Scorpions look like a compendium team
Scouts look great but I'm sure every space Marine player is going to want this box. Scorpions are just a 40k squad in a Killteam box (brought their tactical rocks aboard an oil rig). Literally just making it more streamline for 40k players to buy Kill team stock.
Banshees and Avengers incoming in the list building
I like the concept of separating the teams/warbands and the terrain. HOWEVER, I don't like how they jacked the price way up for each of them. A little more would have been okay for the option to purchase them separately but they decided to gouge us instead.

The team box alone will be cheaper than the previous big boxes. The team box and the terrain boxes together will be more expensive than the previous big boxes, based on the similar Warcry two box releases last week.
You know what this Kill Team reveal made me decide? To start a Kroot Farstalker Kinband KT.
I was on the fence about starting a new KT, as I wanted to save my KT hobby fuel for the newly revealed teams.
However, as excited as I was for the Striking Scorpion reveal, I'm kinda bummed that they seem to... simple.
Where is the bespoke team? This boxset just looks like 40K miniatures, rather than two Kill Teams.
The terrain also blows, why no forest... I WANTED A FOREST! This boxset should have been special forces vs the unseen predator... you know, like Predator!

Given how long it takes GW to bring new models/terrain from initial design to retail -- about three years -- it seems pretty clear to me these sprues were designed to be released according to the previous years' sales model of "Big box with two kill teams, set of terrain, and book with rules for that terrain" and then over the course of the last two years, shipping costs pushed up so far that GW decided that if they were to release such a box now at an MSRP consistent with their normal profit margin expectations (they pretty clearly adhere to a fairly rigid pricing schedule where products are expected to pay off their development costs and move into pure profit after X units sold), it'd have to be priced so high they couldn't reasonably expect people to buy it. So instead they've split the product in two, but they're still working with product that was designed to be sold all together, and they can't go back in time three years to change it so it's designed for this release model instead of the previous one.
EDIT: To be clear, the grab bag of random tech gribblies you've complained about here seems analogous to the random grab bag of scatter terrain that currently appears as the extra sprue in the Killzone Gallowdark box but is absent from the Boarding Patrol terrain box (which is otherwise just Killzone Gallowdark doubled). I would expect that for the remaining three of this season's Kill Team boxes, each box will come with two kill teams, a book, and the equivalent of the followup specialty sprues from last year -- so, things like the Shadowvaults sprue with the two robots, the Soulshackle sprue with the breachable walls and command table, and the Gallowfall sprue with the medical beds and escape pods, all of which were designed to (but now won't) be bundled with extra copies of the basic gantries they've moved out of the core box itself and into its own killzone box.
I wonder if it'll be the same next year, or if they saw this change coming early enough that next year's kill team releases will look less like a sales model retrofit.

That terrain is going to be absolute hell to play on. The platforms are going to get knocked all over the place, and even over, on the regular.
Well sector mechanicus is a good terrain. But the sidewalks had covers and some buildings in between.
Follow Andy's best advice, Blue Tac everything so it doesnt move. I do it with all the terrain, not just the barricades. It's amazing!

It’s funny as I find the scouts and scorpions both exciting but more as updates for 40K then for Kill Team. They seemed mostly designed as an update for 40K and the fact you can use them in Kill Team is just a bonus.

@@bauguilhugo9037 once all the aspects are out in plastic hopefully we will just get a full aspect kill team. Fire dragons would certainly be a good fit. Hawks and spiders might be a bit trickier.
Using the eldar guardian kit as a budget friendly proxy for the eldar aspects seems like a good way to go.
It has 10+ rifles, 10 pistols, 7 blades and 5 chainswords... All the stuff you'd need to have count-as models for Dire Avengers or some Banshees and Scorpions.
I was discussing this with someone earlier this week! I think it's honestly the way to go. If there's an optimal set load out for this team then a guardian box will make all of the aspect weapon options clear enough. Might have to get creative with the exarchs. But there's nothing clearer than three entire model being beige, green, or blue to differentiate them!
Missed opportunity, they could have theme linked kill team and warcry terrain. That would have encouraged cross purchasing.

I actually like the terrain and gizmos. Looks like it'll blend really well with existing stuff too. I can't wait for the Advanced Space Crusade style bioship interior set though. I mean, it's the new big story arc in 40k, and those garish card board pieces will always hold a special place in my 90's heart...
A lot of it comes down to the paint job. It's weird how GW paints things bright. It is amazing how different the same terrain set can look, based on how it was painted!

Im happy with Scorpions but the poses could have been more dynamic.
It would be nice to include Dire Avengers, Howling Banshees and other Aspects like Fire Dragons too. Warp Spiders, Swooping Hawks. Yes please.
Seems like they just made 2 sets for 40k and called it killteam. With the hidden price raise of the box split not good things I feel.

i would have loved this new set to have been jungle outpost based. this terrain is just uninspiring.
I’m curious how the mixed Aspect Warrior teams will play vs the mono-aspect team. My rampant speculation is that they’ll get one team-wide rule for mixed & a different one for each flavor of mono-aspect. Also, the compendium Craftworld team of Dire Avengers is 8 models. So it’s impossible (with the limit of 20 models on a KT21 roster) to take a full 8-model team of each flavor of Aspect Warrior to a tournament. Off the top of my head we’ll probably see an optimal roster of 8 Scorps, 8 Banshees, & 4 Dire Avengers (one of which would be the Exarch with a Shimmershield & power weapon).
This would allow you to field Striking Scorpions against a horde team with low saves or if their assumed stealth abilities would give you a measure of protection from long range shooty teams. I’m guessing that the mandibladters will give them a mortal wound on charge attack or some sort of range black splash damage effect.
Banshees would probably be preferable against elite teams because their power weapons will net more crits & their masks will probably give them a strikes first ability when they charge.
Dire Avengers shooting will be a nice to have, but I don’t see it carrying the day very often. It’s going to be best against certain teams where you need to soften operatives up before someone else charges.
They might do it like inquisition where you get an expanded roster. I think they’ll just make the aspects be specialists tho
Well , Minis and Terrain split into 2 buys will cost more , but after Gallowdark walls x 4 , and endless trees in Warcry , this works better for me , and my wallet .
I do see your point about the terrain. But I have to say, it goes so well together with the Nachmibd set, that I'm really tempted. The do complement each other really well. Which prompts me to sell my Moroch Terrain and purchase this one, as I also have those tanks which where released for Necromunda. And then I kind of hope that I'm not really interested in the the next Terrain boxes and can stick to the teams with some Thematik Terrain peaces. My guess would be, that they keep the Mechanicus theme, but then I'probably goog with Nachmund, this one and the nerrative peaces in the two Team boxes.

Not everything needs to have a sense of the "now" if that makes sense, from a design point of view, as it leads to easily dated designs.

I'm really hoping datacards will come as standard in all the individual kill team boxes. I played a game the other day where I needed the core rules, the Nachmund book (for my legionaries) and the Soulshackle book for the close quarters rules. It just seems to make sense, with Justinian and now this announcement, I'm hopeful.
Maybe going to have to play on a metal table and magnetize the bottom of the terrain lol

9:13 redesigned ramparts - the ramparts are plug-and-play along with the ladders, you can freely take them off and put them in different spots! Like, always not just this new version. All they resdesigned as far as I can tell is they put them in different holes, so my Nachmund terrain should be book - mission compliant.
Are you tempted to use the recently announced Warcry terrain box with these two teams? The rules in the teams box might fit, possibly after a tweak or two.
A bit disappointing that the rules for the terrain in the Kill Zone don't appear to be in that box. They used to be back when they used this same packaging method in KT 2018.
I took a look at it after your message to see if it was viable and unfortunately I just can't see it really working. At least not from just that killzone. You'd need all of the big platforms from the whole year I think!
I still think this set should have come with the new terrain because its the launch set of the new season and people are gonna want the new terrian by default. Every set after should be the teams and terrain sold seperately. My fear is, going this new route, they wont release single team boxes and youll be forced to pay for these sets or split them with someone which could be cheaper but I predict stock will always be low or out. Id assume the prices will be $100 for 2 teams which seems fair as single teams cost roughly $60

Unfortunately GW don't care who buys the boxes, only that they sell.

If they used rearrangable board tiles for the gantry, then I ‘might’ be more interested, but there’s only so many ways/times you can play “water in the middle, shift around the coverless platforms”, and that ‘many’ ain’t that many.

Even if I am not (at this point) interested in Scouts or Eldars, I like GW's new way - terrain to be bought separately. It makes much more sense, as you won't be getting extra unneeded pieces with each next box, and at the same time you won't be forced to buy first box. And ofc, price of each box will be lower compared to ITD or first season (I hope at least..).
I am super hungry for new killzone rules. How will be jumps/moving between platforms solved? How many levels of vantage are there by design? What about visibility? I definitely WILL be hunting for news or leaks :D

Definitely a white dwarf style team as opposed to compendium for the striking scorpions. Likely will be mixing on a model bases as opposed to the fireteam type of composition in the compendium.

I think striking scorpions will be a 8-10 man team based on their 40k/KT1 stats. They are aspect warriors like dire avengers and howling banshees. It would be nice to get this three types in one team for variety :)
My guess is 9-10 based on how Corsairs are 9 and actually have specialist
I think there is a slight miss here. An "Aspect Warrior" team is a great idea, yet they omitted some versatility afforded by including some of the other aspects...like the "plasma guy" could have been a Fire Dragon, the "missile layncher guy" could have been a Dark Reaper, add in some mobility with either Swooping Hawks or Warp Spiders...perhaps that's just my "Aspect Warrior Fan Boy" rearing it's ugly head, and I may be missing something balance wise.

I love the new Striking Scorpions! Yeah, I was expecting specialists, but I don't mind. I never got any of the big boxes because I've had more than enough terrain for Age of Sigmar and 40k. So, I don't mind smaller boxes. This will probably be the first one I buy instead of waiting for the single KillTeam releases. Looking like they should, is great to me...
Keen for this. I thinks there’s some real cinematic moments to be had with operatives crashing into the ocean.
Apparently they said there will be benefit for mono-aspect Eldar KT versus mixed ones. I quite liked the scorpions, additional heads, Exarch naturally will have it's own weapons, there are so posability. They have a classic expected look which I feel is totally fine, many people really want just refresh of Jes Goodwin designs with minimum changes.
So much for seeing natural terrain in 40k :/ Just boring walkways again.
Also, it seems a bit unfair to have a shooty team with specialists against a pure close combat team - and field the whole thing on open walkways without any cover or ground.

I reckon the Scouts and Scorpions were both designed for 40k first, and Kill Team playability was just shoehorned in afterwads.
This was so disapointing.... the terrain is so ugly. From hyped and looking forward for month I am now not to go to buy a thing.

Blades of Khaine does feel like a WD team that they delayed so they can release it alongside the new Striking Scorpions, would also kind of explain why we haven't gotten a WD team in awhile

While the new teams look like great upgrades form there previous resin and old plastic kits, the new platrom terrian is the most interesting part of the release to me. My reason is those platforms are significantly shorter than the walkways of the the older sector mechanicus terrain they share remblances with and look to be the same height of the necromunda zone moralis walls and columns. GW has been pretty slick when it comes to the possible modularity of there terrain kits... this just looks like an amazing continuation.

Don't worry about it. Any Team can play on any Terrain.

The marines/striking scorpions are clearly meant to be 40K dual kits. I would have liked to see a bit more personality. I am exited by the new play mode, movement limited / shooting not. I think perhaps molded plastic isn't the best way to represent the environment they are going for. It will be great for people who like scratch building terrain.

‘Like… a slightly larger cog’ had me cracking up. I will hold judgement on this kill zone until we know the rules… I like the concept of over water but also looks like not enough cover and like fly will be broken… but who knows.
To me this does look like the pieces will pair with ITD really nicely as gantries. Would like to see some rules to integrate them at some point. Like you can move over the gantries between rooms and it gives you a vantage point in the room (but not through walls)… like you’re moving through vents and ducts in the ship.

that terrain really needs bridges and ladders to make it look decent, otherwise it looks really bare and weird to play on. Edit: also does killteam have a push mechanic like warcry does?

Craftoworlds are heavily rumoured to have 2nd wave releases in 10th. So Kill Team is in addition to new models, nothing feel bad about.

The terrain looks worse and worse. I didn’t think it could more boring than into the dark, but sadly it is. There is so much more creativity in AoS and Warcry than in 40K Kill Team. 😢

I was disappointed in the reveal of all Scorpions as I was hoping for an "Oops, All Aspects Exarchs!". But I was pleasantly surprised when they mentioned being able to include at least two other Aspects, but hopefully you can add all of them.

For the KT release, at least for the Striking Scorpions, it seems like they just released an overdue box for 40k and slapped a KT logo on it.
Looking very much like the Scorpions are a compendium team, I'm wondering if that means a refresh of the compendium book at some point.

Scorpions without a specialist upgrade sprue is the LAZIEST way to implement them into Killteam. The fix? Buy 3 boxes of models you don't need, to make a single Killteam. GW's total lack of follow through in so many of their game designs or release schedules never fail to disappoint me... Sigh.

It looks like there is one specialist - the Striking Scorpion Exarch is a baking specialist. I realize many factions have claws like that and making each visually distinct is important for marketing. But a pointy oven mitt?... Seriously?...

I think this may well be the first Kill Team box i have next to no interest in. Maaaybe i will wanna get the scouts? Maybe but honestly....the team's seem uninteresting, the Terrain I don't mind either way. I do like the fact this season will be water world type....though small part of me was hoping for a jungle world theme i've gotta admit.
