I definitely wouldn't give it a 6 but I'd call it a 7 or maybe 8, there are a couple tracks that just don't gel for me (especially Asha the First) and it could stand to be trimmed some because it doesn't vary enough musically to justify the long 1h26m runtime in my opinion. It can be pretty fatiguing to listen to all the way through in one shot.

It's a great song with some really mediocre bars that distract from the master class going on in the instrumental.
Honestly, I thought this album was absolutely amazing and a 9/10, but after watching this I now think it’s merely decent enough at a 6/10. Thanks, Melon.

Potential album of the year
I like how everyone is saying “you’re wrong” or “6 is too low” yet they don’t explain why. Like ignore the score and explain what exactly you disagree with in the review.
Because a number is all that matters to them and not the actuall opinions given in the video. Just a regular day of Fantano fans being shallow
me personally bro i just like the way this album made me feel
its not like the best jazz album technically or objectively but it was a fun listen. i wont say fantano is wrong because all music is subjective, but i do disagree with his thoughts here

Ok I disagree with him but the best argument I’m going to make is to tell people to listen to the album themselves. Then ask them if they would seriously give that a 6/10. Easiest argument

I think it’s more the shock when fantano seems to have the vision of an album go over his head, then it’s like why do we even give him credibility as a reviewer?
@@jasondecember673 wdym, he's just a guy on the internet that talks about his opinions on music. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don't. Not every project connects with everyone, and that's fine. It's not like his scores mean anything like... objective, about the music.

I agree with Melon here - I liked the lead-up tracks, and some but not all of what I heard so far of the rest of the album.
Though I'd give it more than a 6, if I cared about number rankings. I guess I agree with much of what Fantano said, except my overall impression is more favorable than his.

Yeah, I dunno if I agree with this review. I can see where a lot of the points are coming from, but to my ears, the "inconsistencies" are what made the album. Each track felt like it had different movements and arcs that kept me engaged through the entire experience. I agree with a decent amount of Fantano reviews but this one was a miss for me.

All a matter of taste y'all. I found this one easier to listen to than Epic, maybe the length or the tone is more palatable.

Idk man, I think the switch up of styles amongst these tracks is great for keeping things fresh. Kamasi really ran his sound into the ground with his last LP and incorporating the different features and sounds into this album proved some fantastic versatility. I didn't want another Epic, and I'm glad he took a risk here

Thank god, as a person that regularly listens to jazz I'm glad there is some validation that this is an average album. I'd personally give it a 5 but Fantano's take is very fair

Asha the first #1 song of all time
I completely disagree with Anthony about Computer Love, the song feels almost like it's eulogizing Roger as DJ Battlecat was a friend of his and this cover has a very somber yet powerful tone to it. I feel like with that thought process in mind the song feels a lot more coherent for the style of the album by treating the vocals as a texture, not something contributing to The narrative of the song.
I agree its a 6ish.. I haven't purchased anything after The Epic .. but still looking forward to his next lp.

ya, i like it more than you, but i don't really see what all the fuss is about. I'm not the biggest smooth jazz/ cool jazz guy tho and there's def some of that on here. It just has this self-awareness and insistence that i've found on the recent jazz stuff i've checked out. I was very disappointed by this album. I love Shibuboshi and Prologue gave me a lot of that plus a touch of headhunters.

I really wanted to like this one, but I didn’t really care for it much. The disappointment of this one has got me craving some good jazz. I guess it’s time to finally listen to The Epic.

Idk man… I’m sure there’s some bad Jazz records out there… not everything about the album is perfect…a “6” doesn’t mean terrible, but this is a pretty exceptional album Kamasi’s made. Obviously The Epic is his magnum opus..this is still great tho.

i've found the best way for me to watch theneedledrop is to wait for a review, listen to the album and then watch because it's like we listened to different albums. dont think it deserves a 10 or even a a 9, but 6 is too low
His 2017 6 track EP Harmony of difference is incredible but often gets missed because its not an album.
