    1) The fake pony (may the good Lord rest his little furry soul) is the pony that little baby in your other video should have been playing with.
    2) To those just starting out, what a great example of what you DO NOT want to see your horse doing when you're around. If you do, you'd better get to your computer stat and watch a few more Mr. Gore videos on dominance, being higher, moving feet, etc. because your horse has figured you out and is fixing to teach you a lesson, and you're going to have what Mr. Gore calls, "A significant emotional learning event".
    3) What a beautiful horse. Glad the guy filming sounded like he had a sense of humor. Mean man. Probably used his kids toy. :)

    Notice just how many warnings the grey horse gave. That's why HORSES OR PEOPLE ONLY GET KICKED IF THEY CHOOSE TO. A horse will most often give lots and lots of warnings before kicking or biting. Stupid humans that get kicked or bit don't know how to read the warning signs.

Poor horse he's gonna be really confused now, he did everything he could to get that Lil pony toy to back down, so he wouldn't have to hurt it ... And now that he finally kicked it, the pony is going to be laying in one spot not moving, so he's probably going to think he killed it. Poor guy he's so confused by that thing. What I wonder, is that why some horses imprinted, raised in isolation or bottle fed are learning abnormal herd behavior? Like the pony, not understanding clear warnings in natural horse language. I think those horses are frequently the ones getting picked on the most when exposed to a true horse herd environment. Sad for those guys. Unfortunately I don't know if some ever 'get it'. By the way...LMAO (but you could have laughed a little longer with me when the furry friend bit the dust) You scored again Rick thanks

    I got myself kicked once, however he wasn't aiming at me specifically, one of his paddock mates was running around and he was getting really excited. He wasn't in defense mode but I was standing near him and he did a little buck and landed it on my knee, he calmed down pretty fast after that though. He didnt actually see where I was and I wasn't being self aware ether, too distracted by his paddock mate. Anyway he is a lovely pony, he is so calm and so chilled out, I dont think I have met any horse/pony as quiet and gentle as him, he didnt exactly have the best past and we started out a bit rocky as he hated jumping due to a previous accident. Now he is happy enough to jump, but I think thats is only because he trusts me that both him and me arnt gonna get hurt. (His previous owner had a bad fall while jumping and broke a bone, he stopped jumping after that)

    There's this small grey pony at the horse sanctuary where I volunteer whose terrified of people (poor boy had live fireworks thrown at him in the past) and I am wondering what me, and others at the farm, could do to gain his trust. I'm not expecting any miracles, that's impossible, but I want to make him more comfortable around people. I have been walking up to him with my hand out, and when he comes over and touches me with his nose I move away from him which seems to be helping. But I have no idea if that is a good idea. What would you suggest? I'm open to suggestions.

      @debbiepeter112 Před 7 lety +4

      Rumble Delta I say well done for actually asking for advice. You would be surprised how much help and advice you can get by posting a question like this. Sounds as though you are doing the right thing. I think it is a case of building trust and him wanting to be with you which means that you back off and even stand with your back to him after you get his attention. That method worked for me when I got my pony after his previous owner used to beat him with a shovel. Basically you want him to want to be with you and ask for your attention. Hope that makes sense

    Thanks for dissecting this video Rick. This video isn't as bad as some, and I believe that it's healthier to help an animal move through fear, but I don't understand people thinking a scared animal is funny. I get that this gave the horse an opportunity to win. Just as a crocodile is given mental stimulation by chasing keepers (and lawn mowers!) out of their enclosure. And you are so right that ignorance in a human can lead to bad things for a horse.

Made me think about the horse's perspective and how they see things. This mare would not allow anyone near her "baby" (She was a retired brood mare). In the video it stated that they did take the toy away and she freaked out as if they took her foal away so they had to return the toy to calm her down.

    Hello Rick, great video again. Your website thinklikeahorse.org is not available. It looks like it is suspended. Is that because I'm in Europe? I really like your website. Hope it is a minor issue. Keep up the good work. Greetings from The Netherlands

    wow that looks like a barb! Probably an andalusian, you rarely see horses like that. Such raw barb/iberian traits. Oldest, very hard to find anymore in horses even in spanish bloodlines and african barbs. People tried to completely wipe out berber traits, and well it almost worked, but these horses were strong, solid, and sturdy horses, thanks to them we have quarter horses best traits, all from the true forgotten barb, people once thought as ugly and bad conformation. Just opposite.

    Dude I don't know if you will read this but it's not like I have a choice it is what it is but I am taking a small 8 year old Arabian stud and 5 yr old mare on to cdt in new Mexico soon . The vet and 2 old cowboys told me it wouldn't do any good to cut him to old and very high strung. We have a good working relationship. We're going to Montana via cdt . Any advice on trail routines would be appreciated. Don't say don't do it I'm doing it.

      bullshit, cut him yesterday, he will still keep some stallion behavior but he will calm down and will not get mares pregnant.
