The pain and suffering animals have to go through for halal meat is appalling and has no place in 2024. Cutting the throat of an animal while full conscious is just utter evil.
We seen all the hype on Facebook when these started coming about so we went to Iceland and got some with salad. Wraps, chilli & garlic sauce etc. I was expecting it to be half decent but it was absolutely rank 🤢
I make my own. Get a big pack of beef mince, 800g and mix with 500g of lamb mince. Add dry spices, garlic granules, cumin (lots about a three teaspoons) paprika, black pepper, salt and a couple of teaspoons of cornflour (this helps bind the fat and make it the texture of kebab meat). Work it by hand together, you want to get it really mixed. It helps the texture too getting it really mixed together. Then get some cling film and roll it into a big fat sausage, about a foot long and really thick. Freeze the kebab meat, then when it is solid, I vacuum seal it and cook it sous vide for about three hours. Once cooked I finish with my flamethrower.
No need to stir fry, after sous vide the meat will be cooked all the way through, but it's nice to add a bit of a seared 'crust'. I have a blow torch capable of 2400 degrees, a light flicking of it over the surface is enough. I use a thin blade meat slicer knifeto cut off the surface and then repeat.@@khalidacosta7133
Another 66 and likewise. Remember coming home from school walking past a kebab shop (this was back early 1970s!). Shop closed but the delightful 'sludge on a spindle' was sitting there nicely dripping grease in the baking sun. 🤢

I once went to a chippy in Bognor Butlins years ago. and ordered a large Donor meat and chips . The lady asked if i wanted chilli sauce and i said just a bit . I got it outside and it was covered in hot chilli . My bottom the next morning was like a Wigan Rosette. Take care mate.
I've made my own doner meat from a recipe I got on CZcams. 50% lamb mince, 50% beef mince (high fat stuff), chopped up onion, cumin, coriander powder, breadcrumbs and some salt. Bang it in the blender and roll it up into a massive sausage using cling film, freeze and slice it up when needed. fries up nicely in about 10 minutes
Same here. I hate touching decent fresh meat. No way I’d touch this, let alone eat 1. I did eat similar from Lidl years ago and tasted ok but I never bought them again, because I knew the meat was rank!
Hi Gareth, thanks for another brill review. I could see by the amount of time you were taking to open that bag, that you weren't looking forward to its contents. My god, when you took it out, it looked like thinly sliced wood strips with icing sugar sprayed on.even the rats round them bins are giving it a bodyswerve. Truly horrific. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
Another great review Gareth X I saw the other day Bernard Matthews hamwich in the freezer section of asda but they probably have it in other supermarkets I would love to see a review before trying it x
If you need all the trimmings to make it taste of anything, you may as well get yourself a donner kebab from the takeaway, But I must admit you put a smile on my face as soon as I saw the bag in your hand because I knew what was ahead for you, Had it once filed it in the bin, I just go to the takeaway if ever I fancy one...
40+ years ago, I used to buy Lamb kebabs, from late night snack places, in Moss Side, Manchester. Lamb, salad and a dressing, in a Pita bread. They were lovely. I tried this so called Donar "meat" once, and nearly threw up. It's SH1T.
Iceland does a alright version, though you need salad and chilli sauce to improve the experience. The down side is that you need to eat it slowly as there is a high chance of a bit of bone in there to break a tooth.
Two weeks ago, my goddaughter bought a kebab from a Llanelli takeaway and became so ill the next day, it was at first believed she had some kind of airborne virus, until Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen ascertained it was severe food poisoning. I recall one place in my home town of Burry Port having bluebottles taking a ride on a kebab shop rotisserie like it was a fairground ride at Porthcawl funfair.
Thanks for trying this. It was what I expected when I saw the bag. I can’t eat these supermarket ones after a bad experience. Bought a bag from a popular large store and cooked according to instructions. Instructions said cook in X number of tablespoons of water. Tasted weird when eating but thought little of it until a few hours later I was doubled up on the bathroom floor. Spent two days really ill. Wife was fine and we ate the same except this crap! Never again.
Makes you wonder though. Someone has presented this 'dish' (I use the word lightly) for approval and, presumably, a number of people have said 'yeah, that's really good, well done!'. Perhaps they are all sufferers of tastebud deficiency syndrome?

I'm really jealous of many Heron foods I see about on videos and web pages as there are no stores anywhere near me down in the south west but I can certainly live without this.
I was considering a trip to Germany and Doner Kebabs are one of the things I was recommended to try while there. I found a German Kebab restaurant in Florida that is a bit of a drive, but have it on my list when I am near it again. Those kebabs looks like a product we have in the US and I have been eating since childhood called "Steak-ums" which you can get in a variety of meats, except for lamb.
I make my own and we have it every couple of weeks. I buy 500g of 10% fat Lamb mince and you literally put the spices and things and mix them into the meat then bake in a tray and slice away. This is very tasty and you know exactly what is in it.
@@BRAVOROBINSON Yes, and it's largely from following this channel that I became aware of all the processed shite we were shovelling down our cakeholes.

We have this from time to time. We can’t afford takeaway in our house right now, so £8 for one kebab versus £1.69 for three meals works for us. It’s a once in a while thing but this vlog made us feel like everyone was looking down on us for the one thing we sometimes eat. It’s good if you cook it right, eat it with yummy salads and good sauces. We have never microwaved it.
Hi Gareth, I buy lamb mince and mix it with cumin and other spices, then roast it in a loaf tin...then slice it and make kebabs. Maybe not as cheap but certainly healthier. 👍
Gareth I’ve tried all these frozen kebab meats and all were absolutely Kak to be honest, but Iceland have just brought one out (well first time I’ve seen it) they have Donna meat which is pre-cooked and spot on pal!!! Well worth a try!! Honestly pal you’ll be massively surprised!!!

I always get a regular tray of doner meat with chips with salad, covered in garlic sauce and red salt when I go to the takeaway. If you let it sit for a few minutes before opening after getting home it tastes even better.

That particular delicacy tempted me this morning in Heron's, picked one up then thought no best not and put it back. Went for a bag of Jahan Sheekh Kebabs which were next to them and I've had before and are excellent after a few beers. Disclaimer: never eaten sober.

For some reason the movie Soylent Green with Charlton Heston comes to mind 😮
