LMAO yeah I totally agree. I think he was struggling to compute his actions, he wanted to put the stick down so he can suffer more comfortably but he also wanted to drink from the glass. He couldn’t put the floss down on the table as it’s unhygienic and it’d ruin the floss. So much going on and he just couldn’t process hahaha!
I love that Ollie panicked and had to put the candy floss into the glass of water (10:37), just like a bouquet of flowers, to properly get freaked out 😂

Funny enough, this always happens to me when washing the plate which got lumps of the garlic Chili sauce ( brought from Malaysia, Johor) which are leftovers… as you plummet the shower of water in the basin onto the lump, the cloud of murderous intent Chili fumes kills me straight up with several seconds of cough and clearing of throats like an old man . Doesn’t clear after get a drink that quick…

My roommate a few years ago was making some authentic Chinese dish (she was from China) that required a LOT of chilis fried in oil. She told me not to breathe in the kitchen but I thought she was exaggerating and went to get a glass of water... She was not exaggerating. I thought I was going to die for a few minutes because the air was so spicy

Amazing. By turning the spicy candy into cotton candy you managed to find the perfect way for all of the capsaicin to immediately dissolve on your tongue. Truly the most efficient method of consumption.
Candy being turned into candy cotton basically increase dissolving rate by a lot. Instead of slow dissolve in your mouth, you get a big burst of flavour from sugar fibers which dissolve all at once.
Also, these fibers can disperse easily in the air. this would disperse all the capsaicin the air. That is why you get "spicy air" when it gets spun out.

I did similar when I first got a cotton candy machine, only it wasn't a Satan's Toe, but the candies were still a few million scovilles.
The dispersed airborne capsaicin is a terrible terrible thing.

The "spicy air" happens nearly everyday in local households here in indonesia as we basically stirfry chillies as the base of a lot of our cooking, so yea i understand their pain very well 😂

I am crying. That was hilarious and a stroke of genius to pair it with In The Hall of the Mountain King. There is a better version of it with big drums and sopranos, you know. Also it intrigues me that someone invented the candy floss machine. Like how on earth would anyone know that if you put sugar into a centrifugal machine it would come out fluffy.
People have been melting sugar and stretching it by hand for centuries. Doesn't take much of an intuitive leap to do the stretching mechanically. Then take it a step further to spinning. Still, it's like magic no matter how you look at it.

When I was in grade school, I used to get so fascinated with the process of making cotton candies especially when it got so big. The smell of sugar was heavenly.

Edit: to explain why they started coughing with the spicy one- when you roll floss there is always tons of tiny single strings of floss that get lifted into the air. I’m talking tons of them. That’s why you can smell cotton candy so intensely and also why it feels like you can taste it in the air, that’s because you can. They were literally breathing in the small bits of floss in the air.
Oh my gosh! Same! I'm sure I covered the Boston Marathon steps several times over carrying the cotton candy all over during carnival 😄

the less spoken about side-effect of the Toe Of Satan: helps you emulate the atmosphere of Hell right in your own home!
They have the background sound quality of a blockbuster movie at this point. The screaming when Ollie was hammering the toe of satan is genius. The sound at the climax suits the chaos so much I literally rolled around laughing.
Ollie's theory about sour candy being just a coating is mostly correct (dependent on the candy ofc). if you suck a warhead long enough, or sour patch kids or whatever it is, eventually you get through all the sour coating and the inside is just sweet. i think they coat it with citric and/or malic acid.
I feel more that our tongue adapt to the sour taste
they often use malic acid for the coating and citric acid inside. citric acid isn't all that sour in comparison to malic acid
