    Thanks so much for the helpful tips! I had a question about priority hours. How do we know how long our lesson with the student is meant to be? I hear that some lessons are 5 minutes, some are 30, some 1 hour and others even just 2 minutes. How do we understand how long we will be with the student? What happens if we only have 20 minutes left of our priority hour, but the student wants a 30 minute lesson?

    • @TeacherDaesha
      @TeacherDaesha  Před 2 lety +6

      Hi Holly! When you accept the call, once you enter the classroom you will see a timer in either the top right or left corner. It will tell you how long the student is expecting to talk. If they are expecting more time than you have, then you can simply tell them that in the beginning directly or through the chat. If they are still trying to continue talking when you have to log off then remind them and then end the class. I hope this helps! :)

    1. Does Cambly pay the tutor for any trial lessons?
    2. Can Cambly be full time job?
    3. I prefer to teach without showing my face, so do I need to do screen sharing for those classes? Have you taught students without showing your face and where they happy about it?
    Thank you in advance 💕

    • @TeacherDaesha
      @TeacherDaesha  Před 3 lety +9

      Thanks for watching! I'll be happy to answer your questions.
      1. Yes. You get paid every time you talk to a student.
      2. In my opinion, no. It is possible to teach on Cambly for 40 hours a week or even 24 hours a day. However the pay will always be $10/hr ($12/hr for kids). If that works for your budget then sure. However, I need a but more from a full time job.
      3. You do have to show your face. Even during screen sharing. We once had an option to have cameras off during trial classes. However, trial classes have been discontinued for some countries. The only time I've taught without showing my face was due to connection issues and thankfully that student was understanding.
      I hope this helps! Thanks again💜

    I'm so glad I found this video. Thanks for all the extremely helpful tips. I've been a Cambly tutor for about 3 weeks.
    Also, if we have someone scheduled but another call comes in 5 or 10 minutes before, are we expected to ignore the unexpected call or take it? If we ignore it, are we penalized in some way by Cambly?

    • @TeacherDaesha
      @TeacherDaesha  Před 3 lety +10

      I'm so glad I was able to help :) Congrats on being a new tutor.
      It is up to you whether you take the call or not. You could either:
      1. Answer the call and inform the student you need to leave in five minutes.
      2. Set your status to online only for your reservation, so you will not receive random calls.
      3. Ignore the call.
      I always do #2 ,just because I'm more comfortable with it. And Cambly does not penalize me monetarily. However you may not get that many calls if you make it a habit to ignore calls instead of just changing your status.

    Hey, you can select reservation timings for anyone to book the time with you, right? But if no one has taken those timings to see you, can you do priority hours instead, while the reservation timings are still selected ready for anyone to take them?

    • @TeacherDaesha
      @TeacherDaesha  Před 2 lety +2

      Short answer: Yes. Long answer: if you are selecting to do a priority hour last minute(if it is still available) you need to select that hour a few minutes before it actually starts. You can also schedule a priority hour and reservations at the same time.

      Hi Shamira! Thank you for watching. Congrats on joining the Cambly family! In my experiences you do not receive a deduction or penalty for rejecting calls. I wouldn't reject calls during the beginning of my priority hour because it might lower the amount of calls during the hour but, at the end of it should be fine. Also I haven't received any written reviews from students yet. However, from what I can remember, my ratings began after my first call. I hope this helps :)

Here I am a year later after NOT teaching at all with Cambly and needing more information on how to be effective with my bookings. I had given it up. I didn't like waiting for a student to arrive for long periods of time. I wasn't aware that I could make future reservations. OMG! smh. I want to schedule around my other online teaching platforms. Hi Natasha! The best advice I can give is to think of Cambly classes less of a class and more of a conversation. If you stay on the adult side of Cambly that's what a "class" feels like. So if you have the gift of gab it will come natural. Even if you don't and feel not as confident the lessons that are provided will definitely take up class time so the only thing you will have to do is read the script and maybe point out whenever their responses are not as natural. I hope this was of some help :)
