    I have a 05 polaris magnum 330 and this helped us figuring out why the shifter was stuck. Opened her up and found several broken gear teeth and one being jammed in between two gears, we removes the broken teeth and its shifting for the mean time but we need a new gear obviously

    There are o-rings behind the shift indicator and the shift rod. Mayme some didn't have them or some people may have added them. Either way seems like a good idea. For just a few pennies you could keep the water from getting in there. Also a bit of die electric grease in the indicator plug.

    I did the cheap fix on my 02 700 twin. Piece of can wrapped around upper, and I made a small piece to wrap around lower with teeth and lined it up. Tightened nut and it is all completely tight.also you shouldnt be getting water inside.

    On my 2018s, it's totally opposite. My biggest complaint is that it catches in every gear like it's binding. I'd rather have your issue.

      Check out this video. czcams.com/video/i-xoP_io2U4/video.html My 2007, Sportsman 800 has become hard to shift too. Unfortunately my quad's bell crank housing does not have the spring and piston that is shown in this video. In the video, the guy's Sportsman 1000 also looks late model, so it's possible that your 2018 will have that feature and his video can help you.

    It could have rusted away. They clearly liked riding in water with all that rust in there. I have heard of people removing them though.

    At times I need to alternate neutral to park a few times to get the machine to crank up, in either position. Any suggestions why that is? 2006 700 EFI.

    Did you have a hard time getting the piece to come off once you broke it free with the pry bar? Mine doesn't want to let go, I can get a gap all the way around but can't get it to come off.

    • @iveneverdonethisbefore8390
      @iveneverdonethisbefore8390  Před 6 lety

      No. It came right off other than the sticky gasket making it stick a bit. Maybe you missed a bolt??

      Shift fork is worn by jamming it into gear while revved up to hi rpm's. Round Shift dog on tranny shaft, grind on the shift fork like you trying to loosen an electric drill's chuck while it is pointed up, by pushing down onto the end of the chuck where the bit goes in, right into the web or U shaped part in between your index and middle finger. Grinds a round spot into the base of both fingers and in between them from friction... that causes heat... that causes the weaker metal to break down and flake off. Bit by bit every time you press it into gear it shaves a bit more off the fork that is used just like the web between your two fingers when you would push on that drill chuck. Just pretend like that Chuck is a gear, and you're trying to get it to go towards another gear until the teeth line up and it slides together against that other gear and locks, causing the meshing with the other gear. The faster your engine spins a less likely that gear is going to go slow enough that its teeth will go in between the other gears teeth. The whole time you are pushing on it with your engine revved up that fork is pushing on that gear and wearing down that fork that looks like your two fingers and right in between them until there is no more metal left in that you shape spot of the fork that looks like your fingers push it towards the other gear and then it just won't ever go cuz it can't push it for enough cuz it's ground down so far that there's nothing there left to push. The shift fork has just been ground out there in the middle of the U until there's a perfect rounded donut shaped gear dog cavity that can't push that gear into the other one. There's no metal left in center U of that fork to push on that gear dog to make it go into mess with the next gear so then all you have left to do is replace the transmission shift forks.
      Idle your engine down to 600-800 RPMs with the screw that has the string on it on the side of your carburetor. Most peoples ATV with your problems are at about 1200 and they just keep grinding that U on that fork more the more times they push on that shifter with it idled up too high.
