I found your video on my first search. I too have this clock sitting in a box for the longest time and I wanted to see what all I needed to do in order to remove the faux clock plate and install the real deal. Well done sir.

These were 17x7 and 17x8 American racing salt flats. The tires were 225 at the front 275 at the back.

@ Josh I’ve said so before, this is my favorite video I’ve seen of yours. 100% agree this is the last true Jaguar. X308 V8 One other reason it is true that comes to mind for me is the staff they had working on these. They had the OLD SCHOOL STAFF detail hard at work on these AND at the time that FORD took over ownership there was some fear that FORD would behave like Nazis and absolutely slaughter Jaguar. To many it came as a surprise that FORD was quite hands off and just let the old school staff just go at it and just said go ahead and create your idea of a most modern 90s era classic Jaguar sedan with an original Jaguar V8. The guy behind these X308s sadly died quite young shortly thereafter and he was quickly replaced. The old saying follows , they had the old school staff on hand for the creation of these best of the best and you don’t revolutionize a classic icon. you refine it. you improve it. You nurture it. You don’t let the baby out with the bath water and that’s what they did and didn’t do. You carefully and thoughtfully improve it and modernize it. You keep and preserve what’s great about the old models it is based on while enhancing some of the features that had become a bit outdated for the time. The result is a modern classic. I don’t know every detail about this but my guess will be that after the X308 it wasn’t the old school staff working on the new aluminum Jaguars any longer. For those folds it was the end of an era! This is also why this is the last of the last and best of the best of the last true Jags. My hats off to FORD for being so hands off in their approach and for respecting the folks that knew these so well. They knew as well that you don’t go in and butcher an icon and work of art. And they left most of it to those that knew these best ! It must have been very rewarding for all those involved. No sense of alienation working on the modernization of the masterpiece. :) Whatever is the opposite of alienation I think they had it. I’ll bet they felt proud of what they were creating. I’ll bet they felt like wow this is the best Jaguar we ever made and wow a supercharged V8 wow how exciting!!!! I’ll bet those were happy fulfilling satisfying days at Jaguar in England! :) And it was popular and it turned heads and it was king of the hill for a while. Even beat the Germans for a while. These are sure to become extremely collectible I’d think. The Supercharged R models especially!!
@ Josh Hello Josh! I made the trip to Toronto with no problems to report. 3000 miles from Alberta Canada to downtown Toronto in the 1998 black on black Jaguar XJR supercharged 4.0 L V8. I arrived at end of August. 4 full days and 3 nights of driving. As I’ve said above absolutely no problems to report save for using just a bit of oil. The low coolant light came on when the air temperature was cold. But it went away when things warmed up as I drove more southward. My last oil change was on August 6 about a month ago. I now have about 3,500 miles on this oil. Before that July 3rd. And before that about a year with the full engine replacement and the oil change it came with where the car just sat until I got it back in mid May. So the replacement motor has now had a total of 3 oil changes since it was installed. 3.5 months of driving it. 6 weeks about on the first oil. 1 month on the second oil And now about 1 month on the 3rd oil and that was on the long drive to Toronto where I’m at now. I intend to leave this oil in all fall and winter until I get the car back next May. Josh, when I topped up my oil during this long trip because it had used a little I overfilled it a little. After letting it sit for about 5 days I checked it and it is about half an inch or a bit less over the full mark on the dip stick. I feel like a real dip stick for doing this. :( Do you think I have anything to worry about ? Also I should add that it took 5.5 L during the last oil change and I added the other half L to make it 6 L in total. That was just a bit too much. I thought it would surely take more oil but it didn’t. -- Greg P.s. I’ve decided to hold on to the car The cruise control worked very nicely Pleasure to drive at about 90 miles / hour When I had to slow down I just hit the hidden resume speed button located just slightly under and beside the steering wheel on the top of the steering column and the car would just very quickly kick down and blast off back up to 90 miles per hour where I had it set at. While cruise control was on or back up to speed and on again the gas pedal felt as light as a feather and I could feather it with my foot and easily get even more speed and smooth effortless acceleration from about 90 miles / h up to around 100 m / hour. I drove this way pretty much all night with no other cars around. Highway 17 TransCanada From Kenora Ontario all the way to Sudbury Ontario, Canada via ThunderBay and just north of far northern

Reply to Josh @ Josh I think these cars are good for long drives and if we baby it a little it will take care of us. This was like Denver to New York or a bit longer. Florida to Seattle would be a great trip or Florida to New England. I’m a bit worried that I have just slightly too much oil in it but it seems to be happy where it is. 1/3 of a US Quart too much I think. I’m going to University of Toronto full time and it is such a pleasure to have an excellent car available here for the weekends. 94 octane gasoline and a car wash is what is bit to bat. I’m going to try to visit Stephen Kings house in New England in Maine around Halloween. I’m his biggest fan. And I’m sure he will think it is Christine come to life. LOL Greg
My recently acquired eddie Bauer 96 f150 does not have those bolt holes in the steering wheel. And my clock sprig was 140$ + tax and shipping was 165$.

Hello - great video! My bulb failure light is also on(95 xjs) and checked all 5 sensors and the bulb failure light did not go off. Any thoughts since you seem to grasp this issue? Thank you!

The 928 was not that well received . Such a huge difference from the 911 .
Definitely different, luxury GT 2+2. Targeted at a different demographic.
So I have a g37 coupe with 130k and it just started to jolt when idling and the rpm goes up slightly. Spark plugs are new so do u think this could help or fix the problem
I would definitely do this service if you haven’t before. Our G was at a similar mileage when it started giving us trouble. This service resolved it. Be sure to do the recalibration process at the end of
Do you know what size the tanks are for the longbed I have the same truck and about to do both pumps but I notice they are multiple different size options. Just bought the truck recently.
Rear tank is 18 gallons front tank is 19 gallons on the long bed f150.
Out of all the cars I've owned my 1998 Jaguar XJR gets the most compliments but it also has nice wheels that compliment it well. As for maintenance cost tho you better be ready to do a lot of the labor yourself or you'll get wrecked because a lot of shops don't even want to touch it and I honestly think it has to do more with if they break things it might be weeks till they can get certain parts for it. Between the supercharger rebuild, and rebuilding/resurfacing/valve job on the heads this was about 5k just to have machine shop do these parts. This didn't even factor in the labor of stripping it all off the motor and reinstalling it after which easily could of added another 5k to the bill but this was done personally. All in all those these cars are amazing, they really aren't that difficult to work on unless it becomes an electrical gremlin because these cars have lots of electrical systems luckily I've been fortunate enough to not have to deal with those other than when the alternator went bad.

How did you make space to torque the tensioner?
It has been quite a while since I did this service. I recall the best access to everything was from underneather. I may have “elbow torqued” it but I’m not 💯

At 5:53, are you sure you didn't have to push the start button twice to finally get it into ignition 2 mode on that first attempt? Saw there was a proper delay there in the vid and your finger hitting the start button a second time under 5 seconds before it went into ignition 2 and you actually counted the first 5 seconds. Just wanted to clarify for everyone who needs to do this without a scanner. Thanks for doing this video btw.
It’s been a while since I made this video. But I do know the process varies between auto and manual. Ours is an auto. We have had this G nearly 10 years and it’s so reliable compared to all the other cars I chose to enjoy. 🤣

Hopefully you'll see this message and write back to me. I fitted mine about 5 months ago and I was wondering if your getting the same noise as I am, ... When you floor it, everything is fine, supercharger whine is lovely and noticable, when your at low revs, it also sounds fine, but when your in the middle range, like half way on the throttle and climbing a hill for example, I can hear what sounds like a air leak type of noise, yet no leak visable, are you getting the same sound? It's hard to explain the sound, just sounds like air escaping type noise.
You are likely hearing the bypass valve on the supercharger opening. It vents back into the inlet.

@@EssexSilvering Here is a little more information on the bypass valve functionality. From what you are describing, it sounds like yours is working correctly. I have replaced the J-gate facia and the buttons as well, and if you know how to *remove the facia without breaking anything* I would be interested to know. My wild guess would be a heat gun probably...? Otherwise I can't see how you release the facia *without breaking off the brackets* that hold the clips. (I had obtained a spare one from the autoreserve website, so apparently someone knows how to do it.)

Does the clock spring affect steering at all
Not steering, the steering column bearing can though. They sell kits to replace that. It makes the steering notchy and stiff when it fails

@ Josh . Taking my car into my go to mechanic shop first thing tomorrow morning for the power steering metal pipe leak. I’m going to try to get them to squeeze me in....this is rather urgent. They are just coming off a 10 day extended holiday. . This may be interesting for you. They said they can make an extra key for me that will work like a factory key. Just using the VIN. My car only came with one key. So they thought it would be well worth it. Only about 100 USD What is even more interesting is that there is a car in town that is said to be a used XJR that some old woman has that she locked her keys inside and she can’t get into it and it has been just sitting in her back yard for years now. She still wants about 5000 USD for the car that nobody can get into. Well if this shop can really make a key that works then I can get into it. She may be willing to go for 2000 or a bit less but word is she has no use for it just sitting there and wants 5 K for it. . This may also be interesting for you. I was talking to a guy tonight and he was telling me these XJRs have a hand gun safe under the front seat. I checked and mine definitely has some kind of box under there. It may explain why the car came with a few extra keys that nobody knows what they are really for. I have to check it out in more detail tomorrow. Greg Alberta, Canada
