I remember when my dad became a full col. (A bird col). Ft. Harrison called. Dad was not thrilled because he was the NOK (notification of next of kin) officer over Christmas and this was the last days of Vietnam. When he answered the phone we all held our breath. He came back from the bed room looking stunned. I fixed him a drink. We asked what was wrong. I was pregnant with my olesr son. My husband was over seas. Everyone was sort of holding n our breath. Afraid that something had happened to my husband. Finally he said i have been promoted to Col. We all were excited. I remember saing clearly my dad is now a chicken col. Thst ment he got and was a full Col..😊😅❤😂 miss him so much.

Hi Jeff! There are ceremonies for all promotions. The higher the rank the fancier they become. It also depends on the person. This is a one day, one time event.
