I owned a black ‘87 back the early 90’s and loved it! My dad liked it so much he bought a red ‘89. When the second Gen Troopers came out we traded them in. I wish I kept mine.

I have always like that generation of Trooper. I remember driving one with my Dad at the local Passport dealer in Whitby, ON. He eventually bought a '93. Learned to drive on that Trooper. I loved that truck.

I bought my 1990 Trooper II NEW in late 1990 and I stopped driving it around 1996 when I got married and eventually made it through the "minivan" phase of marriage. I've now nearly completed the "buy a car for my now 3 adult daughters phase" and am ready to get the "Troop" back on the road phase. Wish me luck!

Nice Trooper! The 2.6 runs well if you give it a tune up and adjust the valves. .08 int & .08 exh. and copper plugs. I've had mine for 12 years and it's been a good one. Thanks for
    sharing!

My 86 2 door is great driving around town. 38,000 miles on her and no major issues. No matter where I go someone stops to ask me what it is. Yea it’s not a powerhouse but it will get me anywhere and haul a lot of stuff in the back. No matter what vehicle it is….when it’s this old and all original running down the road it’s cool.

I have a 1985 2 door 2.2 diesel n/a. It's pretty slow but I love it and it does the job as my daily driver delivery van in my small city. After getting my rotted body parts welded, it's a great vehicle for someone who loves to DIY.

I drive a 89 Trooper. It is tough as nails and super reliable. Best off road vehicle and daily driver. I would not drive anything else. With a weber carburetor, upgraded exhaust and headers, it has decent power and speed. And yes, it is 32 years old, so of course it takes some maintenance and care. Best vehicle I have ever owned.

Thanks for making this video! I owned a red 86 Trooper II for about 5 years or so, and loved it! Slow, but so fun to drive the weak little "box that could." I built a rack onto the front bumper removable just by lifting it out of square tube sockets) to enable me carry 20' long hang gliders on top. Two ladder-rack cross-bars sat across the roof, clamped to the rain gutters. Then I made a steel and aluminum carrier for my 1985 Honda XL80 that mounted in the 2" tow hitch receiver, and strapped the bike down tight. That was for hang gliding weekends. I even used to pull stuff around behind it in a 5x8' snowbear snomobile trailer. That trailer was as if made for the Trooper! Small, lightweight, but would haul a half-ton load in it, easily.
Of course, since it was already slow without a load, it was even slower, when pulling anything behind it. But I love that little truck, it was reliable, and so much fun to just put around in.
I went the lazy man route for a sound systwm, and since it already had an aftermarket AM/FM cassette deck in it, I just took some old wood speaker boxes I had, got the 12" woofers re-foamed (the old foam had ages to crumbling) and connected thwm to the rear speaker wires. The boxes were laid down on their backs on the carpet, grilles facing up, and they sounded GREAT! Not the loudest, but stellar tone and full, rich range from high (any speaker can get you high notes) to mid-range, all the way down to the full, sweet bass notes. If a peraon has room in their big SUV,, I recommend giving a pair of old floor speakers a try, even if only for a while, just to hear it!
I finally sold it and got a 1998, and still have this 2nd generation rig 9 years later, auto trans, 155k on th clock, and have only put $182 into repairs ... so far. The rings in 1998, 1999 3.5-liter Trooper V-6 engines use a lot of oil, but that's not too much to complain about, as long as it isn't leaking out onto the ground.
I've even towed a 19' travel trailer with the 98, and yes it was heavy for it, but it pulled it, no complaining, and did freeway speeds!
    I figure I got a bargain back in 2012 for $3500.

My parents own a 1989 Isuzu Trooper. You can find the video on my channel. Anyway, the Isuzu Trooper frame is rusted out. My Dad used it to plow the driveway until it broke down. The transmission broken down. Now it its sitting and rusting. I like 80s cars and my favorite is the 1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander model. God bless you. Thanks for this video.

I bought a new 1989 Isuzu Trooper II in Nov 1988. I really enjoyed this vehicle primarily commuting to work at various fire stations in Los Angeles. I also used it for occasional off-road trip.
I owned for 12 years and put 200k miles on it with the only issue of gas pump in gas tank failure. I sold it to coworker.

This is the Trooper that I wanted. But by the time I was ready to purchase, The new model Trooper in 1993 is what I wound up with. It is still going today. But after so many years, there are a lot of wear and tear things going on. Too bad Isuzu stopped making Troopers. Even my base S model came with steel skid plates, motorized mirrors and heated, and plenty of room for gear. Will follow your repair of your vehicle.

Sir, I own your Trooper"s sister! Have so for 30 years. I could really use your help/ advice. Could you on your next video post the negative wiring for the battery? I have disconnected a negative ground cable that was wrapped with the alternator cable and can't remember where it was hooked up. Yeah, knuckle dragging grease monkey me! I'd appreciate it if you could do that, Sir. To reciprocate, I know of some troopers in a junkyard near here if you need an item. The past two years my Isuzu was in mothballs at our home 130 miles East of Charlotte. I have driven it and. decades ago I grew up around Mooresville when Members Only Jackets were cool, LOL. Anyway, to try and bring my Trooper back to life I got fresh fuel, new fuel filter, new battery, alternator and got it to turn over and run for 30 minutes. Cut it off but then it wouldn't turn over again. Replaced the starter now no click, no start. So, I am no spark chaser but trying to solve this starting problem. I just think this can be fixed. A bad ground wire or bad ignition switch or relay. Love my old Isuzu Breadbox!😀👍

Heyyyyy!!! What are the chances?! SUBBED!! Greeting from south gastonia! I have a 1989 with the 4ze1 4 cylinder and 5 speed as well 😆 SO COOL to see another is in the area. For what its worth I've got 240k on the clock and I offroad with it aswell. Leaks a lot of oil (my trans and engine are coated) and power steering needs filled every once in awhile and i got some rust but lemme tell you the damn thing just won't die!!! Im picking up a 2nd one for my daily this week!! I definitely don't "baby" it but im careful since its 30 years old 😁 as long as you keep oil in it and other fluids and you dont warp your head these things are said to last nearly as well as a Toyota!! (1st gen only). Actually super reliable if you replace all those vacuum hoses 👍 prone to vacuum leaks from cracking since the rubber is 30yrs old. WE SHOULD MEET UP SOMETIME!! Also if you haven't already join Trooper Mafia US on FB! Also join Isuzu trader! Invaluable source of information and troubleshooting. Thousands of trooper heads at your fingertips! 😁

your review, I bought two of these Troopers down in old Mexico for a thousand dollars. They both have Gm 2.8 v six motors and five speed transmissions. The one I have running seems to be a real beast off road here in the mountains but like you I have noticed that on the road it is slow. It does not favorably compare with the 1995 Toyota 2.4 4 cylinder five speed 4x4 I had previously that was stolen from me. I like the square simplicity of the old trooper and am thinking maybe it should have a Mercedes 300 D motor hooked up to the T5 transmission for better torque and fuel economy. Down here the tops rust out by the ocean. The one I am driving has no top left but I carry a fitted tarp in case of rain which practically never happens. It is a poor man's landcruiser/gelandewagen/land rover and endearing despite some deficiencies.

I still have my 91 trooper. I've had many 4x4 vehicles over the years, and I still consider my trooper the best 4x4 out of them all, hands down! Finding parts are almost impossible. Cant even find them in junk yards. Do you know what price running troopers go for those days? I do have some rust on mine, but my grey interior is in awesome shape. I'm putting a new clutch in mine. My trooper is a 2.8 litter v6, and has a 5 speed manual transmission. Red.

I just recovered my stolen trooper, same as yours. It is a 2 door. Everything is destroyed inside but outside is fairly well maintained, they crashed it once lightly and it was fixed. They found it in Mexico lol. The suv has 215 k miles and barely used Bridgestone mud terrain tires, spare tire and everything is new. But of course it has a little leak in the front differential, broken coolant deposit etc.. Details I'll fix. But I love this thing. I am subscribed!. One question though. I don't have the owners maintenance manual :(, would you share with me please what sort of oil is recommended to use in this engine? I have no idea what oil they've been using.. I think 20 w 50 mineral and the cheapest oil in Mexico lol. The car doesn't smoke... What sort of viscosity needs transfer case, front and rear differential, and oil in this Trooper engine, how much liters it needs 4? I appreciate your time and I hope you can help me out brother, I love this suv and I am so happy I found your channel.
