      This was very helpful, thankyou Bassima. I think as English teachers we should refrain from the use of Americanisms in English like 'super' and 'multi'-passionate ( it's not a word) I would use: very, extremely, really etc because it's not correct English and makes people sound a bit shallow. Unfortunately, it seems to be everywhere and it shows how quickly language becomes lazy. However, the video was very useful and I'm grateful to you for taking the time to go through the format.

    Hi there! Thank you so much for this video. I am new to Cambly and have not actually started just yet. question: What is the minimum or maximum amount of minutes that one student can book with a tutor in PH, if they are a paid student within that one call? and is that predetermined before I answer the call? or can the student play it by ear and decide to keep it shorter then they originally wanted?
    Also, in this video you mentioned "messeges" that would be coming in from students that mostly are not that serious. What are they saying or wanting in these messeges and how are we expected to respond to them?
    Thanks so much. I'm super nervous to start, but I plan to do so in the next week :)

    • @BassimaMadi
      @BassimaMadi  Před 2 lety

      Hello! You will see the countdown timer when the student calls you on a PH call. Yes, this is predetermined before you answer the call. As a tutor, you will talk/teach the student for the amount of time on the timer. The student can choose to leave the call at any time they would like to. However, I would like to say that it isn't the norm for them to leave before time is up. In terms of messages, this has really changed since making this video! I believe Cambly has really done a good job at filtering through spam or messages from students that don't have subscriptions on the platform. As I no longer receive them. So definitely not something to worry about! Thanks for watching and Good luck on your first day!:)

    That was a very informative video. But I have a quick question for you, I have just came onto the platform three days ago and everything has been going great. I already have 5 regular students. But since yesterday Cambly has released two of my PH's whilst I was still writing corrections and sending the students links to help them practice.
    I have seen nothing in the policies that states I can't do this? I have already emailed support with screenshots showing this but I will have to wait around two days for a reply.
    You are obviously very experienced with the company so any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated?

    • @BassimaMadi
      @BassimaMadi  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Andrew! I am unaware of cambly releasing your priority hours for writing corrections and sending links to help students practice. The only time I had a priority hour released was due to missing two calls during my priority hour. However, if that is the case then you should have received an email from cambly right after the PH was released to inform you of the reason. Hope this helps!:)

      @@BassimaMadi Yeah that's the thing, I was writing to my students and sending them links after the call. But I had emails saying I missed calls whilst doing this, so as you can imagine I am completely baffled by this as I had not even left the current call so shouldn't have been visible to take calls. Also your talking one minute and three minutes after finishing the students allotted time.
      I found this within our guidelines: We recommend asking students at the beginning of the session how often they'd like to be corrected (after every mistake, after serious mistakes only, after the session through a message).
      I'll wait until I get a reply but I am very confused about it tbh. Thank you very much for your response.

    What happens if you miss a priority hour?

    • @BassimaMadi
      @BassimaMadi  Před 3 lety

      Nothing will happen if you miss a priority hour once without canceling within the required time window. The importance is to not have it happen too many times as this could limit your access to working priority hours for a period of time.:)

    Can Cambly give payment through Payoneer instead of Paypal?

      As far as I know, Cambly only pays through paypal. However, it would be best to reach out to them to confirm.:)

    So far I have had students with predefined courses rather than chatting.

      That’s also possible! However, from my experience most of my students have been free talk:)

    HI Bassima - I'm not sure if you're affiliated with Cambly or not but you should realise that what you say is not true - "you have the option to take a break, or not to take a break on PH". Thats not actually true...... and in fact, sometimes it's actually impossible! Let me explain.
    If you think you can for example, make yourself available on PH for 4 hours in a row and you recieve bookings for all those 4 hours... YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE A BREAK! not even 30 seconds!
    The consequences of this are - if a students show up late, you can't catch up - not professional. If you want to leave notes on their profile, help the student after class by sending some feedback - you can't - not professional. If you miss a call by just 30 seconds, you will be penalised (although students have 10 minutes) not fair.
    I've written to Cambly about this... their reply is always the same , clearly they have no idea - this is their reply (twice):
    "Great to hear you have students lost of reservations.
    We understand that back-to-back reservations can be tiring, *SO WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE TUTORS TO SCHEDULE BREAKS IN BETWEEN LESSONS OR PH*. For instance, you can work for 30 minutes, an hour or more and put a break within your schedule. A break can really help you recharge and get ready for your next lesson!
    Have you tried that?"
    Have I tried? Yes, of course. I'm desperate to take a break sometimes, but it's impossible. You system simply does not allow it, without booking a whole hour off in advance , which is obviously counterintuative. I just need a 5 minute break, not be forced to take 1 hour off just to use the bathroom!
    I enjoy working for Cambly but the PH booking system needs a little tweak so busy tutors can actually do what you so often advise (take a break).
    Thanks for reading. I hope someone in charge will take note :)
