I live by the Mexican border and currently learning Spanish, my teacher told my class the story of how a priest rose with a group farmers and peasants and revolted against the Spanish rule. Now that I know the story of how Mexico got its independence the lyrics are so much more powerful. Every night at the stroke of 12 the local radio station plays the anthem, and I can see TJ and it's city lights twinkle. Viva Mexico!

in one part of the complete anthem it says "War, war without truce to the one, that tries to stains the blazons, war, war! the patriotic banners in the waves of blood soak" in other part, it says "Before motherland that your children inert, under the yoke their neck bend, your fields with blood may be watered, their foot may be stamped on blood"
So yeah, it is a pretty violent anthem
