People keep saying Ray Charles welded my exhaust. It wasnt him, it was Stevie Wonder. Get it right guys.
As my friend says: "Looks like Stevie Wonder did it with his feet."
Adam Wiggins Maybe with his teeth.
pretty bad welds but everyone's a expert
At least half making such comments likely don't even weld themselves.
Does it leak? Is it functional? Does anyone except a mechanic get under the car to even see it? No?
Fkn send it.
Ryan Schope everyone’s welds are shit unless you’re a welder as your job you think it’s good and a real welder will tell you it’s trash haha
It's so cool my Wartortle decal made it on your car! Thanks for the shoutout!
i was going to say, a pokemon wartortle , nice work man
The Wizard is such a simple man. It's the little things in life that make his day. An honest mechanic in a sea of scum. Keep up the good work.
The Wizard is the first mechanic I've ever known that had a mechanically sorted car of his own. Kudos!
Like every electrician I know has the cover off of his electric panel.
Imagine getting gapped by wizard in his beetle
@Rust Belt lmao
Yall horny
If you never Race you never lose
Lol
You can email APR or other VW tuners and ask if they have a record for the VIN in their database.
If you care to, anyways.
Wizard: *revs engine* CZcams caption: [ music ] Yes, CZcams captions, I agree.
That seems to be the case on everyone’s car video but I laugh every time I see that lol
So appropriate.
So:
New Beetle = Squirtle
Beetle Turbo S = Wartortle
Does that mean eventually you'll have:
911= Blastoise
911 Turbo = Mega Blastoise?
Michael Damaso shit I actually didn’t see this comment before I made a similar one. I think a 944 for Blastoise because kinda disappointing. Haha
Beetle rsi? I think that's what it was called.
@@TheDamiensdad Yep there was a run of those.
Tuareg V10 diesel must be Blastoise :p
Nah Beetle RSi is blastoise
So mission is to keep the Wizards daughter away from it LOLOL Poor Honda Prelude. :(
RIP
With her luck it would end up 20ft in a tree or through someone's roof lol.
I wish we coulda seen the Prelude modded by wizard.
Dont think she drives stick yet
OMG YES!!! Hurt my feelings with the Prelude...don’t let her near this one!
On most of the early 2000's VW Gold, Beetle, Jetta and even the Passatt, there was around an inch of lift missing on the front shocks that caused many of them used on bumpy roads to damage wheel liners, engine covers and sometimes sumps. VW released a simple alloy shim that lifted the front by 25mm or so to eliminate the issue. The mic quality is better in this vid too, good job.
I can attest to that on the Jetta's they were way to low. The problem wasade worse with the low profile tires. I had 2 Passat's that were GLX models that didn't suffer from the bottoming out issues.
Just don’t let his daughter drive it she’ll drive it into a tree 🌲 hehehe
Never heard that, nor have I seen the inch shim except for people who were purposefully trying to increase the ride height of their vehicles anyway, especially since the oil pans are extra exposed and fragile.
But I can attest to the stock front strut mounts being made of rubber that collapses significantly with time, changing the alignment and losing ride height. Just replacing them once in awhile restores ride height, or even better, 034 Motorsports has higher durometer rubber mounts that shouldn't collapse so easily with time like the factory ones do.
What I DO notice as far as the fender liners being torn up is the plastic nut that presses into the unibody frame rail will eventually deform and pop out, causing the liner to move much more easily on one of the front inner edge and thus causing the rub. That happens all the time.
Rhode wireless. Very good for price and size.
@@dzelpwr I think it was possibly VW's way of avoiding a recall in Ireland. I worked at a dealers for a number of years out of school. A lot of roads there look like tarmac rally special stages and the new veedubs at the time used get tore up bad.
"This thing is really, REALLY cool" - Car Wizard as he stands in front of a Murcielago, Bentley Turbo R, rebuilt 60's Mustang and a Lotus Exige

well as per the rule of hoovie, if its a good car, he gives/sells it away lol
Kavinsky Smith that’s why doesn’t own any Toyotas. Can’t make money off something build properly!
The way he says "I've got all the oil leaks addressed" soothes my soul.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say that now you'll have to put that thing on a dyno. I'd be really interested in seeing what kind of power she actually makes.
Re brakes: Seeing how this is built on the same platform, would Audi TT Mk I, Audi S3 Mk I or Golf Mk IV R32 brakes fit?
Probably about 300bhp
Any more than that and you may get a visit from uncle rodney
I have a TT and the brakes will all be similar. There awful. Better off upgrading to Porsche boxter brakes or Seat Leon Cupra R factory Brembos.
As a owner of Stock FWD 1999 Audi A4 B5 with 1.8T engine (APU) with unknown tune (2000mbar / 30 psi absolute pressure and 15-30 degree BTC of timing under full load, width factory rev limiter around 6.5k) I am extremely curios to see how much power and toque this Beetle have. Also I must point out that this engine is very reliable and can be cheaply maintained (at least in Europe). My car have 250k km and still going strong, does't have oil leaks, does not burn oil, the only down side is that eats tires quick but is not too bad (last set of summer tires lasted 3 seasons and more that 60k km witch is not bad considering that, they was one of the softest compound tires on the market).
Hands down one of the best engines ever build gives the very good blend of power and reliability.
Neil Titmus 120hp over stock is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. I’d say closer to 225hp
Make sure to take the keys with you when you leave it at home, says the father of 4...
I've never seen Wizard this happy. His eyes have gone all anime kawaii. That's love.
Best surprise came from my brother’s 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. I was cleaning it out for him one day, and while picking out some junk that had fallen behind the rear seats, I found papers and documents from the previous owner who was apparently buying a mail order bride from the Philippines. The little folder had all her documentation and how much money she had. The car originated in Texas, but made it out to California. Needless to say, quite the discovery!
Buckle Up Wizard, we want to keep you around for a long time. ;-)
Wizard. I cannot express enough how I enjoy your calm, down to earth descriptive narratives. A subscriber and watcher. Do you have T-shirts for sale? I want one, I'll sport your shirt every week. Blessings brother.
I definitely admire how Car Wizard gets such joy from cars which retail for $5,000 or less. So many car youtubers are fixated on super cars, muscle cars, and luxury cars that you'd never see something like this from them.
As soon as I saw you buy this off Hoovie, I had to watch the rest of the videos. I knew you’d do it right. Great job!
It makes me very happy to see of someone else putting time, love, and care into an over 16 year old VW product. This car definitely deserves the care you're giving it. Thank you for sharing!
I am so in love with the New Beetle. Especially that S. So much fun! I am SO THRILLED YOU HAVE THIS. Really enjoying the content. Please keep it up!
I found similar on my 2013 Turbo Beetle - I had a clue when I looked at it because there were APR decals on the doors, and when I test drove it and it revved to 7k, I figured it has something.
Once I took ownership, I took it to a local tuning shop so they could transfer the tune to my name, and then I had them check it. Turns out that it was the APR 93 Stage 1 tune. But, 93 is hard to find near me, so I had them put in a multitune so I have tunes for stock (but with the rev limit moved), and then Stage 1 for 91 and 93. I run it on the 91 tune.
Worked great until the 310lb-ft that the 91 tune makes broke the dual mass flywheel on the stock clutch (which is apparently only good for 250lb-ft.. but hey, I got 20k miles out of it). Then I put in a new clutch and single mass flywheel that's good for 400lb-ft, and it's been fine since (25k miles and counting). Nothing else broke, and it's good fun.
There's just something about a short wheelbase car, isn't there?
Enjoy Wartortle. My wife has a 98 NB and I've been showing her these vids. Rock on, my dude.
As an aside, I noticed the Pac-Man shirt. Check this out:

the 3"exhaust really enables the engine to make the maximum use of the custom tune and the higher boost. Great combination!

I bought a Dodge SRT-4 that had the Mopar Stage 2 Off-road use only ECM installed, and that car pulled clean past the redline and made 306whp!
As far as the best surprise I've ever found in a used car, It was when I bought my 2003 Pontiac Bonneville and found a loaded M9 Berretta Handgun under the seat. I bought it from a used car dealership too!
haha, Hoovie finally buys a decent car and sells it immediately
sailun actually makes really good snow tires, i ran them on my 06 530i and never had a problem with them, the blizacks i had were no better.

Just wanted to say I've been really enjoying your videos. Very informative and you have a great way of speaking. Very calm and enjoyable to watch. Great job, looking forward to seeing more in the future!
Can't believe you renamed the car. He already had a name, The Doctor. And yes, it has a tune and last time it was in a dyno, we hit 246hp. Hope you enjoy "The Doctor". He was a blast!
Love the wartortle sticker with the wizard hat!!! Soo funny!!
Damn that Beetle looks like a total blast to drive. I am a Mustang guy, but shit that thing has a great power to weight ratio.
They are. I used to have one, and went to a hill-climb race with it. Beat a GT350 on the course (it was at ~5000 ft elevation, so the turbocharging was an advantage of course).
They can be fast but at the end of the day you're driving a front wheel drive Volkswagen with questionable looks.

So glad Hoover and the wizard has put a sport light on this car.. I have had all kinds of b6 1.8t A4, mkIV jettas/golfs, mini coopers, e30s, and currently have a b9 2.0t CC, and this car hands down was the mist insanely fun, and underrated car I’ve owned of ALL TIME, I’d call it my ‘pocket bugatti’ .. gave it to a buddy of mine and I have plans of buying it back when I have my own shop to build it up, this will hands down will become a modern classic and a cult car like the e30 and the mkIV/V as it has a special following of selected few car nerds that have appreciated this hidden gem of a car and modified them tastefully to the ultimate daily VAG rocket ship.. I actually knew the one other guy in my city (Miami) that had one in the same color but with a whale tail wing, and we’d always bump into each other and get super excited.. Btw wizard, I also thought about getting the blue ‘euro’ VW badges and changed the headlight to the black inserts and it makes a very nice difference! Also dream about getting VW Motorsport OZ RSi rims some day
Very nice of you to drive all the way to Mexico to film that speed pull for us. You really should mention that so kids watching know that you weren't breaking any laws or nothing. And you are already planting a felony forest in it. Best surprise? A Hustler, Chic, and 2 Penthouse magazines in the trunk. And the pages weren't even stuck together.
Should still do a real job on headlights using rough-medium sand, 2K clear, and polishing.
Yeah, if you're going to save money with Chinese tires, you may as well save more by polishing the headlights properly instead of buying new ones.
6:45 This is something I NEVER wanted to hear from the car wizard.
Hahahaha
that comment made my day tbh LOL
LMFAO!
LMAO! Where was Misses Wizard!?
My 2007 Quattroporte that I purchased in 2010 was equipped with a very nice Kenwood augmentation to the stock entertainment unit. I didn't know it was there when I bought the car. Neither did the Maserati dealer. The only clue was a remote that was labeled Kenwood, and a USB port near the driver door sill panel that I found. Eventually I figured out that it was a USB music, Sirius, and GPS system that worked when you changed the stock unit to the "TV" setting. The unit and antennas were installed between the interior panels and body in the trunk completely hiding it, I actually paid the dealer to find it. There was also a very nice Blue Tooth phone integration that was aftermarket, and installed to augment the stock phone system. The prior owner of that car really wanted to make sure they maintained a stock appearance but have all the modern conveniences of that time. Funny thing was this car was a lease return that is why the dealer even had it.
Dear Car Wizard, your wry and exhaustive demeanor is somehow really engaging...you can tell you are a man with a lifetime of car experience and I really appreciate you putting it out there for the rest of us to see and learn from. Thanks for being an honest mechanic and a great CZcamsr! Wishing you all the best - as a side note I recently scored a 1998 Honda Prelude (red) if you want to see any of the work I've done I'd be happy to send it over but don't have a way to directly reach you. AYoh Wizard, call up some of the big tuners with your VIN, they should be able to tell you if your car is in their VIN list.

I still like the Car Wizard's 2004 VW Beetle Turbo S with the six-speed manual transmission. Good thing, he is keeping it and maybe get a second vehicle later on, like a 2012 Hyundai Tucson GLS AWD crossover SUV with the 2.4 L four-cylinder engine, which produces 176 horsepower and the six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability.

Hey Car Wizard,
Love your content and appreciate the wisdom that you've shared.
1. Can you do a video on how to properly check engine oil level on a car that only gets driven once in a while? and the once that are driven daily?
2. I have a 2019 Mustang GT with 10AT and I bought it brand new. I have come across several threads that people said it is normal for the car to consume oil since it was brand new. My question is that is it normal for cars to consume oil?
Thanks and please keep up the good work!
All mustants have issues with consuming oil even if there driven every single day. Be careful with that, they love throwing rods and blowing there engines up.. and the ecoboost is a horrible engine. The v6 is gone i think. Unless they took it this year.. good luck out there and be safe with it. Ford doesn't like backing anything wrong with there cars ... i had a fiesta and a mustang... also.. there is a obnoxious tick that is in the v8 or all of them out there that ford plays stupid with...
There was a dude on youtube that had the supersnake that had issues w the tick noise and with the oil.. he filmed the dealership and they gave him a ecoboost for a rental and didnt fix the issues ..... they just let it sit and run for the time it was there and called the guy back and said the car was fine..
@@tylerlowe8758 yes, ALL if them have issues. All of them. /s.
I'm not the wizard but I have graduated from an auto tech school - All cars consume oil. The rate of which is the question. I dont know about the GT, but tcar and driver had an article and in it, their long term test car used 21.5 quarts of oil in 40000 miles on top of doing 5, 10 quart dealer oil changes. That's about 1 quart per 1800 miles, and I think the minimum spec before its considered a problem is probably around 1 quart per 1000 miles. It's like that for a lot of cars. Fords, Hondas, Mercedes, generally around 1 quart/liter per 1000-1500 miles are normal minimum specs. Even for brand new engines. Get into the habit of checking your oil often. I would go by mileage and check it maybe every 1k until you get a feel for how much it consumes.
To check it, get it on as flat and level a surface as you can and turn the car off. Wait for a literal minute or two to pass so the oil drains back down into the pan and pull the dipstick out, wipe it off, insert it fully for 3-5 seconds, pull it out and check the level. You may have 2 dots indicating where it reads with maybe a quart/liter difference between min and max. or some other kind of design. Regardless it'll give you a region that denotes low and full. Do your best to get it to full. I check the readings 2 or 3 times just to be sure.
For one driven every once in a while, maybe every couple weeks - check it each time just incase you have a slow leak. If it's a daily, check it every few days or check it based on mileage relevant to it's minimum spec.
@6:45 xD
I used to have a 2002 1.8T. Had H&R Coilovers front and back, Neuspeed Down Pipe, no muffler. Sounded awesome. Had alot more work done to it, upgraded turbo, nitrous, etc. The thing handled though like it was in rails, I lived that car but lost it in a divorce along with an RX7 that I had as well. Sucks. Miss both those cars.
I love how much you love your Beetle. You have a little twinkle in your eye when you talk about it!
Dyno Test! I want to know how much HP this beast got ;)
Well it has a stock turbo so probably stage 1 numbers so 215hp / 247lb-ft. Not very impressive compared to today's VW's. But still pretty good.
Stock 180hp that has the awp motor not a huge fan just because it's missing some key things last motor I built I used an aww bottom end with awp head its a great combo you get the oil squirters on the bottom side of the pistons and the larger valves in that head. If u put a silicone turbo inlet hose on it and eliminate egr with a stock air box and 3 inch turbo back system it's a reliable 25 peek 22 hold boost car that has no issues mate it with a 2.0 5speed out of an 03 to early 05 and swap 5th to a diesel gear you've got 1 hell of a killer drivetrain THAT LASTS. built about 5 and all still going strong 1 with over 300k
243hp at the wheels. It was a fun car.
i had the same thing happen to me with an 03 gti, realized after 6 months of people saying stock 1.8ts are SLOW
