Sound engineers, your work does not go unappreciated.
shout out to u guys, indeed
@@batone7 I swear to God KEXP has the best sound engineers. Not a single live performance has disappointed me so far.
Idk how they balanced her vocals against the thundering horn section right next to her....
@@mrmagongus in eat monitors work wonders
late to the party but this is soo true, I clearly hear each individual note, everyone of the drum hits... on every KEXP show!!!
Kamasi is THE bridge between classic jazz purists and a new generation--hungry for innovative, original jazz.
There's something raw about his music that makes me think of Mingus, high energy in your face!
Nope. He's "a" bridge, not "THE" bridge. There are multiple bridges, connective tissues, voices, souls. Widen your radar and learn more who's out there. Also, he's not even the shit. David S. Ware and Pharoah Sanders and Yusef Lateef could outplay him in a second, and could out-explore him too.
Too limited
This is not about only Jazz, this is about Black Culture.
To be honest, Kamasi is the. dot.
"How did you start music?"
"Basically, I was born one day."
HOLYYYYYY
Kamasi is definitely reintroducing Jazz to a new generation.
...and to an old one too;-)
Tito Brozzi What next level? Everything he's doing has been done already...
Yes, I just don't understand how he's taking the whole genre "into the next level". Eric Dolphy, Alice and John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, Pharoah Sanders, and Cecil Taylor did take it to another level, now kamasi washington? I just don't see how, that's all
Nor everybody dogmatic...listen to music everywhere I feel quality.... indie as well as jazz or classical stuff or prog rock or some chart songs....
Am not too deep into jazz, you certainly know better. Used to listen to jazzrock many years ago, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and such. Every now and then some new stuff, recently discovered Donny McCaslin and his band - but admit, also by media;-)
Oh my god this bass player. Incredibly well done. How am I just discovering this? Oh yeah I spend all my time listening to metal and not enough time with Jazz. That’s about to change.
If you like the new age fusion stuff I would check out people like Thundercat, Shuhb Saran, Sungazer, Vulfpeck, and Yussef Dayes Trio just to name a few.
@@patrickmcmahon1110 ha! In the year since I posted this comment I basically went all the way down that rabbit hole of every one of those artists. They’re all incredible.
Organizer: "So what's the set list?" Kamasi: "Just one 40 minute song"
Crazy performance.
Not sure if this would be a likely collab, but if Kamasi ever did a live show with BADBADNOTGOOD that shit would be straight up bonkers.
Damn, you just blew up my mind. Now I need to see that

I want Kamasi Washington to score all Movies for all time.
I love the interview process during these sessions. It goes to show the majority of musicians are the shyest, softest spoken, most humble people alive. Even in their purest setting, they're no more than walking bags of anxiety like the rest of us. Yet again there is a Mac Demarco.
Saw these guys last night in São Paulo, Brasil. It was something coming from another planet. I couldn't even process it, had to let it go and just get lost in the music. There's nothing better than that.
24 de Março ele vai tocar aqui em Curitiba. Estou ansioso pra o show, espero que esteja tão incrível quanto.
That's the idea behind music I guess. great for you!
Love when you can tell a band ain't phoning it in, even for a radio station promo. Especially the keyboardist lol he's having a real blast! These guys are sick.
I'm an old punk and jazz head and gotta say when i saw him play it was more lit than most punk shows i see nowadays. Surprisingly live crowd that night and they put on a hella ill show of course.
This ain't a radio station promo, this is KEXP.
Saw them last night in Detroit & They Totally Slayed It!
The dominance displayed by Miles Mosley is legendary....the guy is a rock in a sea of modern jazz currents flowing across the stage!
This is insanely beautiful. Kamasi is a gem!
Getting into Kamasi's music is like entering in a very, very dense space. It seems like every instrument creates a dense landscape by itself. Amazing performance and amazing songs.
In fing credible! Amazing work by all in this group. So glad I find them through Andre 3000 feature! Amazing.
This would be freaking crazy to see live
literally brought me to tears
went to play this in the background. It's impossible. Draws in all my attention.
Mind... Blown!
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen
This guys are going hard on the instruments
I can´t deal radio host´s face!!! Pure extasis. And Kamasi and the band, sooo good.
The rythm changes is one of the most beautiful song i've ever heard, there's a sence of pure magic on it. Thank you Kamasi, you guys are amazing. Words can not describe it
I saw them play in Italy last summer. What a blast, gotta love Kamasi
When? god,I live in Italy and I knew nothing
Ad agosto scorso sono venuti a suonare vicino a Padova :)
+theLatinloser ed io che sono andato fino a Vienna!!!
paolo tavi Kamasi suona questo 16 maggio a Milano al Santeria Social Club
Literally almost every KEXP host seems like theyre on drugs hahahha
I don't trust anyone in radio or print journalism that doesn't drink heavily and probably indulge in some more interesting stuff.
@@SausageFingers420 I'm guessing you're a big Thompson fan then
Don’t you think all of the host have the exact look in there eye
thank you. this whole time im like wtf is with this guy LOL
Only the second comment. I'm vindicated.
Saw them in Newcastle last month. Blew me away!
Larry is so epically awkward on camera and I love it
man the dude is such an awkward DJ it's cringe-worthy sometimes too lol
He seems so removed from the musicians so often. He's literally admitted to just reading off the sheets on camera. They need to use Djs that are at least reasonably interested in the musicians they are interviewing.
if you really think he wasn't interested in the musicians you get it wrong i guess. at least i always feel like he personally is curious about these artists he got on the show, the only thing might be that he doesn't feel so comfortable standing in front of a camera and i can totally understand that lol
In this he seems so super pumped that he's just trying to control his energy and get the words out.
larryyyy larryyyy larrryyyy
Outstanding!
I can't believe this music. Feeling elevated. Incredible.
Thank you KEXP. Really awesome and inspiring to see and hear such great musicians play.
Kamasi, one of the greatest jazz musicians at this time.
Thanx to Kexp for the show!
Jumpbranch nah
@@tonywallens217 Ehm, yes. Very much
It has reminded me of my great time in New Orleans...
It is like returning the jazz era. That's awesome !
Been a minute since hearing such raw great music......brings me back to days of Doug and Jean Carn on Revelation.
The Heir to Coltrain and Parker. All praise and Glory King.
That's a 10. Loved these guys and I really like his respect for the other musicians. Some artists just remember to tell the other guys names in the end, like it was just an obligation.
Superb musicians and engaging performance! Two thumbs up!
Can't wait to see them in Saint Louis.
I had this studio host's same shirt when I was 3 in the early 90s.. Good to see that style is eternal!
I went to his concert last week in São Paulo (Brasil). Amazing!!
Re Run is pure beauty!!
Wonderful performance. It stirs my imagination and lets my mind wander.
Blown away all over again.
Amazing music, wish the interview was as good.
Every time I watch this gaggle of geniuses play I just lose it. Shredding to the absolute most magnificent degree. Incredible.
Kamasi Washington the father of a new genre on jazz signature. Taking it to another cosmic level.
I'm so excited to hear this whole set
Phenomenal! I cried it so good.
This guy... the new King of Jazz as far as I'm concerned. Can't get enough of it!
Freaking awnsome! Great sax great composer and dreamer! Love Kamasi
Amazing performance and insightful interview questions… “The Rhythm Changes” my favorite , an empowering declaration of now, I’m here !
would've killed to be in the gallery that day!! WOW.
I Love it... Thank You Very Much for the Venue and Artists.... Beautiful experience
This is so amazing.
NEED MORE LIKE THIS.
this sounds so much different than their album release party, especially the rhythm changes. i love both, this one a bit more though. that bass line just rips through and carries an atmosphere
that trombone is beautiful!
they are so good. just saw them in detroit. miles mosley super magical :0
First discovered Kumasi via Kendrick Lamar...just love his vibe...thanks KEXP‼🎶
oh my god this is amazing!
YESSS!
They all look like their having a blast except the bass player. He has this 1000 yard stare going on at the end there. Love these guys, the songs sound so different every time I hear them.
Wicked bassist though. I saw these guys last year and he killed it. They played one of his songs, 'Abraham', and he was having a whale of a time. Find a video of them performing 'Abraham' and tell me he isn't enjoying himself.
Also he looks like Drake which is pretty funny.
Linus Martin yeah, Miles Mosley
Seems like they always do these KEXP shows early in the morning. I look like that too early in the morning.
Been listening to Miles' own debut ,"Uprising", since last Friday when it came out. Same band. Although it's not actually a jazz album, not as much as Kamasi's "Epic" is, anyway, but more of a Stevie Wonder vein. It's still pretty good and he's a helluva singer also. Would like to see this band doing the Uprising songs full set live.
I listened to "Uprising" and liked it but wasn't all that enthused. I went to the album-release concert in LA and was blown away. If you get the opportunity, see Miles and co. live.
Jesus christ I can't wait to see them perform.
1:20 felt it in depths of my soul when that bass came in.
saw these guys live this summer in Padua.
Still having a good time...
ah! y'all posted this on my birthday, surely a sign of greatness :)
Really dug the interview! Good job! Obviously the music is fantastic
Rhythm Changes makes feel so god damn good
Miss him
At the hotel cafe and the piano bar. Brilliant
so excited to see him this weekend in Austin
wow...amazing group and compositions
I saw them this past weekend in Minneapolis. Holy smokes, they are great live!
Love it!
Wonderful!
What a moment!
Briliaaant! Greatings from brazil s2
amazing!
Oh god, Kamasi just save my life.
Its Amazing 🇧🇷 Que somzeira!!!
I jam THIS recording through my system.
Love how the vocals are more pronounced, and the levels are all around great!
This is crazy good.
Excellent!
This might be too heavy for y'all, but this is what greatness looks/sounds like
Actually it's horrible.
@@davidgloberman3098 🤣🤣🤣
pure musical beauty
more than beautiful
Very nice. Thanks.
Saw Kamasi Washington with vulfpeck and knower at red rocks 2015 ish? Great show
So dope!
reminds me of coltrane, zappa, charles mingus, fela kuti
rob slover just thinking the same. Awesome noise.
It doesn’t remind me of them
KW n Team always blows me away
AMAZING!!!!!!!! 😍🔝🇲🇽
Just great!!!!
So sick!!!!
Obsessed!
Oh yeah! superb!
ˇOhh wow this so amazing!!!!
This and several other sessions should be released on a nice CD set.. Hopefully it wil happen some day. Amazing stuff.
Saw them at Disney Hall in LA in November. They debuted all new music. In the same vein as the Epic but different, a little more ethereal. But it was FANTASTIC =)
I was at that concert also. Hoping they put some of that stuff out for the public!
the first tune is so Fela kuti with a US jazz tinge! i love it
