  • In this scrap wood project, I'll show how I made a beautiful wooden mallet from scratch. I’ve got some scrap oak from my grandfather’s workshop and ash offcuts from a friend’s project I helped cut up. The oak will fit perfectly for the head and the ash will work great as the handle. I'll show you how I cleaned up the scrap wood on the table saw, then cut the pieces and glued it all up.
    Check out how the finish and artistic flair turned out: • Fun With Pyrography //...

    The mallet is really cool.It bet it will last for years. Mr Mountain Man was really excited with the one you made him.I noticed you were less generous with the glue on the second one you made.ha. Can't always get those paper towels as fast as you need.Great job on them both.

      Haha! Some lessons are best learned the hard way. Such as there is such a thing as too much glue. Thanks for watching, Rita!

      Thank you! It wasn’t super difficult to make and didn’t really take all that long. I’d say make it happen!

    Nice mallet, I like the idea of using sand instead of bb pellets

    • @WhiteLabWorkshop
      @WhiteLabWorkshop  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks! I got the idea for sand from Steve Ramsey. It added weight but not a lot. How well do the BB pellets work?

      @BKRcustommotorbikes Před 4 lety +1

      @@WhiteLabWorkshop I'm not sure I've never made a mallet haha. But you can't buy bb pellets here in Aus so I thought it was a good idea

    Nice looking mallet! I have the same problem that you do, I often get inspired to make something cool when I have a long to do list! lol

    Very nice! The sand is a genius idea too! I've used mallets in the past with shot in the head to reduce handle vibration. Looking good! 👍

    • @WhiteLabWorkshop
      @WhiteLabWorkshop  Před 4 lety

      Thanks! I might have to try shot next time. The sand was ok, but didn’t make a big difference. Since I decided to keep this one for display, I’ll get to do another sometime in the future.

    Great mallet, but I have to admit, the commentary was hilarious and true. "dont ask every 6 months if we are going to get to the project!" LMAO! Looking forward to seeing the next video on the mallet and to see how well it works in action!

    • @WhiteLabWorkshop
      @WhiteLabWorkshop  Před 4 lety

      Poor Man's DIY Haha! I had fun with this one. However, I did learn that the handle may be prone to cracking because of the direction of the grain of the piece I used. So I’ll use it for decoration and make a new one for real use at some point. It sure does look nice with some finish on it, though! You can see for yourself: czcams.com/video/ZlSz5QUkogo/video.html

    I must have missed the memo on the mallet trend! I'll get right on it. I liked your simple technique to making the angled cuts to allow for the shims.

    • @WhiteLabWorkshop
      @WhiteLabWorkshop  Před 4 lety

      The cool thing about mallets is that they are timeless! The angled cut was a bit of wing it, but it worked out well. Just be careful not to angle too much.

      Haha, thanks! I’m pretty used to getting left high and dry sometimes when I need help, so when they do help it’s just a bonus! Making the mallet was great fun. I definitely recommend making time for it!
