  • My experience with the Depo Provera shot! I received the depo shot in December 2021, 6 weeks after I had my fourth baby Nico. I mention why I liked the depo shot and why I didn't, how the depo shot made me feel after getting it, and weight gain with the depo shot.
As of July 7, I am no longer taking the depo shot and have switched back to the pill.. specifically Norethindrone .35

My cousin noticed she had thinning of the hair on the depo shot but she also did it because its 4 x a year but she has had new hair growth since coming off of it. You mentioned that it's not good to take bc amd your hypothyroid medication, maybe that could be contributing to a lot since its in your system the whole time. I'm glad you're feeling a little better and that what you're on is better than when you started on depo shots, with your depression. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

After my second shot and 5 months postpartum now, I can 100 percent relate to what you were going through. I feel as if getting the shot was one of the biggest mistakes of my life and I have been miserable for months now with uncontrollable bleeding and mood swings. I have an appointment Monday and I hope I can get some answers. Thank you for this video❤️

Thanks so much for being brave enough to share a vulnerable experience! I’ve also had similar experiences with birth control completely jacking up my mental health. Recently learned that hormonal birth control is considered a group 1 carcinogen so I think I’ll be off the bc train permanently. Definitely don’t want more kids but avoiding sexy time during my ovulation phase has been 100% effective so far. Your experiences further affirms my decision! Thanks for sharing ❤

💕 thanks for watching and sharing your experience! I’ve considered getting my tubes tied bc I’m not a fan on of taking birth control especially considering the amount of years I’ve been taking it.. but also not a fan of the idea if surgery lol 🥴

I just went for my Depo shot(I've been on it for roughly a year and 6 months) and when they weighed me, I was crushed. I've never weighed so much in my life. I started intermittent fasting this year, and I've been doing a bit of cardio and eating the same, but I'm still gaining weight. I think I'm also gonna get off it and see what happens.

Women need to know cause same thing happened to me. Your the the first comment that I can relate too. The extact same time my period came back I heard voices while I was having a shower. For 5 weeks this got worse until I was committed. I have worried about this for 25 years ago when it happened.

It can take up to a year to regulate after depo according to my research but according to my doctor people have issues with their cycles long after the one year mark so she wont even give it because the return to fertility can be so long. Don't give up hope! Care for your body and im certain you will get your little one soon ❤

I was on lupron depo for endometriosis because birth control was not helping with the endometriosis symptoms, i had to get on the pill when i was 11 after my 4th period because my 3 & 4 cycle went on for 3 months and they were heavy, i had a week break and then again 3 weeks. After being on ortotrycyclin lo(sp?). I had severe cramping and heavy periods from then on that last 5-6 days, i got back on bc with my now ex and then 9 yrs ago i moved back and fought tooth and nail, my ob gave me bc again but it was something similar to orthrotrycyclin-lo and then he changed me over to the nuva ring which didn't help, i found another obgyn since he would not do an exploratory surgery to diagnose me with endometriosis (mind you, I've been sick most of my life and have had to actually find dr's, give them my research to convince them to look, I've diagnosed myself way too many times) she confirmed i had endometriosis and started me a lupron depo, i alleviated some symptoms but the side effects including hot flashes from going in to partial menopause, after 2 shot(6 months total) she said my options were to continue lupron depot or have a hysterectomy, i was 26 yrs old. I said neither and she said well then this practice has nothingbelse to offer you and asked where could i go, where was the nearest endometriosis specialist and she said I'm not sure, you could try Yale and dropped me. I went to a "specialist" that put me on a high dose of depo provera(the pill form) and because i kept having break through periods which were horrible, he upped it to an even higher dose. I found out that he kept avoiding surgery because he participated in endometriosis studies but was not an excision specialist (i did a lot of research between excision and ablation for better success rates, read a lot of posts and comments in groups) it was either go in to nyc and see the big shot, the face of endometriosis foundation and robotic excision in nyc or travel in to Massachusetts, nyc didn't take any insurance and fou d out that after the face of the foundations book came out and was getting older, that his bedside manner if you came back with psin was horrible and that he was in the stage of his career that he was enjoying the limelight after his book release so i traveled to Massachusetts by amtrak(super friggin expensive and had to pay ubers and copays), i decided Dr.Mckenzie was the best dr and surgeon i had ever met, with true passion for his work and wanting to help his patients, sure enough he removed the endometriosis but i still struggled with a lot of pain, i hadn't been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, then later Lukemia (I'm in remission) and i finally gave in and called MA again, dr.mckenzie had no availability so he called me, we spoke and asked if i could get myself up there in a few days. This man took a momemt between surgeries to talk to me, no appointment, he got out of the or, ran up to talk to me in the empty waiting room, he was able to sit down a little, he agreed to go back in for exploratory surgery, he found that after excision, my right ovary was attached with scar tissue on my right pelvic wall and my large intestine was atrached to my left pelvic wall, thats why my pain was still bad in my pelvic area aside from also having chronic intestinal spasms and going undiagnosed for 5 yrs because i had to shop gi dr's because my insurance didnt cover the GI i had before excision, he had a hunch i might have ibs but then i couldn't continue to go to him and i kept being told by the new Gi's i had seen that i needed to lose weight and thats i should have bariatric surgery. When they did the excision they didnt have material to put along the the raw areas as they did so the scar tissue hadn't become what it became. Forward to last yr, some of my symptoms had been getting worse and bam my calcium was high, it had been before but my parathyroid hormone hadn't been checked, only my thyroid because for years i had been saying that my weight gain made no sense, i was working 60+ hrs a week in retail and i don't eat much because i have gastroparesis( delayed gastric emptying and becoming more paralyzed as the years have gone by), my pth was high, guess what has ties to thyroid diseases & cancer, Lupron Depo. They did tests, they saw a adenoma(non-cancerous tumor) on one of my parathyroids but couldnt get the right tests done to get better look and my calcium kept yoyoing so it looked like it was draining normally from the little they could do because of my weight. In May i had a parathyroidectomy to get it removed and the endocrinology surgeon said it was 3cm, it was enlarged and it had been there for some time.... i stopped lupron depo in 2016, 7 friggin years, my cancer treatment unmasked the hypercalcemia but because it yoyo'd it got overlooked which lead to osteoporosis and now i have a healed compression fracture of the t10( mid back) vertebrae which shouldn'thurt but it does. Before the surgery my new ob refused to fill the depo provera unless i went down on the dosage, i saw no weight loss but in the past 3 months since my pth is slowly leveling out, I've lost 17 lbs without trying, my activity has actually dropped because I'm mainly bedridden because of my low back( i have spondylosis which is a degenerative tissue disease where my lumbar meets the sacrum at my L5S1 its protruding there as well as my l3 & l4, i need back surgery bad). Tomorrow is day 2 back at physical therapy to build strength & endurance in hopes that I'm able to lose more weight so i have a lower risk of complications and not have to go in for multiple surgeries. I'm hoping that by 2025 i can schedule surgery so I can hopefully be in more tolerable pain, get out of bed so i can be able to enjoy and live a better life than what I'm living now. I'll always be disabled, live with chronic pain but to be able to sit, walk or go for a small hike so i can finally scream from the highest mountain i can climb(if i don't have too much nerve damage, mybpain is causing fast heart rate, high blood pressure, excessive sweating and possibly migraines I've had since my first dose of chemo), however high i can go, that I'm alive or just scream to let it all out and be proud that I've come so far because i fought so hard and advocated for myself to get there. Possibly continue to do reviews even if i don't become a content creator because I'm too honest with my reviews, i could get back into photography when i explore, i could handle sitting on a plane so i can travel to visit friends, family and maybe do solo trips and find myself again after so much loss (of friends, family and losing myself with every diagnosis or my symptoms gettings worse) recovery will take a mental amd physical toll, i have 2 friends that have had the same vertebrae fused except they still have tissue between theirs and they were both "healthy" weight and not such a high risk for complications and they got to go home to heal and I'll have to go to a rehabilitation center. My journey is going to be tough but that is why I'm giving myself a year to prepare both mentally(so i can be in a better mental headspace) and physical. Sorry this is so long, it all kinda just intertwines, i was 145lbs 9.5 yrs ago, maybe 160 in 2015/2016 when i was on Lupron depo and now I'm over double of that, I'm been debating on coming off depo provera(pill) but I'm so scared of the pain and honestly don't want to add more stuff i need to buy monthly when I'm struggling financially and with housing. I'm not ready to have cramps. My chronic intestinal spasms from ibs are already a struggle and feel as bad as my cramps were a lot of the time, i don't want to tack on more pain onto my plate but i keep wondering if coming off of it could help with the weight-loss but recover after surgery is already going to be tough and to add a period and cramps that had my dropping to my knees and in to fetal position from the pain. I think i want to stay on it for now and then after i get through rehabilitation and if pain is more tolerable, maybe then I'll be ready to tack on more pain to the chronic pain & fibromyalgia.

Sorry im not sure if no one disclosed this information to you, but the reason why depo shot is not recommended especially for long term use (more than a year or so) is because it does cause bone density loss and osteoporosis.
If you need birth control to help with endometriosis id recommend looking into a combination pill but a low dose. Something like yasmin or along those lines.
Also just letting you know, birth control worsens symptoms of gastroperesis. It can cause constipation and can have a diruiettic effect (making you pee more-draining fluids out-which is important for healthy bowel movement). This can link to nausea as well due to food just sitting and not moving and just piling up. Which also can cause cramping and ibs like symptoms. Which in return causes bloating look n feel in the stomach. Some birth controls are also linked to some tumors which usually are non cancer but still a tumor none the less. They also say birth control can increase your chances of getting certain types of cancer.
Honestly, i personally think you should switch pills, or just try getting off, your body might have changed since along with symptoms. Worse case it doesnt work out, just get back on. But you dont kno until you try.
Now im not anti birth control, i myself was a user. Theres alot of pros, but you do need to find the right one. Or else the cons will outweigh the pros and the sounds of it, the cons are taking over with this one.

I have been using depo for 3 years and I didn’t experience any inconvenience. My doctor told me to be careful with carbs because gain weight was one of the side effects she also recommend me to have calcium . Every body is different so I don’t think there is a rule for everybody! Try to pay attention to your body and if you feel bad after the 2 shot just stop it and ask your doctor for another option.
I had pills when I was younger because my dermatologist prescribe them for me. They affect me so much. I was very moody, grumpy and my feelings were all over the place. I stopped and I knew my body doesn’t like the hormones in the majority of pills.
Now I have decided to stop depo just because I feel like it’s being a long time and I know it takes around 18 months for your body to get ride of the hormona and effects completely. Just don’t take other people experience as your truth.
