THIS STORY:
It was 1925 in the sleepy idyllic town of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin when 8-year-old Arthur Schumacher suddenly disappeared. For seven weeks the community and state searched desperately to find the boy. It was then that his body was found just a mile from his house. His clothing was torn and a handkerchief was shoved down his throat.

Buddy was such a darling little boy. The more I learn about the early part of the 20th century, the more I realize it wasn't a pure, "innocent" time as I once believed. I wonder if Buddy's little sister Jeannette, or possibly her children are still alive? Perhaps they are the ones leaving the flowers?
Jeanette had two sons, Buddy's nephews, who are still living.

We must never let our guard down when it comes to protecting our children.
I remember riding the bus to downtown Peoria when I was a kid, with my sisters and cousins ( 60 years ago ). I was 8. And I now have an 8 year old grandson and cannot even imagine him on a bus or a train at that age. Or even let outside to play alone.

My mum is almost 76 and the level of freedom she and her younger siblings had is certainly not what I had and I couldn't fathom it with my own kids. By 6 she was walking a couple of miles to the local park with 2 toddlers in tow and staying out for hours. I'm sure my nanna got a lot of free time and housework done without the kids underfoot but it seems wild to me.
I'm in Milwaukee, WI. Grew up in the 80s, the good old days..
My best friend and I would take the city bus to Southgate mall, and Southridge mall at 12!! Just us. We'd hang out all day outside, meeting people and just having fun..
Now my two youngest are 12 and 13, and I won't let them play off the porch. They have never crossed a street without me, and they pretty much stay in the house most often. Times have changed SO MUCH, and I can't fathom my kids living the free life I was afforded back in the early 80s and on.. I just don't think the end result would be the same, and that is both sad and terrifying..
I don't feel it's safe anywhere, anymore. Crime travels as I always say..
I remember riding a bus with my sister from Wood River, Illinois to Jamestown Mall in Missouri-my sister was 13 & I was 11- different times-50 yrs ago
Just a few days ago in France, a 12 year old school girl name lola was taken by a woman while she was on her way to school .she was sexually assaulted, murdered and her little body was placed in a suitcase by this woman .Then this woman travelled to a hotel with that suitcase as if nothing at all. Thankfully she has been arrested and waiting for her trial . But because she is a woman the kid probably trusted her .We need to teach our kids about safety rules , whether the stranger is a male or a female you don't take any chances, regardless how nice or kind they appear to you
What an awful story. My son is 16 now but when he was younger we always taught him not to trust strangers (male and female.) I was always extremely vigilant, and luckily my son has always been very sensible, so that made it easier for me.
The woman who accused a man surname started with an “A” as well too.

Actually, females are sometimes complicit in sex trafficking. They rope the girls in with trust and then turn them over to men. Sad.
Just horrifying, it can happen anywhere. Just couple of days ago but thankfully with a much better ending a 13 year old girl was kidnapped in Denmark. She was lost for 24 hours but thankfully she was found alive by the police in the house of the kidnapper, information from the public probably helped a lot to find her so fast, it's extremely important to try to find the child as fast as possible.
Thank you for remembering this poor little guy. God only knows what his last moments on earth were like that he had to endure! Because of your tribute to him, he will not be forgotten!
Unsolved murders are always hard, especially those of children. Weird to think this one is now nearly 100 years ago

Great grave sleuthing. It was a time when parents could tell a child "Take the train & we'll see you at supper time. Be safe." The parents weren't being negligent, that's just the way it was then. This is beyond sad, even almost 100 years later. Bless your sweet heart Buddy.

There's an unsolved murder mystery in my city of a little girl who went to Bayview Park (it's behind the Lambton Health Unit) to wait for her dad to get off work, she was waiting on a bridge that is no longer there when a transient strangled her to death and threw her body under the bridge. Her name was Dorothy Ellen Buchanan and her murder has never been solved. Strangely enough, when I first went to the cemetery where my uncle, some of my grandmother's family and my first step-dad are buried, I seen her grave at the corner of the grave yard right at the lights, then not too long ago, it was gone. No longer at the corner but down further.
Makes you wonder how many victims there are before a predator gets caught?

I hear so many people say that things like that didn't happen back then like they do today, that people felt safe to let their kids do what they wanted. They did indeed happen. It's just that today, we hear about them instantly. Back then, word didn't get around like it does today.
I completely agree. I say that all the time. Now, you can hear about things everywhere in the world almost immediately. In those times, it could be weeks or months or even never.

I wonder if the Handkerchief was still around, they could pull DNA off of it and find DNA from a lineage family member today and trace it back to someone from that time period?🤔
We could only hope . I would even go as far as , getting buddy and seeing if any DNA can be recovered. Never know ... just maybe something can still be tested . Just maybe . Poor Sweet lil guy 😔💔

Awe, my heart goes out to that poor lite guy. The way he died was horrible. His parents must have went through hell going through all of that. Never knowing who killed him. I pray he and his parents are resting in peace.🙏❤

There is nothing really to be traumatized about. Life is harsh. Even if we manage to make it through life without getting taken out early by all manner of crimes, accidents, and illnesses along the way, we will be withering away slowly on a nursing home bed in the end, minds slowly turning into mush and forgetting the details of our own identities and lives, while getting pumped up with ever increasing doses of painkillers. Just shrug your shoulders and say "oh well" when dealing with things beyond your control.

There has always been evil in the world even though it wasn't as bad as it is now. How incredibly sad for this little boys parents to never know who or why. I hope they have now all been reunited and will face an eternity of being together with no more death.

So sad that the boys didn’t know how to speak up. I’m sure they were scared to death, not wanting to get into trouble. If they had said some thing when they had gotten home the parents would have started looking a lot sooner. RIP Buddy

In an about 1925 Carl Panzram was running amuck in various states. This sounds like Carl Panzram's MO. Also Wisconsin abolished the death penalty back in 1830 when it was still a territory.
I used to reside in Mineral Point in which the last successful hanging took place. The reason I bring up Carl Panzram is because he would hop freight trains from town to town. And he was originally from Grand Rapids, Minnesota along the old Milwaukee Road Railway. And they only knew Panzram's where abouts due to his arrests and I am sure he went through Wisconsin at some point in time. Also on that list I would suspect Albert Fish.

I'd almost bet the killers were long gone the time the police got involved. I also bet if they had researched there were probably other victims along the train route. It's sad that they were unable to solve his case. It was very hard to do back then. I'm most sorry for little Buddy who suffered immensely before he died so young. RIP Buddy. 😢💔🕊️

I know Wauwatosa quite well. Recall a tragedy next door to there in Elm Grove in the 1990s when a couple of children died in a rainstorm.
Huge credit to you for the sensitive gentle way that you handle these stories. If there is an after life then, I hope the victims find peace there. I hope one day that the giving of a dna sample is compulsory,that way many criminals may be caught.

This is so terribly heartbreaking. Reminds me of the boy in the box case. They never found out who killed that little boy either. How could any person do this to a child is really shocking. Could they nowadays do any DNA test from the handkerchief? So many unanswered questions about this case

I rewatched this vlog. It is so sad that his family never saw any justice for their sweet little child's tragic murder. Whoever did this crime had to have done other crimes. His name coming up over the years when other kids were killed showed that the police were considering if it was the same killer. Looks like they didn't have evidence to link the crimes. It is sad we only now have DNA analysis capabilities. Too many years too late to solve this crime especially since his little body wasn't discovered soon enough to preserve any DNA.
There are far too many monsters out there filled with demons that make them do horrible things.

It's so sad. Buddy's dad lost Buddy (1925) and his dad (1926) the following year. And a random peak to my interest is that Buddy's mom passed the year my brother was born and Buddy's dad died the year I was born. Odd and interesting to me.

Nowadays at Mayfair Mall in Milwaukee kids can’t even be without an adult past 9 or 10 pm due to a crime element.
Interesting who done it...I would hope that the police investigation included the mushroom hunter who found the body...Was he the killer, who returned to the scene of the crime and supposedly became a "good guy" by "finding" the body???
