan than I am sugar Ray Leonard I love both these guys I love Roberto Duran I think that he's achieved things that other men have not achieved I think Roberto Duran is probably the greatest boxer in history
When is Sugar Ray Leonardâs documentary coming out !
Exactly! They wont do one until he is dead smh
Why would anyone expect any different from a racist system??
4:29 I like how Leonard acknowledges there are great fighters today
Canelo certainly comes to mind
And a couple of years ago Mayweather and Pacquiao were giants. Marquez and Golovkin too (thinking of Welter-Middles)
All great all time fighters. May and Pac could both have a claim to being in the top P4P of all time
Too often we hear sweeping dismissals of 'todays fighters' which of course is nonsense because a generation from now people will say this was a better generation etc
I agree In most cases of sports Iâm biases for example I believe Jordan era was for most competitive than lebron but yes in this case our fighters today and well deserved for respect as greats can could stand the challenge of these two goats
Two real legends
Is very pleasant hearing Sugar Ray speak What a great fighter he was and Roberto too.
It was a really good movie two of the greatest legends in boxing history can't beat that
Duran es un tipazo, genio y figura hasta la sepultura. Grande leyenda!!
My personal opinion is that these two are the greatest of all time.
Duran was amazing. Sugar Ray outsmarted him in fight 2. Two of the legends of boxing.
And in fight 3
To me the 1st contest is the true test, can you adapt within that fight. Answer for RL, no. After 15 rds, rematch shld be easier to figure out and then RD partying hard didnt help his cause.
He didnât outsmart him, Duran was out of shape for the fight & Sugar Ray took advantage of that..
Leonard was a coward! Roberto quit the 2nd fight because he tried to lose too much weight too quickly and his body was hurting. Also, he was getting frustrated because Leonard the coward wouldn't fight him. Leonard was just dancing and prancing around the ring mocking him. Leonard was a coward because he knew he couldn't beat Duran at his best. This is why Leonard wanted a quick rematch and threw a bunch of money in Durans corner. Duran said no, he wasn't ready, and Durans people said yes because of the money. Then, Leonard refused to give Duran the 3rd fight until he thought Duran was past his prime!
love you guys both
Duran, along with Robinson and Greb and Armstrong and Moore and Ezzard Charles greatest ever. Duran was amazing. Blown up LW winning title at MW.
Both of them are hard men. Sugar Ray looks amazing. Let's not forget the other two kings though. Hagler and Hearns. Middleweight is such an exciting class and I was lucky enough to grow up in an era where I saw some great fights between the 4. Do not understand why they did not have a Hispanic American interviewing them instead of an interpreter. It would make for a much better interview
What an embarrassment and insult for these two great boxers to be interviewed by this bimbo!!!
I didnât know that duran is so wise and funny đ. Leonard is found humble as expected. They both look like old veterans of hollywood movies drinking beer in the bar and knocking some amateurs teeth out.đđ

I don't know about that maybe in age but sugar Ray still looks GREAT and as if he can still get in the rang with the best of them and this is ONLY two years ago NEVERTHELESS they are two Titanic.!đđżđđż
TWO LEGENDS !!
Dude went thirty and 0 before he lost a decision he probably should have won. Then rang off forty two more wins straight with knocking out the only guy that beat him at the time erasing that loss and getting a win over sugar ray before his next loss that is insane and he did it in like ten years. 70 some fights in just that span before he got out of his prime thatâs like two careers.
right. The crazy thing is that Leonard didn't really fight Duran in his prime

These "cats" still look pretty good(especiallyRay), I don't know when this was flimed but it couldn't have been to long ago. In my opinion.these two guys are the epitome of ruggedness, and toughness. Neither one of them appears to be experiencing any of the neurological symptoms that sometimes besets boxers when they retire from the squared circle. Boxing is a rough and tumble "sport" and on any given night you could lose your life. So to have been involved in the amount of hard core do or die fights like these two guys have been involved in. Is a testament to their guts and grit. Boxing is a hard ass hustle so my "hat" comes off in reverance for these two seemingly unscathed warriors. And hopefully generational millennials until the end of times will be able to as I did as a young man(17). Watch the three awe-inspiring fights these two participated in ( at least one, and two was). And enjoy them from beginning until number two's controversial climatic end.

The lost to Duran was the best OJT maybe in history. Duran was the most skilled savage in history. His inside pressure and expertise was unparalleled. Although Ray used more movement in the rematch, watch the times they fought on the inside. He clinched better and the uppercuts were effective.

I rooted for Leonard as a kid.I definetly have come to respect Duran over the years!!!
This is a great thing to see! Two old rivals coming together out of friendship and respect. Loved both guys. Mayweather is good, but he plays too many mind games, doesn't deliver much entertainment value, and is ruled by the almighty $. These guys werent so enamored with avoiding the possibility of a blemish on their record. The top fighters of today may be making more, but the fans got more bang for their buck back in the day. Even the undercards were better. There's good fighters and good fights today, but Leonard and Duran were apart of a special era.
you are wrong on your comment. "These guys werent so enamored with avoiding the possibility of a blemish on their record". That's certainly true for duran, but its not true for leonard. It passed around 9 years before leonard would give a rematch to duran, even thought duran was always asking for the rematch. Hagler even retired when Leonard wanted to give him a rematch. Leonard was the original Mayweather. Between 1982 and 1989 Leonard had just 6 fights, not even an average of 1 fight per year.
@@leonardoyi3183 Leonard did bend some things in his favor, like forcing the Duran rematch so soon. I blame Durans management for throwing him under the bus on that one. Let's face it, the cards were stacked in his favor for the Hagler fight as well in '87 (12 round distance, large ring, type of gloves). And Hearns shouldn't have had to wait 8 years for the rematch. That occurred because Hearns looked bad against Kinchen and was presumably shot. Also, I thought it was shitty to invite Hagler to a press in Baltimore in the early 80s supposedly announce a Hagler fight, only to retire. All said and done though, Ray Leonard was great for boxing. He showed a high boxing IQ against a prime 40-0 Benitez, tremendous toughness in that first Duran fight in '80 and against Hearns in '81. I also felt he edged Hagler in '87, and he also defeated a bigger and stronger Lalonde in '88 for two belts. I did think Hearns deserved the decision against Leonard in their '89 rematch, which Leonard has even admitted to.
Nice to see em get along after what they been throug
Leonard, Duran, Hearns were amazing welterweight champions .each one unique in his style and talent.
Two Legends...

I was a kid when they fought the first two times. Every time you thought Duran was done he'd put hands on someone. I didn't think he had any chance against Barkley. That was when I knew I was looking at a living legend. Now that's a true champion!
