  • This 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne was on Facebook marketplace for all of 5 minutes when my friend in Omaha sent it my way. I reached out to the seller just in time to make a deal before anyone else could beat me to it. This original paint Biscayne is a one owner, bought new by the lady in 1959 and driven until the early 1990s, when the grandson began driving it. Its been parked in this lean-to shed since 2002, making it a true gem to be able to put back on the road. Expect more videos of this car soon!

Great car! If you can get the six running, I would leave it in because it's the original engine and it will be refreshing to see a six cylinder at a car show for a change! I am a big fan of any old car that has an original six in it. Most of the old cars I had were sixes. I have a '54 Chevy with the original 235 six and powerglide trans.

I'd drive it after cleaning and putting new interior in it . My dad paid $125.00 for one just like that one and drove it home . Great car . Just for a little information you can lower the tire pressure and the 59 track width is the same as railroad tracks . We used to do that on some short line railroads around here that only were used at night . Sure was a lot of fun .

When I was a little kid my dad was a part-time cop in my home town across the Mississippi from Iowa, worked the drunk shift on the weekends and would usually drive the squad car home at the end of the night. It was a '59 Biscayne sedan, dark green and this car sure reminds me of that one. I would guess it was a police package with the 348, the '61 that followed it was a 348.

  • @KiwiStag74
    @KiwiStag74 Před rokem +1

What a solid beast! Gotta be the perfect base for a restoration.....but how far, eh? And as you say, what would you do?
Well, me, myself and I reckon body-wise, that colour just has to stay. With the water on it, you could just see it pop and I think a lot of it would come back with a decent cut and polish. The chrome and stainless is in great condition, so it just adds to the glory. I'd also either repair or replace the right rear quarter panel as although it speaks to the history, it just ruins the look. The doors on the passenger's side have also been scraped, but the paint hasn't been removed, so can wait until when you can find a matching right rear door (or colour-match and spray another good '59 door the same) and touch up (or leave) the centreline scrape on the RF door, as it's not so bad.....but the RR quarter is a real sad case. The rest I would just polish up.....and although the purists would hate me, I would definitely consider swapping the Biscayne side mouldings for that of a Bel Air or (preferably) an Impala - just because I like the look of full length side mouldings. I'd also keep her badged as a Biscayne though. Wheels and tyres? Those chrome steels you have on it look perfect in my opinion. Put the chrome hubcaps on and that's all you need do - no need for whitewalls or anything fancy, just a good set of rubber with that bling in the centre.
Engine-wise, if that old six won't turn or comes back sounding like a metal drum full of hammers, I'd drop a 283 in front of the Powerglide, although I might be tempted to tickle it up some with a mild cam. Trying to find a 348 might be a hard ask nowadays and according to books I have read, the '59's 283 could come tickled up from factory to produce enough horses to satisfy all but the serious lead foot. If the old six-pot still runs, I'd keep it in situ and drive it until it gave up while I took the time to get the 283 ready to go. Apart from that, her driveline would remain stock. Brakes would be upgraded to a dual reservoir master and have a booster and discs up front added. The only reason for that would be to keep up with the safety aspect and be able to stop as good as the more modern cars around me on the road.
Interior? Stock standard. No need to go to the Impala electric seats, as they were troublesome even back then, but the design / pattern I chose would depend on which covers looked better in the car with that stunning colour. Carpet has to be black or mid-brown - whichever suits the upholstery chosen. Door cards to match the upholstery as well. Dashboard has to be the glorious gold of the exterior, but if I could find the stainless Impala trim for the bottom half and an Impala steering wheel with the horn ring in situ, it would just finish it off perfectly for me.
Down the road? Ok, shocks and springs etc - keeping her at her standard height - but if the paint starts to deteriorate heavily on the top-facing surfaces, I'd paint them white and effectively two-tone her. Bonnet (hood) would need to stay gold, but roof and boot (trunk) lid could go white. Some paint patina I will put up with, but big areas of surface-rusted metal just make me want to shake the heck out of the owner while yelling "What were you thinking?? Just paint the car and make it look better!", so she'd never get to that state. I have a "survivor" British classic from the early 70s and the way her paintwork is right now (showing several different shades of the same colour, blending through different coats of paint and where it has worn back to the primer in spots) is about as far as I will let a car's paintwork go before doing something about it.
That '59 is an absolute beauty that just needs to be brought back and driven in whatever way is quickest. Chuck in a spare seat and rear window, rip the remains of the headlining down and clean her out, get the engine running and get her on the road and driving again, mate. The rest of the work that she needs done can be done over time and as budget allows, but she will be a good strong machine for a long long time. I hope that this beasty is one you are going to keep, but if not, let me know :)

Wow that's pretty much exactly what i've been looking for for ages.. if you consider selling it at one point or know someone who sells a 4door Biscayne that's not a bucket of rust, i'd highly appreciate that

Awesome! How much mileage on it? It probably won't take much to get it running again.

My Grandmother had a 59 Biscayne, in sea Foam Green, the original 6 went bad right after she bought it brand new, and they replaced it with a trucks 6 with no oil filter, the only problem with that car was the column shifter was wore out and would stick between gears, My two brothers decided to rebuild the engine and it set for 20 years in her garage, after my grandmother passed, it was towed to one of my Brothers house and sat in a field another two years, I was asked to look at it to see about putting a 350 in it, took me 2 hours and had the 6 purring, the morons didn't know how to set the solid lifter valves, and bent the push rods, sadly enough the years in the garage and field ruined the frame including the gas tank, the interior was still in good shape, and the body was dent free but the skirts were rusted out, 14 years later and the car is was left outside and rats dot in it, had Lots of great memory's in that old car, it was sad the see it last time I was out there, I subbed to your channel want to see how this old girl turns out.

I'd fix the quarter. Get the interior redone and leave it S TOC K. Fix the dash where the radio was. Ya got to have dash panels lying around

I would have to say I’d leave. The car is six cylinder probably restore it as is back to as much original as possible but if that six cylinder is junk then I’ll probably put in an eight beautiful cardinal nice find glad to see it’s in your hands.

I’ve got a gothic gold 59 Biscayne as well! 348 was missing at time of purchase. Re-powered with a 90s 350 some time ago. Drive it every week! Love the content.
    Just a heads up:
I Would love a shirt but the link in the description doesn’t seem to work.

If This was mine I would leave the exterior as is; new seats and 283 with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning.. These 6cyl engines were great as well.
