I found your video on my first search. I too have this clock sitting in a box for the longest time and I wanted to see what all I needed to do in order to remove the faux clock plate and install the real deal. Well done sir.

    Nice 🙂
Reminds me of similar situation with my father's 1960 Bel Air

The Bel Air in Canada, was also called a Pontiac Laurentian, and not a wide tracking Catalina.

My parents had a biscayne in that same color. The interior looks identical to the one they had.

Hey I also found a loose wire behind the clock. It was never used so I think it’s for the clock option. It’s a grey wire! Hope it helps!

The grey wires under the instrument cluster are for the instruments lights, through the dimmer . The clock wiring was a kit apart, that was optional for Bel Air and stock for Impalas. So, if the car didn’t come with factory clock (as Bel Airs did) the clock wiring had to be purchased apart or was part of the clock, that includes the tell tale light cluster light too.)
If you found a free gray wire loose pehaps it was for the De Luxe Heater cluster that was optional too and perhaps your car didn’t with a de luxe heater or may be it was for the automatic transmission selector light if your car was equipoed with manual transmission.

The original clocks had a red and grey wire with a plug that went into the fuse box on one end and had a plug that fit the brass stem on the back of the clock and bulb on the other. I have seen them on the Internet for sale. Also as soon as you plug a clock in it starts up with a buzz then you hear a soft tick tock sound. Why? These clocks are mechanical and have an electric contact that forces it to wind. It will buzz every 5 or 6 minutes. I had one of these and repaired it. It was painfully to watch you leave to check back on the clock since I knew it was not working from the work you did sorry on the non working clock. But I do respect your effort.

There's a site in how to service a '57 chevy clock on CZcams which would be similar to a '59. You can also update the innards to quartz while keeping the face original.
