  • I was trying to cut down the big thistles in this corner of the field, before they went to seed. A pair of red-winged blackbirds became very upset about it. I had scythed within 3 feet of the nest, when I spotted it with 3 eggs inside it. I took a detour and scythed down some of the biggest thistles that I could get to without getting near the nest. I've learned the hard way, that if I disturb too much of the area around the nest, the bird will abandon the nest. So I will just let this are go until the birds are done nesting. So before I retreated I quick set my tripod with my camera near the nest to see if she would return.

What a beautiful setting. Mowing & listening to nature instead of drowning it out

I have a few spots on a hill to look out for ground-nesting birds. That's what is great about this method, it's easy to be flexible.

I’ve been hearing them call on all your latest videos.

Hopefully she won't feel so threatened that she abandons this nest attempt.

Very cool. A tractor would have just mowed right through her nest. Great job 👍
