This video talks about US and Russian military power in a head to head comparison. What would it take for US to actually invade Russian mainland? Could the US reach Ukraine, for example, if no other country interfered or helped? How would the real world geography and climate shape such a war?

I will be bold enough to say there will never be a war that is comparable to ww2 in a very long time due to nuclear weapons
The shear fact that nukes can level entire nations keeps major powers from fighting each other
Hell if it wasn’t for the atomic bombs dropped on Japan
The Soviets would have probably try to take all of Europe after they reached Berlin
Either that or another war on the scale of ww3 probably would have already happened

    What ?
NATO is meant to be a defense pact.
If the US decides to attack Russia, NATO will sit on it's hands and do nothing.
NATO becomes involved, when Russia would attack the US, attack one = attack all.
The premises of the vid is that Russia takes half of Ukrain, well Ukrain is not part of NATO, NATO does not automatically become involved.
So stating " that is what NATO is for" is just not correct.

    • @kennywang1707

NATO is a "defensive pact," but realistically speaking I don't think there's any way NATO (or the EU) would sit on their hands if Russia invades Eastern Ukraine. Remember that NATO intervened in the Kosovo War and the Bosnian War. NATO might claim to be a purely defensive pact, but they would react in this case. Russia knows this obviously, so they aren't invading half of Ukraine right now.

@@damir7768 The Soviets could not have withstood the full weight of the German war machine by themselves. German military power was diluted by fighting in North Africa and in western Europe. A concentration of Germany’s resources entirely devoted defeating the Soviets would have won the war in the east.
German armored / mobile units often surrounded Red Armies but couldn’t prevent their escape due to a lack of men to seal the huge battlefield areas. More manpower for the Wehrmacht would have solved this problem.
The early success of Barbarossa caused a food shortage in the USSR.
The Soviets also lacked the production capacity to manufacture trucks they desperately needed. Without trucks they couldn’t move artillery.
The Allies of the USSR made up the shortages the Soviets were experiencing
The US and the United Kingdom shipped massive amounts of ammo, food, communications equipment and trucks to the Soviets.
Below is an answer I’m recycling that touched on this subject.
Germany would have won WW2 if Britain accepted Hitler’s generous peace terms. Peace with the British would have allowed Hitler to become the master of Europe. The British upper class supported Hitler and certain politicians felt it wasn’t worth “Dying for Danzig”. Churchill resisted this heavy pressure.
A settlement would have granted Hitler a free hand in the East.
He would have won his war against the Soviets due to the elimination of major problems before Barbarossa commenced. Problems solved by a Anglo / German peace include:
No Western Front would exist to drain men, arms, fuel and industrial production including for the coastal fortifications and guns. 1,900,000 Wehrmacht served on the Western Front at “peak deployment ”. These troops would have been released to the Eastern Front.
Total German losses on the western front between 1944-1945: 263,000 - 655,000 killed - 400,000 wounded - 4,209,840 captured. 5,000,000 additional German troops would have faced the Soviets. It’s unlikely the Soviets could withstand the weigh of this massive deployment.
]The entire Wehrmacht plus their equipment and weapons would have been deployed in Operation Barbarossa. This would include the 1,977 planes lost in the Battle of Britain.
The British would have supplied oil and fuel as part of the settlement. The oil fields of Romania would have escaped Allied bombing. Germany’s chronic oil shortage would have been eased or solved.
No lend Lease war material would have been shipped to Stalin. The USSR’s shortage of ammo, communication equipment, trucks, food and weapons wouldn’t have been overcome. The US supplied 375,000 trucks alone. Total trucks including from Britain: 450,000.
With Britain out of the war Hitler would not have declared war on the US as an inducement for Japan to enter the war. Hitler stated “the Americans are in this war already attacking our ships and suppling our enemies”. With the U.K at peace President Roosevelt would not have had reason to involve America in another European war defending the USSR.
The war in North Africa would not have occurred. The Germans lost hundreds of thousands of men, 2,500 tanks, 8,000 aircraft, 70,000 trucks and 2,400,000 tons of supplies plus millions of tons of fuel. More German troops were captured in North Africa than at Stalingrad.
The full weight of the American economy and manpower (130,000,000 population) would not have been deployed against Germany. This means no US bombers striking Germany military production and synthetic fuel plants.
Based on the numbers above the Soviets could not win WW2 alone.

Who tf wouldve guessed their own ally would be crazy, or maybe stupid enough to attack them suddenly like that.
USSR power were also spreaded at that time because of its worry against japan near manchuria. In short, German almost got moscow simply because they betrayed their unsuspecting ally, the unprepared USSR. When USSR finally got hold of the situation, they literally beat the german ass in every battle straight up to Berlin, and USSR havent even begun their war industralization yet.
On the other hand, german have been preparing since Hitler is in power, and they also got alot of tanks, planes, and supply because of France's surrender.
If it were 1 on 1 since the beginning, or USSR had expected war between each other, placed their army in the western part of the country. The german wouldnt even get near Moscow in the first place.

This is an automated system located all over the country (Russia), consisting of a huge number of sensors and computers, which constantly analyzes many parameters offline.
Checks seismic activity across the country and other indicators.
And if someone organizes a massive attack with the use of nuclear weapons on the territory of Russia, then even if all the people are destroyed, this system will autonomously give the command for a massive retaliatory strike.
And from all the surviving underground mines, submarines, ships, etc., nuclear missiles will be fired.
That is why it is called the "Dead Hand" according to the NATO classification, because even if all the people were killed, the retaliatory strike would still destroy all the enemies.
