L’estate scorsa ero su un traghetto dalla Grecia a Bari e ho cominciato parlare italiano con la gente. (Era stressante…) E poi ho incontrato un ragazzo e abbiamo parlato un sacco di cose e alla fine siamo diventati amici. Quindi devo dire che, parlare italiano nell’Italia è sempre utile hahah :)

This was a great episode! Thanks! I have two questions and some suggestions. My wallet was stolen in Venezia last summer. Do you have any suggestions about where or how safely carry money and credit cards? Everyone seems to suggest not carrying a backpack and I would rather not but when you are traveling at a time when the temperature is variable what do you do with your jacket and sweater when you are not wearing it? Two pieces of advice. They always say to make copies of your credit cards. You need to save photos of everything in your wallet. I had the credit card numbers but not my driver’s license number which you need to replace your license: Ticket machines are a great opportunity for pickpockets, if you are traveling with someone have them face outwards looking for anything suspicious while the other person uses the ticket machine. Vorrei tornare in Italia.

Numero uno è una bugia classica. Certo che il mio italiano non era perfetto durante il viaggio (dicembre scorso), ma non era neanche "due frasi". E nondimeno quasi tutti gli italiani avevano solo due modi: velocità piena (con forse anche parecchi dialettalismi) e inglese appena mi vedevano in difficoltà. Quando viaggerò di nuovo in Italia (forse l'anno prossimo), vedremo come andrà.

I'm about to go to Rome in 2 weeks. My advice to myself is to arrive at your favourite tourist sites before 10am to avoid the biggest crowds!
I’m going to Rome in a week, I’ve booked all the “big ones” (Il Colloseo, Galleria di Borghese) for the morning slots, planning on picking off the smaller attractions in the afternoon!
@@GregRobsonUK Oh fantastic. Hope you have a great holiday! I have a similar strategy - I'm starting my morning walks at Piazza di Spagna and Trevi since these are my favourite sites then walking to the "sightly" less crowded sites later in the day.
Also, because of their orientation, it's better to visit the important churches in the morning. The light is amazing, and often those big churches are not lit well, so in the afternoons, it's very dark.
Pro tip: If you know you'll need a taxi in the morning, arrange/reserve it the night before. If you wait until morning, you may have an unexpected and potentially problematic wait.

In preparation for our trip to Italy last fall I booked any museums and tours online that we wanted to visit. I had dinner reservations booked for most evenings. (I looked up restaurants by city and how Italians rated them.) I booked our train trips on line from home. I am not even familiar with how trains work at home so in Florence I ask at the train station info desk and the lady wrote down all of our train numbers and platforms. (We took the slower trains to better enjoy the scenery). Luckily I did ask because TranItalia did not mention that we had a short bus ride to connect between two small towns on our way to Ravenna. On our return trip to Rome I ask at the counter in Rimini and the gentleman printed out a list of all our stops, train numbers and platforms. Do be prepared to walk a lot in Rome. Also small boutique hotels are the way to go.
Agree with your recommendation of boutique hotels. I think there should be a movement away from air B and B. With overtourism ruining the real experience of many popular cities, the conversion of real living spaces for real residents is a big problem

Mi dispiace, non sono così bravo a parlare italiano con sicurezza, ma sto ancora imparando. 😅 As for preparations, I make itineraries so I can make sure that I don’t miss out on anything I wanted to see. I also watch a lot of CZcams videos that tell me tips about the cities I want to travel to, what you can do there and how to get there, I also watch your channel to be prepared for the next Italy trip. Last year I was in Rome, in a few weeks I want to travel to Florence, Pisa and Bologna. 😁

mi piaccerebbe tanto poter parlare in italiano. Purtroppo, gli italiani normalmente mi parlano in inglese, anche se io gli rispondo in italiano. e anche se il mio italiano é al livello B2 😢 Oppure, ti parlano italiano finche no cometti il primo piccolo errore, ma dopo basta, gli errori vengono puniti con inglese
It's so funny - I'm an absolute beginner in Italian but I speak/understand French and Spanish, and even on this video, I understood lots of what you were saying. It's like it was a mix of both French and Spanish words that were just slightly adjusted and with an Italian accent.
Beh! Niente di strano sono lingue romanze, hanno come base il latino, ma per noi italiani sono gli altri che hanno l'accento straniero. 😂😂😂

I agree about the eating. 😆😁. Eating is one of the biggest joys in life! It’s hard to do it in moderation, when food is so darn tasty! :D
We are traveling to Emilia-Romagna next week. We too have planned everything online in advance. Why take a tour of the Teatro Reggio when you can check the schedule and go to a performance? I love your videos because you teach in Italian. So many others spend minutes explaining what they will teach in English before they speak a word of Italian.

L'unica cosa che volevo fare tanto prima di venire in Italia era imparare un po' di italiano. Ho ascoltato moltissimi podcast in italiano e ho preso lezioni di italiano per un mese. La prima città che ho visitato è stata Ventimiglia e mi è piaciuta moltissimo. Gli italiani erano troppo gentili e pazienti con me.

Unfortunately Trentitalia does not make their app available to either Canadians or Australians (at least for Apple users). We have to book our tickets on their website instead. (This is not the case with Italo.)
Since I’m American I was able to install the Trenitalia app but when you buy and download tickets the app just links to the website anyway. It’s not really well designed like the Italo app.

Vorrei sapere parlare un po’ di italiano quando io stato in Napoli da giovane al 1989, oggigiorno si è facile da imparare però 35 anni fa’ non era cosi, ma ancor di più io sempre iniziato con le parole che sapevo come :per favore, grazie etc.

Per me un consiglio importante sarebbe di prendere del tempo per esplorare sin plano. Le città italiane sono tresori di posti maravigliosi che costano niente ma riempiono l'alma e il cuore, e anche danno una migliore impressione della vita italiana. I libri e video sempre mostrano i posti "cliché" pero c'è un sacco di luoghi che sono più emozionante che quelli. (perdona il mio italiano, sto imparando)
Che voi no avete detto, e che italiani non parlanano bene inghleza affatto, quindi se vuoi chiedere un passante dove e il museum e bene sapere dicere in italiano non soltanato per cortesia ma anche se voi trovare il museum.

Purtroppo, quello che dite qui, non succede. Sono stato testimone molte volte di come la maggior parte degli stranieri che parlano in un buon italiano (con acento, ovviamente) in un ristorante o negozio, GLI ITALIANI RISPONDONO IN INGLESE. È un'enorme mancanza di rispetto.
Curioso perché molti stranieri (especially entitled american or british tourists) trovano mancanza di rispetto che nessuno parli inglese
@@Alex_Rome Mi sembra che tu sia un po' confuso. Se uno straniero ti parla in italiano, tu rispondi in italiano. Se uno straniero ti parla in inglese o in qualsiasi altra lingua, tu risponderai come ti pare. Come italiano non è tuo obbligo conoscere un'altra lingua, ma se è un obbligo di educazione rispondere in italiano se qualcuno ti parla in italiano. Hai capito ? Semplice, no?
@@ag5837 dipende se si capisce l'italiano che parlano. Se è stentato, approssimativo e ci mettono mezz'ora per comporre una frase di 3 parole allora facciamo in inglese così ci sbrighiamo e siamo tutti più contenti. Sai com'e', il tempo è denaro...
@@Alex_Rome questa è un'altra cosa. Sono d’accordo. Almeno lo straniero ha fatto il gesto di provare a parlare italiano, quello che parla di buona educazione. sono anche d'accordo sul fatto che nessuno straniero, specialmente entiitled britannici o americani , può esigere di parlare inglese in un paese in cui la lingua comune non è l'inglese. Ora, si capisce che l'Italia vive del turismo, quindi è auspicabile che si parli almeno inglese, ma mai un obbligo.
As a traveler I think it’s your responsibility to at least learn the polite phrases of the language of the land you visit. Hello, goodbye, please, thank you. You should also learn basic social norms, for example, many videos recommend that you greet waiters and shop owners when entering an establishment. Say buongiorno before you blurt out vorrei un caffe
