  • Video tutorial on how to tie a Reef Knot or can also be known as a Square Knot or Double Knot. It is often used to connect two pieces of rope together but is not necessarily recommended due to the fact it isn't that sable. This knot is distinguished from the Thief Knot by both free ends located on the same side of the knot.

    Thanks for including this with the coloured ends, the lack of jump cuts or obnoxious music or repeatedly telling us it is "so easy", this is a breath of fresh air.

      You’re welcome! The reef knot is much stronger than the thief knot. The thief knot was used my sailors to see if someone tampered with their personal belongings.

    Can you please tell me? Is the reef knot safe to tie when using a prusik loop? Only reason why is because it's streamlined compared to the stopper knots! Any reply appreciated. Cheers from Australia 🙂👍👍👍

    • @laurentwalker3470
      @laurentwalker3470 Před 2 lety +1

      use the figure-eight bend with the prusik loop

    • @vishantp
      @vishantp Před 10 měsíci

      It depends on the load on your knot. For camping needs like hanging tarps/ cloths etc. you can use reef knot. When your life depends on it like in climbing use fisherman knot

    Hi, you mention that it is not very stable, but it appears to be incredibly strong. Why isn't it stable, and what would be a more reliable knot ?

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  Před 6 lety +2

      The issue is with the loose ends is they can catch on something, making the knot fail if they pull away. So in order to make it more reliable, at stopper knots on each side around the standing part. I have actually redone these knot tying videos in better quality over on another channel czcams.com/channels/ryyBamUgn31apLla8MS4SQ.htmlvideos A reef knot with stoppers will be coming out in the weeks to come.

    Square knot and reef knot are same or different ??

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  Před 6 lety +1

      They are the same. The thief knot is a similar variation of the reef knot which really only served the purpose of showing tampering with a belong's bag.
