  • "Irlande douze points!"
These are the Top 10 Eurovision Songs from Ireland ranked by percentage of total points (including semi finals).
Eurovision has used some wildly different voting systems over the years. Most are easily comparable, some are not quite. So please keep this in mind: Because of the voting system from 1971 to 1973, the entries from these years are better off in percentage terms compared to other years. Also, songs from 1957 to 1970 and 1974 have generally worse percentage values when compared to other years.
    How did I calculate?
I looked for every song how many points it could have made at max in the semi and in the grand final. Then, I put this maximal score in relation to the actual received points in semi and grand final.
When a song didn't participate in the semi (e.g. Big 5) I obviously considered the points from the grand final only.

I am a big fan of the Irish entries. 💚 Liam Reilly, Niamh Kavanagh, Johnny Logan and Paul Harrington & Charlie McGettigan are my Eurovision heroes!
    Many greetings from Germany!

They won a lot during the period 1980 2000

Yeah, and I never understood why, I always thought there were better songs

@@escswiss same here! The only Irish winners that deserved to win were 1970 and 1987 imo, though 1984 should have won. Malta's voting was a little shameful in 1993, there were better songs in 1994 and 1996, and how 1980 and 1992 managed to win is beyond me!

my favorite win from Ireland is 1993.
i’m born 10 years later but I still get flashbacks from my childhood when I listen to that song.

I don't understand why 1994 and 1996 got so much hate. These are beautiful songs sung with a lot of emotion. In my own book, the least deserved Irish victory is Why me. I don't find anything special with this one.

1994 is terrible. But 1996 is so good

1994 get's hate because the public really wanted the Polish entry to win. It also hightened the the feeling in rest of Europe that Ireland and UK won only because they could sing in English so the music industry juries thought those songs were more radio friendly across Europe and voted for them. By that point Ireland had won in 1987, 1992, and 1993, also in 1992 and 1988, 1989 and 1993 UK came second. Then Norway won in 1995 with a song that was mostly instrumental and in 1996 Irealnd again won and in 1997 UK won and Ireland came 2nd. In 1998 Isreal won with a song that had a chorus of names of Divas. By that point the feeling of unfairness had really taken hold in the rest of Europe and the interest for ESC were at an all time low in many countries. The elimination of the language rule in 1999 changed everything.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Kids really was one of the worst winning songs ever.
