People should learn to read horses before they start talking about how my horse loves me and you know nothing about this horse cause you have only had it for about 5 months. It takes a long while before you get trust from a horse. Only feeding and giving it treats doesn't mean that they are in love with you. It makes me cringe when I hear people go on like this. People can be so stupid around animals.

Nothing else was working, the horse was forced to escalate the situation to send the message. It's no different than when you're petting a cat, and the cat hisses... if you keep petting that cat and not getting away from it, it's going to bite your ass, and you deserved it. After that bite, I bet you'd learn your lesson and next time a cat hisses you'll leave it alone.
That adult got the message too after that kick, leave the horse alone. Neither that kid or adult will ever annoy a horse again.

Walking up to ANY animal, domestic, wild, known or strange without knowing that species basic 101 behaviors is BEGGING a negative consequence. That horse was incredibly "gentle" in its lesson. If stupid people would stop thinking they can just walk up to animals any ol kind of way. If only STUPID people would stop trying to interact with animals they know NOTHING about! Hell a chicken can give a human a run for their money if one doesn't know basics of a chicken (rooster). Worse, try a goose, a pig can kill, a small goat can be ornery and give one heck of a butt.
Sigh. I don't know Rick, I'm thinking let the stupid be killed. I know we will lose a lot of our beloved animals, but at least the stupid would be gone and animals thereafter can live in peace. This brings back memories of when I was 8 or 9 and my dad and I were visiting family friends on their farm. They a buckskin gelding named Dusty who we were always told to be careful around cause he was very dominant. Well, one day myself and the friends two children who were a little younger than myself were hanging out by the pasture gate. Dusty was there and we were petting his side. I was closest to his head with my back turned away from him, so I didn't see his signs. "All of a sudden" he bit me. Hard. I ran wailing in the the house. Guess what the response from the adults was.
"YOU WERE TOLD TO BE CAREFUL AROUND THAT HORSE!!!"
I'm thankful I was the one who got bit. I really would have caught heck if it had happened to the younger children (who I was "looking after"). I would have really caught it.
I thought he was being mean, cause I was being nice and petting very nicely. I didn't hate him forever and still loved being around horses, I just never took my eye's off his head when he was around. Didn't realized what exactly was going on till I watched a video Rick did back in CA were Mr. T and Buddy were grooming each other in pasture and then Mr. T bit Buddy.

Yeah ... If you don't know the horse language ... the horses are hard teachers. If you think Rick is hard with his words already ... then I hope you never get a lesson from a horse.
Someone told me a girl didn't got the clue and still pushed the horse to it's limit every time every day and you could see the frustration in the horse. They told her: "Stop pushing the horse too much. You get seriously hurt. The horse already gives away clues and just stop or something happens." She laught it off and what happens. The horse went not crazy but berserk after another 1 week with her. The horse bit her 2 times like ... really bad ... and as he bit her the horse THROW her through the air 2 meters high and I mean 2 FUCKING METERS! She wasn't very slim btw ... she had some weight. If the doctor arrives and pukes because of the horse bite ... you know it was a bad bite. The horse doesn't have teeth like we does. The teeth is like a press ... a very strong press and when he bites you with all his might in the biceps muscle so strong that the fat in the muscle splashes out of it because it got pressed that hard ... then you know you messed up.
Not the horse messed up but that human ... when others tell you already who are daily around horses and tell you you should take a look at your horse and how it behaves ... just do it! What Rick does is like what the horse does in this video. That horse in that video is friendly telling her: "Pls move away. I am uncomfortable so give me some space." And where do I know that ... SHE LIVES.
So please listen to Rick in that video and learn something. It might save your lives one day.

When I was younger me and my mum often used to stop and see the semi-wild pony herds in Dartmoor (UK). Some were more wild than others. I loved watching them, especially the young foals, and if they tolerated it seeing if any would let me say hi. One time, my mum was admiring the 'beautiful mane' of a stallion so much she failed to see his head up, ears pinned etc, pony got fed up of giving clues and kicked her right in the chest, she had a hoof shaped bruise for a week. I also remember one protective mum biting our dog square on the bum for getting too friendly with her baby. Loved those ponies, they taught me a lot, it's a shame the herds are in decline now.

Your explanation makes total sense that he didn't see it as, okay I've knocked her down, so now she knows; but rather that she was STILL in his space and because she was, she apparently didn't get the message he'd sent her with the throwdown. Your videos are so valuable. I've only had a few interactions with horses and the ONLY thing I was ever told was to not get behind them. Period, that was the end of my 'lesson' about horses.
