Growing forests rather than trees should be the goal here. We know by now that forests are the best sinks of carbon on earth (apart from naturally occurring bogs and marshes, but thats a different solution). If people and governments are serious about this "drawdown", then they would simply assign a protected area of land per region of their country/backyards, and grow a small, diverse and natural forest there.
