- For my daughter's birthday, I wanted to make a custom frame for one of her paintings. Making custom frames is a straightforward, yet rewarding process because it can be displayed all the time as part of your home's decor. In this video, I'll show you how I measured to fit the painting, came up with a simple, yet elegant frame design, and made it from scratch. I made the frame out of cherry wood, with walnut for the splines to add some extra strength to the miters and some visual flair.
I used my shop made miter sled for perfect miters. See how I made the sled here: • How to Make Perfect Mi...
To cut the slots for the splines, I used my shop made spline jig. See how I made the spline jig here: • Making a Keepsake Box ...
Tools and material used:
3/4 inch cherry lumber
Vintage Craftsman table saw
Dewalt sliding miter saw
Hand plane
Chisel
Frame clamp
Titebond II Glue

We will admit the frame is incredible and as always, we enjoy watching you work with such precision. HOWEVER, I am sorry but but the star of this video is your daughters incredible painting. It is mesmerizing. Be sure to tell her we think she did a marvelous job!!!
Thank you Richard and Jennifer! I'm happy to have my work take a back seat to my daughter's! I will definitely pass along the very nice message!
That's some birthday prezzie , I think your daughter will cherish that frame and picture forever , great artistry by daughter and Dad
Thank you very much, Mick! I'm really proud of this one because it showcases my daughter's amazing painting.
can't make up my mind what's more impressive the beautiful frame or that amazing paint! your daughter really has amazing talent!
Thank you so much! I might be biased, but I think the painting is more impressive!
Hello my friend.
It is a very beautiful design for your girl. You have created a very special and beautiful framework. Your daughter is happy. congratulations. you did a good job See you. big greetings. stay healthy and happy.
Thank you, sir! We are really happy with this one!
A beautiful frame for a beautiful painting and a perfect commentary guys 😊 I don't wait for designs to get shot down anymore. The secret is, to make everything as a surprise and enjoy the building process, then ignore any disappointment 😁 ॐ
Haha! Thank you, Chris! That's excellent advice too!
A great picture deserves a great frame! The picture was awesome the way she used the colors for highlights and shadows. The frame is a classic beautiful wood frame that brings your eyes right to the eye of the dog. I love your helper pointing out (throwing you under the bus) how you TRY to cover your tracks (mistakes). Can't wait to see it in person!
Great job Brent!
Haha! Thank you, Bob! It’s one of my favorite paintings that she has done. And her younger sister makes an excellent shop buddy and narrator, even though she really enjoys having fun at my expense!
Very talented family.Love the design of the frame, almost like a 3D effect.Very nice job. It looks like your daughter is going to be an artist. She did a fantastic job on that painting. I know she is proud of both the painting and the frame. There is a lot of talent in your family.

There's so much to love about this video. Beautiful frame - love the joints. The painting is awesome too - love the colors! AND I still absolutely love how you involve your daughter. She is no doubt learning SO much working with you and doing the voiceover. Love, love, love!
Thank you so much, JZ! I think this is one of the best comments I’ve received on a video! I do really love how this project and video highlights two of my daughters very nicely. I have plans to continue this trend and eventually make it a full family affair!

Great artwork and frame, the commentary was great too, I mean your daughters commentary....😂
Haha! Thanks, Harki! I definitely agree that she does some great commentary!
Looks great Brent! I always seem to get some burning with cherry wood as well!
Thanks, Grant! I definitely did need to clean the blade, though. The burning was a bit excessive!
Beautiful painting! Very talented!!!! 🎨 the Cherry looks great with it too. 🖼 👏🏻
Ps. the commentary is winning! 🎙
@@KirstiePervinDavies Thank you very much! This one was fun because it showcases my older daughter's beautiful painting and my middle daughter's commentary :)
Well done! A matte board and some glass to block UV light are some other options to consider when framing.
Thank you, Rich! You’re absolutely right that that there are other things to consider as well. We considered exactly what you mentioned, but my wife preferred the look of it without glass or matting. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful frame mate. Definitely going to watch your video that includes the spline jig, as I still haven’t got round to making one yet.
Thank you! Hopefully you enjoy the vid with the spline jig too. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of mine already! Thanks for watching!
