Friday lunchtime video with Slade. Good job
Thank you, my friend!
Another thing I skipped building my beetle I'm getting the feeling I need to start a new project
That would be great! If you start something new, please start filming! I miss seeing you on video.
One trick for preventing rust on new or old cars is to run oil products or ATF down into doors, rockers, and doglegs, pretty much anywhere you can get it in! Spray it into the frame too! Do that at least once a year. It works by displacing water that gets into folded joints in the sheet metal therefore preventing further rust!
You can buy a sprayer kit with attachments that reach into the frame and other inaccessible places.
Heard that too with ATF at the bottom of doors and panels.
Yes, sir! I remember my father doing that when I was young. When he would do an oil change, he seemed to brush it onto his truck frame. It’s a little foggy now, but that’s something like he was doing.
@@SladesVWBeetle Father knows best 😉
@@vayabroder729 Yes for sure!!
Glad we will be getting lots more videos…. I’d love to see a door soundproofing video…this was a great one ☝️
Thank you so much, my friend! I truly appreciate you being here.
Im getting ready to start doing my 65. I try to stock up on some of these materials in advance so I don't get hung up trying to buy all this stuff at one time I would like to see the door sound deadening also so I can see what kind of materials I need to get on the Shelf thank you very much for your videos they are outstanding. They really help alot
Old toothbrush handle works great to reform the trim
Thank you! I always appreciate extra tips!
Thanks Slade for the video !! Glad you stuck with the two tone can't wait to see it finished have a great weak end.
Thank you my friend! I can’t wait till the bodywork is done. That’s not my favorite thing. Lol. Have an amazing weekend my friend.
Great video! The ospho is good stuff for sure. Can’t wait to get home and start on my bug, you are giving me the itch 🤣
Well, that’s good news, Rich! Thank you for being here, my friend, and thank you for taking the time to leave a comment.
Great video! I learned a lot about rust management that will be useful on other body parts.
Thank you and thanks for leaving a comment!!
I just love your videos! I learn very valuable stuff AND they are calming and cheer me up! My mom is spiraling down into the advanced stages of dementia. So getting calmed and cheered up is a great thing! Thank you.
Thank you so much, my dear friend. Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. It is a very difficult time when we have to watch our parents decline, it’s extremely stressful. I remember dealing with my father, but I would do it all over again.
Yes, getting calmed down and cheered up is such a beautiful thing in life. And I’m glad I am able to help in some small way. There’s a lot of stress in life, but it’s nice to have an outlet. I’m so happy to be a tiny bit of that for you. Thanks for being you, my friend!
@@SladesVWBeetle Thanks Slade!
Hey bud. For cleaning headliner Ive found nothing better than Motorcraft pro carpet and headliner cleaner. Its a heavy foam so I normally for overhead stuff spray it on the rags
Oh damn, thank you! I truly appreciate that. I’ll Google it and see where I can find it. I always like trying new products.
Wahoo another good video.
Thank you so much my friend. I hope you’re having a great day.
Wish I had known about the spray before I payed $80 for POR 15. They sell gallon jugs of the spray for very inexpensive at my hardware. Great video. Thanks
Nice Job. I'll like to see you change the hinge pins as well.
The hinge pins are perfect in these doors. But if I come across someone that needs them I’ll do it for free just to film it.
Great stuff, much thanks! When using the Ospho, I spray like you're showing, but I have found that if you get too much on, and make little pools/puddles, it doesn't want to dry and gets gummy, to fix that, after I spray, I'll take a throw away shop towel and soak up the extra, the towel becomes wet with ospho quickly so you're not wiping the metal completely dry, just getting the extra so it has a uniform coating. Did my doors like you and I'm very happy with the results.
Thank you so much! I appreciate extra tips! I’m the same guy that said a little goes along way and then I sprayed it heavy. 🤦🏼♂️
I always think I need everything on super thick lol thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment my friend.
Enjoyed the video and content thanks for showing us all that you do great job!!!
Thank you so much that was very nice of you! I hope you have an amazing weekend.
I want to see the headliner video
OK, I’ll definitely film doing it. I didn’t know if anyone would be interested.
@@SladesVWBeetle I would, Mine is a lot like yours, with a couple of small tears but I reckon I can fix those easily. Iv'e watched a headliner install video. No thanks, my back could not cope with that.
nice job.
Thank you so much, Jim!
Checking it out now
Thank you, sir!
Thanks for the video. great job!
Thank you my friend!!
Great demo on the Ospho. I just ordered some from Amazon. Wasnt sure if it needed to be washed off after treatment. Some do but in this case, not required. Thank you !
Thanks my friend! I really like the stuff, it works quite well, we have to do everything we can to protect that metal.
Ospho rust treatment is good stuff, to bad i can't get hold on it here in Europe. all sold out for the moment.
a lot off work to do in the future, but i know you will nail it.
great work my friend.
Thank you so much my friend. I truly cherish your comments.
I really mean that. I wish there was a way I could get that stuff to you because I would just send it.
I’m definitely not a body man, so some folks may look and shake their head. Lol but it’s just a daily driver when it’s done. Now if I had your split window, I would definitely be taking my time and doing things in a better way lol can’t wait to see you on video again my friend Sure miss it.
@@SladesVWBeetle the videos will be back on CZcams, first I have to deal with all the rules by being operated. And get rid of the attachment that is looking until I do something wrong. I will all explain it later, I guess around September.
@VWBEETLEOVAL1955 that is good news. Cannot wait to watch you. Soon as you’re ready please let me know. I want to definitely give a big shout out welcoming you back.
@@SladesVWBeetle thank you very much, I really mean it and appreciate it big time👍👍
This was awesome!! Thank you so much for posting this!! I would love to see a video on your painting the door. I am in the same spot that you are in the video. I just have to use the Ospho and fix the rust at the bottom of my door. Hopefully you will show how you fixed the hole that had rusted through....I have a couple of them in my door. They are very small though. I am painting my VW with the Rustoleum 2x Gloss "Apple Red". Thank you for this!!! I have been waiting on this to come out! You are the Bomb!
That’s awesome. I hope the video is very helpful. Seems we are in the same situation. I’m using the 2X colonial red so basically the same thing. Then I will use the 2K clear a little bit later. Which means I will have to wet sand the colonial red if I don’t do it the same day. But of course I’ll be showing that.
The Ospho is a huge help.
I should bust the welder out and fix those holes that way.
I’ll probably come from behind the hole with some mesh and JB weld. And then on the outside where you will see it, I will use some bondo metal filler. Just to save myself a little aggravation.
@@SladesVWBeetle Thank you!! Please show how you do this. I haven't ever tried welding nor do I have the equipment to do this...I wish I could!! I can't wait for your next video on this then. You are the BEST! I'm going to give this a shot!
Just wondering if you’re still a believer in Rust Bullet? It seems like it would be good in the bottom of the door because it’s thick and would seal any pinholes, and offer a little soundproofing. I’ve got a couple of doors that are in a little worse shape I’m about to tackle.
I actually love that stuff! But I did run out. Or I would be putting it in the bottom of the door for sure!
I have done so much on that car with rust bullet, and of course, my buddy used it on his frame years ago so I watched him as he was the guinea pig for it. It works really good.
Good! I plan on using it on my doors. I do like Ospho I those hard to get at places. Good video by the way, thanks
Have you used body filler over the rust bullet? If so, does it need to be scuffed up?
@@garyingeorgia5555 thank you for the kind comment! That rust bullet is nice, especially for those hard to get areas like you said, we can spray it down inside of channels.
Yes. Most body fillers, fiberglass and automotive primers may be applied directly over Rust Bullet. but I would scuff the area slightly first, it will leave a glassy finish. So you want to scuff it with like 800 grit lightly, then apply the body filler
Me thinks that little hinge is a door stop.
Yes, sir, my friend, the During filming. Sometimes my brain will literally go blank. 🤦🏼♂️😂😂
If you were local, I'll give you a deal on some rust free doors.
I would so appreciate it, wish I was closer to you. I get tired of dealing with rust lol.
I would say jump around all you can man and get that car on the road. Everyone wants to see you driving it I worry that the vht die would fill the perforated holes up and make it look smooth. I would suggest just clean it and go with it
Thank you, I definitely am trying my best between juggling work on the house, and life, and then the car.
I can’t wait to drive it, and get Heather’s 77 in the garage. Heather is trying to check into some thing for her channel if she gets back on. I don’t know if she will. She was going to do an old car on her channel possibly.
You know, I was looking at all the original little tiny holes. And was wondering the same thing. But I thought maybe I was overthinking it. I’ll see how nice and clean it comes out. You have a valid point my friend. Thank you so much for being here.
👍✌️🤙
Thank you!
