Pure perfection no big staging no special effects just two incredibly talented song writers singing a beautiful song, so glad we won with this song it was effortless and deserved the win
Indeed. This was also the year of Riverdance and at the time I remember there being speculation that Ireland only won because of Riverdance but the truth is the voting was already going on (and may have even finished) by the time Riverdance actually came on. This song won on pure merit. A proper songwriter's song in a competition that was supposed to be about songwriting.
2022 and listening to this pure gem. Feeling both beauty and sadness for the moments that won't come back. We all were those rock'n'roll kids in some way...
Absolutely spot on, hit the nail on the head, a different time, and a beauty and times that you just wish would always be. Before life time mortgages and combi boilers and double glazing
Man, I remember my dad listening to this over and over when I was a kid. He was close friends with the Harrington's(mainly Paul's brother Derek). He was so proud of them for winning and used to play this for anyone who'd listen. Great memory. RIP Bob and Derek.
@@robbiealquellamanrobbie Here's another Spaniard! But, let me tell you that two years before (1992) Serafín Zubiri represented Spain 🇪🇸 with the song "Todo esto es la música", and I find his final result really disappointing (he ended 14th with only 37 points), when I think that such a beautiful song deserved to be at least in the Top 10, don't you? But guess what? That year Ireland 🇮🇪 won again!
Anyway, the Ireland's victory of that year (1994) was more than clear (226 points vs. 166 for the 2nd country, Poland 🇵🇱), yet well-deserved, since it brings back the faith in musical 🎶 talent to you, me and I'd say virtually every Eurofan, do you agree?
@@danielhorrachsanchez4710 absolutely. And i believe Ireland won 4 years straight or something like that. But this was just a simple yet beautiful song. Very well written and performed. These days music is over produced, when it used to be a nice beat/guitar riff and good vocals. You're totally spot on because kids will look at those kinds of musicians, who aren't some made up pop star, but rather just an ordinary person with hard work and talent. I just watched a documentary in that guy in Europe(Sweden I believe) that writes almost every hit song. Artists are spotted in malls while they shop, and chosen for how they look and act, with talent not required.
Yeah! Fortunately there is Ireland to still offer real song otherwise the Eurovision contest has become nonsense; I don't even look anymore, it's so scandalous! First of all, this competition should be reserved for European countries, then we should force the singers to sing in their original language and not, as we have already seen, Russians or Swedes and others sing in English. My best memories are Gigliola Cinquetti (Non ho l'heta) or Johnny Logan (What's another year), among others.
Ireland were so fed up that they had won it in 92 and again 93, that they chucked this out in 94 thinking it's got no chance. Nil pous. And they romped home in first place. A Absolutely classic that will undoubtedly stand the test of time. Get in xx
Ah, the good old days when we didn't even want to win.....but won anyway. I'd really love for Ireland to win again, even though RTE don't want the job of hosting the competition. Even just one more win in my lifetime would be great :)
Used to be effortless for us, sent this song because they didnt want to host 3 years in a row and still pulled it out the bag. I think Eurovision has changed too much now though for us to stay competitive.
One of the best songs ever. It has a special meaning for me too. Lost friendships, something very sad! People, do not let you friends slip away, little by little; Cherish them; Stop talking to them on a screen and go visit them and look them in their eyes when you talk to them.
Fuck me you're so right. Unbelievable truth you spoke there. If only the feelings were mutual with old friends to do this. It's all slipped away for me and it's a shame. Such a pity. Life's too short. I commend your comment Sir❤❤

Great song, before euro vision became nonsense, I remember meeting Paul in Shanley's pub in Clonakilty West cork years ago, very down to earth guy, and he sang this song, it was fantastic. Great night had by all that night.👍
My favorite Eurovision song ever!:-) Thank you so much Ireland, you deserved this victory so much, even though it was your 3rd in a row;-) Love from Norway
One of the most beautiful winning songs of the Eurovision contest! After all these years, it still can touch my heart! Beautiful song, besutiful voices, beautiful message! THANK YOU, GUYS!
Not only is this the greatest Eurovision song ever, it is an amazing ballad, one of the best, as beautiful and meaningful as it was all those years ago.
A great song! I could listen to it a hundred times, it is never boring. Thank you for posting this video. Eurovision songs of today do not have this magic anymore....
I've listened to all the Eurovision winners from Lys Assia to 56 to Maneskin in 21 and this is my favourite. I remember watching this live as a 9 year old in 94 and loving it and I still love it today. 🇮🇪
Unfortunatelly nowdays Eurovision is going to be more show than song competition. Tjis irish Eurovision contest song is the best ever. Best regards for singers.
1994 was one of the few vintage Eurovision years with the runner up Edyta Gorniak singing "To nie ja" being good enough to have won it in nine years out of ten. So this Irish song had to be a good one to beat that in my opinion.
Pure perfection no big staging no special effects just two incredibly talented song writers singing a beautiful song, so glad we won with this song it was effortless and deserved the win
We badly need a new song to unite us all again
Might be Ireland's best winning entry of the 90's. There is something pure, honest about it. Authentic. And a beautiful song
The lyrics are incredible
My lovely horse is far superior.
This is the best Eurovision song period it is better than ABBA

True. It's a lovely song. It even holds up as a song outside eurovision.

Timeless. Sitting in a pub in Dublin in 2022 and two girls in their 20s knew all the words when the group playing began singing the song. Brilliant!
Sweden may eventually beat our win score, but no country will ever get a Eurovision hattrick as Ireland did in 1992/93/94.
I love these Irish songs! I dont know IF my country (Sweden) will beat the Living legend
Tethys GD respect to u 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪

If we win again the TV license will go up aging we would bust RTE lol
This comment reminds me of the Father Ted episode where they sent Ted and Dougal so that they'd lose lol
We can't Afford it . We didn't expect to win that year but what a classic still .
Yeah, you can host it one more time, anyway, what's another year?
My favourite Irish Eurovision song. Still love it 25 years later. Overlooked becauce of riverdance. Especially love the authenticity of these guys.
Still listening today... From Italy

Best 'song' with no political or ideology....just a song that speaks to hearts. Excellent! More of this please from Ireland. ❤
I was 15 years old when the song won, three months after I visited Ireland the first time. I love Ireland and I still love this beautiful song! 🥰

I was yours and you were mine 😂😂
I was 10, reminds of my younger years, emotional beautiful song🇮🇪🤟
Where are you from my friend
I'm from Germany. 😊 @Camerasdontlie
I remember '62
I was sixteen and so were you
And we lived next door
On the avenue
Jerry Lee was big and Elvis too
Blue jeans and blue suede shoes
And we never knew
What life held in store
We just wanted to rock 'n' roll forever more
We were the rock 'n' roll kids
Rock 'n' roll was all we did
And listening to those songs on the radio
I was yours and you were mine
That was once upon a time
Now we never seem to rock 'n' roll anymore
Now Jonny's in love with the girl next door
And Mary's down at the record store
They don't wanna be around us no more
Golden oldies but we hardly speak
Too busy running to a different beat
Hard to understand we were once like that
How I wish we could find those rock 'n' roll days again
We were the rock 'n' roll kids
Rock 'n' roll was all we did
And listening to those songs on the radio
I was yours and you were mine
That was once upon a time
Now we never seem to rock 'n' roll anymore
I was yours and you were mine
That was once upon a time
Now we never seem to rock 'n' roll
We just never seem to rock 'n' roll anymore
