  • Completed a few small jobs including replacing the new battery that I bought today, removing and cleaning the spark plug and checking for a spark.
    So here’s the moment (more like SEVERAL MOMENTS of truth!). Immediately noticed a few little issues with the test run that I can sort out quickly!
    Buy me a coffee? ☕ 😉

    That feeling when you finally get to ride your project and you're so excited you leave the tools in the street! Great Job, bro. Enjoy what you worked hard on!

    learned to ride on the "neighborhood" Honda 90. love them still I don't know if they could tote my heavy but around these days, but I'd still like to try. Funnest darn things, and darn near bullet proof. Every kid in our rural neighborhood learned on one, it was dropped and crashed... I don't know how many times. outside of a little minor fixing from time to time, it held up to all of that.

    I know it's an old vid, but l got a 74 CT90 a couple months back. I paid $100 for it. Got a 6vt deer feeder battery, cleaned the carb up a bit and she ran. I did get a new carb and an innertube. Runs well for for being 47yrs old with 5977mi on it when the odometer was disconnected. Gave her the name DREAMSICLE. It's orange.

    Your making me want to get my CT90 from the farm now. It's been in my family since new stored inside all the time and was bought just to check the crops. It hardly has any hours/miles on it.

    I was smiling like an idiot watching your video. My first bike was a 71 trail 90. How I miss that bike. The memories. Of all the vehicles I've owned, I wish I still had all of my motorcycles. I could car less about the four wheeled vehicles.

    Always try starting with choke OFF first. Watch the video and you do the classic throttle twist with a kick. Do not open the throttle as you kick. Leave it closed and choke off first.

    I just bought a '73 Honda CT90 but the brake light will not come on, either by front hand brake or rear foot/left hand brake. I see 2 brake adjustment swithes. Does one of those adjust all three i wonder

  • @chillrasta12
    @chillrasta12 Před 8 lety +1

    These bikes are often easier to push start if the battery is weak since they rely on it for ignition.

      Hi Dan, sorry I don't know where the owner got it from or if it was new or a reproduction. It was on the bike when I worked on it. I suspect that you would be able to get one online or via the user groups/forums. Maybe even an original one. Good luck!

    Do they still make Honda 90?
    This dirt bike from Honda debuted in 1966 and was in production for thirteen years before being discontinued in 1979.Oct 28, 2021

    I added new gas to mine but it wouldn't turn. Not sure if it would be flooded or if it would be something else.

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  Před 7 lety

      Hi Israel, I assume that you have let the new gas reach the carb? It took a while for the carb with this bike to work it's way into the carb and then finally it started. You should still get a splutter even if it is flooded but you can remove the spark plug and feel it / sniff it to see if it is wet with gas. If it has been a while since the bike ran and you have only changed the gas and the spark plug is not wet, then the carb jets may simply be blocked and need to be cleaned out. Hope this helps.

    • @IsraelHernandez-co5ko
      @IsraelHernandez-co5ko Před 7 lety

      +Mi Ty I added new gas last week and from there it wouldn't star anymore.

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  Před 7 lety

      Hmm. You might have to go back to the basic check routine as it could be something else.
      Silly question, but you did turn ON the gas, right ;)
      You could also try moving the tap to the reserve position.
      If you haven't done so already, you could try the following:
      1. Check that you have a (good) spark. Remove the spark plug, re-connect it to the plug wire, hold the end of the spark plug to the engine case (make sure you insulate yourself!) and try to start the bike.
      You should see a decent size blue-ish spark and hear the spark "click". Try doing it in a dim light if necessary as it may be difficult to see the spark. If you see a spark then that means that you have electrical connection to your plug.
      ..But if you don't see a spark, then you may have an electrical issue. E.g. a dead or weak battery.. or something else.
      ..If you are getting a spark, then it's most likely a lack of fuel getting to the carb.
      2. Look at and smell the end of the spark plug first of all..
      a. If the plug is damp/wet and you smell gas, then you're getting fuel to the carb / cylinder
      b. If the plug is dry and you don't smell gas, then definitely you are not getting gas through the carb to the cylinder.
      In this case, you could try the following:
      Try to start the bike several times, up to a couple of minutes and gas may start flowing through.. repeat step 2 again.
      If after trying many times to start the bike to "suck/pull the gas through" into the carb and the plug is still dry, then I think you most likely have a blocked fuel pipe, blocked manifold or one of the carb jets is blocked.
      Good luck!

      The reason your clutch isn't working is because that is the rear hand break. Ct 90s have semi automatic transmissions
