  • Ever walk into a bike shop and think to yourself, "Every bike looks the same!" Or maybe you're too intimidated to go into a bike shop, because you're overwhelmed by all the choices. We hope that this video will help you sort through some of the basic types of bikes and help you figure out (possibly) which category could be the right one for you. Of course nothing beats actually coming into our shop and test riding the bikes IRL!
    We hope at the end of this video, all of the bikes no longer look the same!

      I can understand avoiding singlespeed and its subgenre, track, because they are usually for enthusiasts who know what they are getting into with a bicycle. Recumbents are not popular with beginners either and are priced out of the target.
      However I believe he should have added in cross/gravel bikes. They make good beginner bikes (the only problem being drop bars for some), and fit in the “if a mountain bike and a road bike had a baby” model he came up with - not sure the car analogy though.
      The only issue is the larger manufacturers haven’t yet introduced entry level bikes in this category yet, they’re still priced and spec’d too high. Looking at direct sakes like BikesDirect, it looks that they should only be $50 higher than an entry road, the added price being for the mechanical discs, something which should be in a fitness hybrid anyways. Overall, much cheaper that a sport hybrid unless that hybrid has an unusable front shock.

    THANK YOU for all of your comments about this topic! Our goal for this video is to provide a starting point for the newbie shopper who knows NOTHING about bikes. We’re just talking adult bikes here - the top 5 categories that are sold in our bike shop located in New York. For those of you that have commented that we didn’t mention singlespeed, recumbents, cruisers, gravel, cyclocross, bmx, touring, yadayada… sounds like you already know a lot more about bikes than what this video is intended to cover. We HOPE to have future videos that dig deeper into all the different types of bikes out there!

      @David Skreiner 1 thing you should know david is that not all bikes have a comfort frame back in the day
      Comfort hybrid frames even back in the day is designed like this: the top tube and down tube are completely parallel and both tubes curved down making it step through, they made it COMFORTABLE
      Well the thing is it is not the common type of bike back then
      They commonly use a more normal bike with a top tube parallel to the ground and a down tube inclined but straight so its tall as a road bike or as small as a bmx and can be uncomfy sometimes so they made a more comfy bike frame which they call it "the granny bike" or "mommy bike"

    Sports shops tend to forget about classic city bikes. The kind that come with everything you need, including dynamo lights, mud guards, rack you can fit panniers to, internal gears for low maintenance and a good old kickstand. These tend to be the most practical for commuters, as you can ride them in the rain, without getting dirt all up your back, and they can carry your stuff.

    I just learned how to ride a bike 2 days ago and am looking to buy a new bike since my learning bike I only bought for $40 off of FB Marketplace. The other videos were long and super technical, like a teacher giving all the unnecessary info. I this video went straight to comparing bikes to cars which makes so much sense! This helped so much as a newbie who has no idea about different kinds of bikes. Now I know I want a Comfort hybrid. Thank you so much for this video!!!

    I have a mountain bike that I use to ride around my village. It is pretty useful as there is a bump in the road every 5 seconds. And you have to be extremly careful around one point because there is a hole that can fit a smaller foot and it isnt nice when you ride on it as it makes you jump quite high 😅

    Now I can just go to a store and ask them to show me the dual sport hybrid instead of awkwardly asking which one I should get and pretending to understand what they’re explaining
    Thanks

      Ok 1) bmx'es aren't for road racing, they're for stunts 2)fatbike is simply just an obese mountain bike and is efficient for ice and snow 3)e-bikes can be any type of bike featured 4)unicycle is not a bike you can use for daily transport 5) downhill is just a really jacked up/buff mtb like mtb=normal athlete, downhill=bodybuilder 6)trial=uhh.. idk

      Tandems arent even close to the most common type of bike, its between mountain bikes and road bikes. Besides he didnt mention alot of groups (fixed gear, single speed, electric, fat, etc.)

    • @subparmonkey9186
      @subparmonkey9186 Před 4 lety

      An intellectual would realize that you could have a tandem roadbike, a tandem mountain bike, an electric tandem fatbike, etc. therefore making them not only the most common but the most versatile.
