Agreed. It appears they are breaking the glass on the last stage of grieving over Neal's passing. I so want to see them as Rush again but only if they are ready for that to happen without Neal. If I could wish that to reality it would be either Greg Bissonte or Mike Portnay. Please God not money hungry Dave Grohl.
It shouldn't go unnoticed that Geddy's voice sounds fucking amazing. It's entirely their call, but I feel like Ged and Alex have another record left in them. Not a Rush record, but a record.
Thank you for posting. My husband and I had made it a tradition for years to go to Massey Hall to see Gordon perform every time he was there. It’s like missing an old friend. This is a good Canadian way to honour a legend.
In about 1978 at 10 years old, I discovered a song called "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" in a table-side jukebox at my family's favorite diner in New Jersey that played 2 songs for a quarter. Even though my mother said it was terribly depressing, it moved me in a way no song had before. I ended up playing it 3 more times before our meal was done. About 2 years later in the same diner jukebox I played a song from a group I'd never heard before called "Spirit of Radio". I was then hooked for life on music that would occupy the next several decades of my life. Of course, my mother hated that too. Thanks to Canada for filling my life with so much great music. RIP Mr. Lightfoot.
You said it. Geddy and Alex keep stating they don't want to tour or do a reunion tour with another drummer, and we get that. But what I don't get is why they just don't do what The Beatles did later with their band; just make records without touring. Simple solution.
@@stewiedarkinvisibleidAs a lifelong Rush fan and musician....playing live is the ultimate satisfaction. I am 58 and sad to say my days of playing live shows again is over simply because I don't have time to find the right band to make it happen.
What a fantastic collaboration & tribute to Gord (RIP)!! Two of my favourite Canadian groups - Rush (minus one, alas - RIP Neil) AND Blue Rodeo!! This made my Friday!! Thanks...
Fantastic! Geddy sounds great here. For years Geddy sang so many high notes, but it eventually was a big strain and didn’t sound as natural. This is perfect for Geddy! Soulful vocals that give me chills. More of this please! Of course Geddy has had an incredible long career so even if he doesn’t make another record again, I will always love the man and appreciate all the great music he’s made and performed for our pleasure.
Amazing. Like a lost Rush song. If there's a good board mix it should be released as a radio single. I think it would be a huge hit at very least in Canada. Thank you for posting.
This poses the question, is this the direction for Alex and Ged… this is exceptional. The whole group is fantastic. Droney and emotive… I am blown away… ala Robert Plant. Hmmm🤘🤘🤘🤘⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Holy Crap! I forgot all about that band. I bought one their albums years ago & loved it. Cool song & cooler of course to see Alex & Geddy having so much fun. Sweet!
I picked up a Blue Rodeo album in the bargain bin about 30 years ago... Took it home and loved it. Being in Pennsylvania at the time they played there. Anyway, I thought it was really good. I think I still have it.
Great to see Alex and Geddy playing again, and a surprise treat for those in attendance. I’m far more a RUSH fan than a Gordon Lightfoot fan, but this piece was a nice listen, notes and lyrics very smooth on the ears. Thank you to the recorder for capturing this.
This is very close to Lightfoot's original recording, which differs quite a bit from a second, more widely known version by Gordon. The whole trippy vibe here comes from that original Lightfoot take. It's great to see Geddy and Alex, they are massive fans of Gordon Lightfoot. Unabashed about it. Lightfoot really informed Geddy's writing. Proving again Mr. Lightfoot's genius did connect with so many different musicians/songwriters and genres. Cute sidebar: Gordon used to call Geddy when Rush was still touring to ask how many shows Rush planned on doing -inevitably the much younger RUSH were outpaced by Gordon, who was in his late 70's. Also, Geddy said one of the biggest honors in his life was when Gordon called him to tell him he'd just seen the RUSH documentary and loved it.
Holy fuck!!! So what's next!?! Do a tune with the Pikes? A one off with Teenage Head? Limited engagement with Max Webster? An album with The Odds? Back-up for Sarah Slean (or Harmer or McLachlan)? All of these sound fucking awesome to me. The boys can do no wrong, and it's great to see them out doing what they do better than anyone.
This sounds like the next progression of Rush. It's electric, but organic, almost tribal. Absolutely enjoyed this song! I'll have to check out the original.
Geddy Lee playing what sounds very much like country and Neil Young and Crazy Horse style rock… and playing it just as he would a RUSH song, which is really cool to see and hear. You can take Geddy Lee out of RUSH… but you will never take the RUSH out of Geddy Lee
... beautiful 🙏 ... anyone who doesn't know? ... this song is on the album Lightfoot! from 1966 ...I'm not an album collector, but I went looking for it
Geddy and Alex on a stage and playing music together makes me very happy! Thank you for posting!!

Geddy and Alex playing music together at Massey is good for my soul.

Don't know what the F word has to do with his voice, but if another record comes from them I will be there...
I agree, he still sounds great.

I love how Geddy looks at Alex with such joy near the end. Just watching him play and smiling.
Shear admiration for a true friend
Yes, that was super special. You could feel the love. So cool.
Working men can’t stop working. 😊
Not a small point...
Proof that Geddy and Alex can do something completely different than Rush, fit into it perfectly, and still sound like themselves.
Great point.
Like many lifelong Rush fans, it is wonderful to get even just this small moment to enjoy their playing.
Thank you for posting. My husband and I had made it a tradition for years to go to Massey Hall to see Gordon perform every time he was there. It’s like missing an old friend. This is a good Canadian way to honour a legend.
Am fortunate enough to have seen Rush as well as Gordon Lightfoot. Absolute beauties!
lol Geddy putting the most bass notes ever into a folk song. Love it.
Haha so true
Blue rodeos guitarist had to fight to get in a small solo. Wow that performance has put a smile on my face.
I’m so glad to see Geddy and Alex performing at this Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Concert!!!😍❤️😍💖😎🎸😎🎶🎶
Blue Rodeo with Alex and Geddy. Only one man could bring that together on stage. GL
Doing it the only way he knows how...with complete humility and competence
Can't get any better than this!! Doing Canada PROUD!!! Nothing but love and respect shining through!! What a tribute....Well done everyone!!

One of my favorite early Lightfoot songs! Thanks Blue Rodeo and Rush for doing this obscure number.
this is so great! This should be their way forward to make music together! Let Rush rest in peace, move on. This style is a perfect fit.

Oh yeah! Gordie forever!
Great rendition of the song. Great to hear Geddy and Alex performing with the band Blue Rodeo. Everyone sounded great.❤️
That outro by Alex was fantastic and mirrored Some of Gordon Lightfoots playing in such a tasteful manner.
Amazing tribute to the Great Gordon Lightfoot!
It is so good to Geddy playing again in public! I could do with another solo album from him. "My Favourite Headache Remedy" ;)
It has that Zeppelin feel
When the levee breaks
Very trippy sound. I love psychedelic music!
I have goose bumps hearing this awesome sound!
This brings me great joy
This sounds really good. Gave me chills by the end when Alex was playing by himself. This song really suits their style.
Funny back on a counterparts concert ged joked about playing a country tune, 30 years later here they are. Wow Time flies and also does crazy shit
Can't help but feel Geddy looking up and smiling towards the end of the song is him looking up to Neil.
Absolutely love the acoustics guys! Excellent !

Geddy on point, Alex, star of the show in true Lightfoot form. Well done.
