- Florida A&M University's Board of Trustees held a special meeting today to evaluate the $237 million donation from the Issac Batterson 7th Family Trust.
After skepticism followed the announcement, the university has since paused Gregory Gerami's gift.
The board voted to have an independent third party conduct an investigation into how the donation, which raised so many red flags, got as far as it did.
Before the meeting, FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson made this statement.

Dr. Larry "Lawrence(?)" Robinson. Who acts as a lone wolf president at FAMU and gets to keep his job? His actions could have ruined FAMU. The fact that he is still employed is appalling and amazing. His flat affect and appearance suggest a robot reading a teleprompter and NOT A SINCERE APOLOGY, NOR ANY REMORSE LET ALONE REGRET. SO SAD.
I wish I could say I was surprised that the VP resigned and not the President. Anyone who has dealt with administration at HBCUs can guess how it went down: the VP was told to fall on her sword or risk being blackballed from working at any HBCU ever again. The heavy hitters in these admin positions can be very vindictive.

The problem at FAMU lies in the nepotism and cronyism within the leadership. FAMU has a history of keeping only familiar faces around, even if they are incompetent. Whenever an outsider attempts to bring about positive change, they are driven away. FAMU needs a complete leadership overhaul, bringing in competent individuals to manage the administration. Many of the old guards must step down to make way for those who know what they are doing. Until then, nothing is going to change.
Larry is a good guy, but he has no control over the old guards at the school. It seems Larry cares more about being liked and avoids making tough decisions when it comes to dealing with incompetence. This is exactly how the current situation arose, and they are likely just going to blame one person and move on. They are just going to use the third party to buy time.
As for the board, they're just going to help cover this up.
Another example of individuals being hired who are not qualified for the job while highly qualified individuals are being looked over. This situation is not a mistake it is simply due to incompetency.
The graduating students of FAMU have to wear pie on their face due to their President's incompetence. Best for the president to resign or push to removal.

Not only HBCU but other institutions of higher learning needs to be careful who we select as their commencement speakers such as comedians singers football jocks or personalities figures to speak in front of our students.
Ask South Carolina State University what happened to them with their investigation with misuse of fund. During that time they had a rapper at halftime in which they paid him a great sum of money for rapping while the students room had enormous amount of mold behind their beds. And yes those leaders was indicted and got time in jail

Larry, a nuclear chemist, was chosen as a figurehead due to the influence of the FAMU Mafia fraternity. Despite being passed over multiple times and lacking the necessary leadership skills, the fraternity eventually succeeded in internalizing their leadership by selecting him. Since he became president, FAMU has been stagnant, yet they continue to celebrate his fake achievements. The desperation to make him look good created this whole debacle.

I did a quick research on Gregory he went through a nasty divorce recently whereas he has a restraining order against his ex-wife and 2 kids, he been moving house to house, he does not live in a home nowhere close to what a millionaire would live in, and he has unsettled criminal cases.

If this was a corporation and someone came out of no where to give $237 million to buy stock in the company, a few things would have to happen
The CFO and the General Counsel would have to work together to determine if the investor was on the US sanctions list or some other type of prohibited persons list and then they would have to determine what is the source of the funds. Are the funds coming from coming from over seas? Do the funds have some connection to encumbered property? Etc.
In the meantime, no one should be discussing anything about the person or the money because the vetting has not been completed.
There were so many mistakes on this one transaction that it requires someone to ask the question - “what other less public mistakes have been made?”
President needs to be the first to go so that the next President can determine who else needs to be replaced.
I call it a complete FAMU sham. Why did this President put this HBCU school out there like this.

As a graduate of FAMU, I can wholeheartedly say this is embarrassing for my HBCU. Even some of the students raised concerns about the commencement speaker. And this isn’t a HBCU issue this is a FAMU issue. There are way too many checks and balances in place for this whole situation to be avoided. Dr. Robinson should consider stepping down especially given his history and probably a few other members of the Board of Trustees and anyone else involved. Cookman is about to have a field day with us come November 😂

This type of mentality led to this problem. A PWI will dump people over their money and ban donors if they cause a public problem so we should do the same. They ran that school into the ground and opened the door to a fake donor.

As Black people, we have to shed these European ways to dealing with missteps. Dr Robinson or Dr. Friday-Shoud have done great things for the University that overshadow this misstep.
Instead of harping on this, let’s move forward with raising money for FAMU.
FAMU needs a detail report on what happen in order to make sure this type of stuff never happens again. Dr. Friday-Shoud should be only the head of the business department and not having two other positions so that she has a complete focus on one job. The second thing is that Dr. Robinson admit that he did not follow the proper process, so while I don't think he should resign he should be fine and other processes should be put into place to make sure he can't do this again.

Just don’t renew his contact when it comes up again, and quietly start a search for a replacement, but that’s not the important thing in my mind.
There is a breakdown in the FAMUly that has to be addressed. Assuming this was a con, what led to the desperation was a need for funding. FAMU needs to implore its alumni to give more to the University.
There’s been over 75,000 graduates since 1990. If 70,000 gave just $200, that $14M right there. If that happens over 20 years, you have $280 M!
