For me this is easily my favorite instructional piece you've done.
I absolutely loved the section on "getting the shots".
When I'm on a day trip or doing an activity, I really really struggle with "when to get my Go Pro out", and start filming. So that when I get back to the computer I have more than just a random selection of incoherent garbage. Clips that don't make sense or connect to one another.
I want to record days out and family activities so they look better than Ol' Uncle Arthur's home movies from the 80's. Your Mini Movies are really something to aspire too.
I love your enthusiasm and imagination.
Many thanks for this one. Cheers Jake.
Mike
I've watched numerous videos about "how to improve your travel videos" and in my opinion, this one is the best one. Thanks dude, good job!

Glad you like them Kev
muy bueno Jake, felicitaciones
This video wasso inspiring
Thanks so much Jake
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love watching your videos, mainly because you are a fellow Aussie, but also because you have incredible content that is beautifully shot and put together. I especially like this video that shows a little of the Behind The Scenes in how some of your content was created and to get the most out of a short time at a location. Planning is the essence here as you said. I’m looking forward to getting to travel again soon and capture better travel videos/content that I am happy to share with family and friends, and that I know will engage them in our trip rather than put them to sleep 😴 😁👍
Thanks bruu, appreciate you sharing the stoke ;)

You give such savage advice on these videos….. thanks my man 😃
Amazing Video with good informations thanks✌🏼
Thanks for the kind words
Light is definitely my favorite aspect to experiment with, hehe. Some really interesting tips there Jake 🙏 You are so right about the story, that's a point i really have to work on...I usually improvise and most of the times i get home and realize i am missing certain shots or that the story doesn't really add up 😅
If you haven't already, check out this video i made about 30 second storytelling - it might give you some ideas on how you can create stories in post production (after you've filmed your shots) czcams.com/video/sDGNGPuIajU/video.html
Man, what can I say. I always learn so much from your channel
Stoked to hear that :)

My dream go pro 🙏
Hi Jake. I’m a big fan of yours and I’m using a Gopro 10 right now and I’m going back to make travel vlogs. I’m wondering if you have the clip where to use or what time to use different views?
Thank you so much
Thank you for the tips! 🙂👍
I also did a lot of filming when I was in Santorini and Crete (10/2019) and then I didn't know where and how to start editing the hundreds of videos I made. A year later I am still editing some.🙂 A little over a week ago I made a short video of snorkeling on the beaches of Falasarna and Elafonisi. My family and I love to walk there. 😊
Greetings from Portugal.
Glad it was helpful!
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah Thanks Jake!
I can relate to this video because I also make youtube travel videos with my GoPro and drone. This vid has great tips 🤙🏼
Im using Go Pro 10 currently. It was a cumbersome to change to zoom in, because the touch screen isnt sensitive
You are great!!
arigato!! thank you for the kind words
Thanks. Such a inspiration🎥 Even if I got the Sony A7 iii, many of my movies are made with the GoPro ⛷ So thanks for lots of great tips.
🤘🏽🤘🏽
dig this video but i would really like a video of how you setup your go pro hero 9 settings. Kind of like what you did for goprohero8 black. Is this possible?
Always Like your Videos
I appreciate that :)
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah learn lot from your Videos, actually when i bought gopro since i was watching your videos. Love you always you are rocking
hi, first thanks for this video. Regarding Nr. 3, is there any good reason to film at a lower frame rate than 120 frames? Isn't it best to just film everything with at least 120 frames to be flexible in post-processing? Best regards
Great tips! I also want to take it to another level. My travel vids are quite personal but I should make it more appealing.
I tend to shoot everything in 1080p 120 fps simply because im a bit lazy I guess. Its an easy setting but im going to try and use 4K more.
Definitely try and shoot more 4K - if you're uploading to youtube it will also display your content much better as CZcams prefers 4K or 2.7K uploads
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah oh I do export it to 4K 30fps to ensure optimal compression. I even use a gimbal so I should utilise it.
Very nice
Thanks yo
hi love your videos some reason anymore than 30fps won't play on my TV, if I record in 60fps or 120fps for my CZcams will they play on my TV then ?
Good one. I learned time warp idea from you. N learning more. Thank you. ❤ from Nagaland, india
Awesome - time-warp 3.0 tap to realtime ;) it's a great feature
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah I'm using gopro 8
I am planning for long road trips from Toronto to Perce, Quebec which is approximately 16-17 hours driving. So, can you tell me how record long road trip video on action camera, size of SD card should I purchase?
Amazing! It just inspired me to star CZcams here in my small city in somewhere of Mexico.
You can do it!
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah thanks for answering, a few days a go I bought a GoPro hero 8 whit the commitment of starting a CZcams channel. I’ve been following you since you got 5k subs.
I’ve been learning a lot from your content, thank you.
Supa good video, what software are you using for editing? Thx
Adobe Premiere Pro. Free trial here: geni.us/ZQacXy
Does anyone know if the GoPro, GoPro 10 for example, is good for film making as in a short movie? I don’t think the GoPro has any aperture settings so I was wondering how I can make films using the GoPro (not travel vlogs). I love the quality of the video produced by the camera, I’m just curious if anyone has made a feature film with this kind of camera?
Did you had a rest, or only were taking a video? I like cycling videos myself, and even got GP10, but not going loose a moment of my cycling.
Nice Hat!
Thanks Anya :)
Jake - great stuff, Thank you! I struggle with "story" before I go on a trip to places I've never been. Simply don't know what the story is or will be...any advice for creative story planning ahead of time?
Even when you’re going somewhere you’ve never been you can still set yourself a goal of getting a variety of shots - i normally have a shot list which lists: 5 high quality hyperlapse - 5 time lapse - 10 different POV shots - 10 different selfie stick shots - 10 establishing drone shots - you can have these goals before the trip and if you miss some of them, the video will just be shorter 🤷🏽♂️ (or use storyblocks or artgrid - stock footage websites - to fill in the shots you missed)
Also watch this video for tips of writing a story in post production: czcams.com/video/sDGNGPuIajU/video.html
If you upload videos to CZcams at 1080p or 1440p, is there any reason much to record in super high resolution all the time like 4k or 5k? or Should I juststick to everything in like 2.7k and 60-120 FPS instead?
Big fan sir ❤️❤️ from bangladesh
The swoosh noise gets a bit tiresome in just about every transition, but there is some decent tips in here.
Which cam was used for this video?
Tnx i don't have a lot of money to buy gopro9 but i will buy gopro7 in future and make some travel video
GoPro 7 is just as good!
Where's the link to the Greece Story Video? I want to see it 🤗
czcams.com/video/yksnYcqALUE/video.html
I always forget about the story ops.
something to start with for your next video :)
I did not watch the video yet, but firstly i would like to say that this Jacaru hat is beautiful (I have the same 🤣🤠). Now i can watch the video ...
the best hats
its osm
Hey, could you tell which type of DRONE you use? Thankx
Mavic Pro 2 - it's awesome, here's what other gear I use when travelling: czcams.com/video/CUiX6031JUw/video.html
Hey jake why dont you use directly dji mavic pro camera??
The reason for this was because gopro don’t accept video submissions to their awards platform if they’re not 100% filmed with gopro. Hence why we did this for any other purposes we would just use the Mavic camera
What program do you recommend for GoPro editing movie
Premiere pro
Ok... Done...
what editing software do you use ? Thanks
Adobe premiere pro 💫
Wow 😲 I'm wondering how many batteries you used to have that many clips. 2?? Or 3?? If you want to shoot continuously for hours.. you may have mentioned it before but I forgot 😁
Hey Rahmat, on this shoot we took 2 x hero9 black cameras (one camera each) & each camera had a spare battery - so 4 batteries in total
