www.humblebundle.com/store/ke... seriously how have you not played kenshi yet?
Kenshi is a wonderful open world RPG with deep lore, extremely hardcore gameplay, and an adorable little bug man named Beep. It's also a place where you can go from zero to provincial governor of your own city state if you've got the willpower to survive the most cutthroat of the post-post-apocalyptic world and those nasty beak things. Don't you want to make a nice home for Beep where he can train to be the strongest warrior?
I'm not gonna lie, Kenshi is a really tough game at times and anyone who says they're gonna go through it without loading saves is either lying or hasn't played enough Kenshi yet to understand that this game WILL screw you over the second you wander into something out of your depth. It is also an irrefutable scientific fact that upon Beep dying in-game you will be overwhelmingly compelled to load the most recent save where Beep is alive or use the launch editor to bring him back to life. Did I mention that Kenshi is a very mod friendly game?
Between the Holy Nation's nastiness to anyone who isn't a greenlander, the corruption of the United cities, and the sheer violence that is the Shek Kingdom, it's no wonder that most of the skeletons have decided to do live in a place called the deadlands just to not have to deal the society at large. Also the existence of The Bugmaster is reason enough alone to avoid going outside at all costs. Kenshi is all about ignoring that and striking out to make your fortune in the wild wasteland.
Okay seriously though, that Hulu advert infuriates me. I get that it has good intention but it comes off like all those rich people who maneuvered their FRIGGIN YACHTS to say "we're all in this together" Yeah, but some people here are clearly more in it together than the rest of us. At least Danny Trejo seemed genuine about the restaurant he shouted out and Megan Rapinoe also seemed like she wasn't there for blantant "look at me!"ing.

The reason Kenshi is so great is because the entire game was basically meant to be exploited, enemy has slow attacks? Literally just step out of the way. AI is too tough? Just lure them into a trap. It's glorious, and the devs seem to get it.

I think the moment I fell in love with Kenshi was when I was in day 3 or 4 of one of my save files and my two party members got their ass beat by dust bandits. Ruka is the one person playing dead and at that moment I decided she wasn't the type of person to stay dead. I get her to stand up and while she slowly gets back onto her two nearly broken legs she says something along the lines of "I'm going to keep my honour. Horn or not." Every dust bandit turns to face her. A single swing of her Plank knocks one of them out, the bandits have the majority of their flurry of blows blocked by her, and eventually, Ruka is the last one standing with barely an ounce of blood left in her body. She picks up her unconscious bug-man buddy and limps her way out of there on her way to many days of bed rest after snatching the first victory in a fight out of nowhere. This save file has continued to be an emotional rollercoaster ever since

Learned the hard way why fog islands dangerous, managed to kite fogment all the way into some hungry bandits. Main character bleeding out unconcious, Ruka 1v1ing the 1 remaining fogman. It was a fight she couldn't win - Thankfully the fogman was more crippled. She kited him away, ran back to bandage the main character a few times, stop the bleed-out. Eventually picked him up and carried his catatonic ass, limping, all the way back to stack with them both starving.

i actually disagree with how he built his gate walls. In my game they are concave so that my guys wont shoot each other but they are concave in the opposite direction going outward from the main gate, not inward from the gate. So I have walls long enough to post up 3 turrets on each side of the gate that enemies have to pass by on their way to the gate. The gate walls then run straight into a large tower on each side. So that any enemy that wants to get to the gate must first pass by two corner towers with turrets on top and the wall turrets.

A pair of 6-barreled harpoon turrets at the placements closest to the gate to maximize DPS and make the best of its lowest precision. Followed by pair of crossbows in case of power failure, pair of dual barrel harpoons with spotlights to directly spotlight enemies that might not be covered by floodlights illumunating the zone. Then another pair of crossbows.
I try to keep someone or two as the heavily armored gate guard at full coverage and as much projectile resistance as possible. Killing the Dust King or random dust bosses will prompt dust bandits to always attack you, mentioning how you killed their friends. Kidnapping Emperor Tengu will cause the anti-slavers to praise your name, but the Samurai will brand you a terrorist and try to outright kill you for abducting the Emperor, rather than imprison you. It’s very well crafted in that regard, even the strongest of your characters will never be a messiah of good who restores order and lets everyone live happily ever after.

The game is still, functionally, a real-time with pause RPG. If blends at the edges with RTSs, because of how well it scales into larger forces.

Fun fact for those that have already been through the game a few times: The Enslaved start nets you an excellent way to build your ability to work, your toughness, your dexterity, your strength, your unarmed skill, and your lockpick skill if you don't mind getting your teeth kicked in repeatedly. As long as you don't get yourself killed doing it, you get all the time in the world to brawl against the bigger and tougher forces that make up all the guards all over the place.

Easiest way to deal with Beakthings, get a crossbow, and someone to distract them. You can also dodge their attacks fairly easy if you move away once their attack animation starts.
There is also now an Animal Feeder for animals though, and Goats and Bone Dogs can enter buildings of their own volition, so long as the door is open, not to mention they should also eat from packs as well.
Pretty sure Mercs are a finite resource, so if you waste them, they won't get replaced. Not to mention most are Tech-Hunters which don't have a Pacifier, despite being a pretty massive faction present in practically every city. So if you get on their bad side, good luck continuing the game.

And only then was I able to survive the most basic of invasions from the bandits and shit. I had to keep a guy all by himself in the city so that if all my guys died or got knocked unconcious, I could have this one dude come out and get everyone back up once the attack ended and the dudes were gone. first 3 of those days I had no village, the latter 3 were absolute hell.

My rule for setting up a base in Kenshi: At least 5 people and a thoroughly scouted area. Make sure you've got enough supplies to build a storm house and walls.
Also, Cactus Rum and Cotton are your friends. Cotton gets you medical supplies, which are easy to make and sell for a decent amount and Cactus Rum sells for enough to be worth it and is also easy to make. Good early money makers.

My game is the story of zu leader of the bandit hunters, and currently a rum runner desperately trying to stop the black dragon ninjas from stealing our bread stockpiles. Each character has a different armor and weapon combo. The bull we got as a pup grew into one hell of a beast that almost single handedly saved the team from a black dragon bandit raid.
