It is a hard level.Ssomehow both harder to defend and harder to siege
Mainly because there is not enough empty apace in the castle to build upon
And harder to siege because its a very defensible fort with multiple small pockets. So if one falls, rest still could stand on and wait until the sieger's forces melt down trying to blitz into citadel
Me too, is there no way to play this version from years ago again? It was very difficult and real, just like the movie

I started laughing so hard at 23:50 minutes when he said "What are you celebrating for, guys? There is a huge evil army in your castle!"
The lack of fire arrows and purchasable Elven Warriors only increase the difficulty.
@Alexandria M Yeah that was a bit painfull to watch from time to time :D But remember that he was commenting while playing the battle. I wouldnt ve been able to do that tbh. Multitasking while talking can really be hard.
@Alexandria M Yeah, low usage of Legolas's "Uzi" ability, Gimli, Aragorn, Theoden and Eowyn should defend side entrance to castle and archers should take care of enemy ranged units first. The same group of crossbow Uruks on the outer wall was grinding elvish archers i guess wole time.
The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep... one last time!!

They’re probably going make another game when another trilogy of lord of the rings comes out or something like that just a theory.
They can't promote it.

The reason why EA don't remaster this is because the game is not woke...
This was always my favorite mission in this game. This is how I wish it was back in the day.
Morning from Middle Earth(NZ).
When this game first came out and I tried this mission... i failed... hard.
Then I decided a change in tactics: recruit units for defense, but at the start, keep your heroes outside to the right. They will focus down a big part of the army and also are able to destroy atleast one of the camps a lot faster, making this mission way easier.
So many memories of this map in BFME2, I used to upgrade my elves with silven arrows and just wreck everything on hard difficulty. It wasn't challenging at all my my 15 year old self was loving every second of it
You're so likeable and have a gentle voice. Also, I love your videos, especially when you still play my favourite game of all time. I was in middle school when I first played this game. Fun stuff

There used to be a Custom map of Helms Deep for Killing Floor. It is to this day the best multiplayer experience I have ever had. Holding the wall against a couple thousand zombies with my friends and modern ordinance. Doesn't get any better than that. Damn I miss that map.

I was 10 years old when bfme was released and I played the game to death and now I'm playing your 2.22 good campaign and it's hard as fock :D but new experience for sure. Greetings from Slovakia. The inner keep was seriously overpowered as a defensive position in this level. I found I was able to win on hard with nothing but my starting units and heroes simply by defending those two entrances to the courtyard.
As I remember, I've abandoned the outer wall and placed whole my army in the castle. Uruks spent the half of time climbing to it, and I easily kept the narrow entrances to the citadel
The good campain fortress defense missions are so insanely fun to play. I have yet to experience a similar mission in more modern games.

I love this map! It was always my most-played in the campaign. question though, the aspect ratio looks a bit off, a little too wide, or is that just my eyes playing a trick on me. The pictures of the heroes look wider than they are tall and the map circle is wider than it is tall? Is that just because of the upload or does it look like that when you're playing the game
How can you set the command limit to 750? Does it work on the campaing?

I remember back in the days after beating the Good Campaign like 17346812 times, I would put some restrictions on my next runs voluntarily, for instanse, I would not buy fire arrows and not recruit elven warriors in this misson, and even suicide those elven reinforcements that come later by putting them right in front of the orc army, or sometimes I would allow them to blow the wall up and retreat to the main keep recreating the famous scene... ah, good times

13:20 because it makes more money than a PC or console game can through micro-transaction. I played rise to war, season pass is like 20 alone then you would want more commanders and so on. In the end, i spent like 400 on it playing for like 15 days lol

Hey Shanks in regards to the insane AI can you just toss out the easy setting and place the original original normal files there. Then toss out the original normal and replace with the original hard AI. Then finally place insane in the original hard setting? this ways its still only three difficulty setting but now they are all upgraded.
I like this idea. The easy AI is useless
@@keyboardtalk agreed, beside not that great at swapping files worried I'd break something. However if he dropped easy in the next update problems solved. 😀
ah, see i played the battle for middle earth 2 game, and i gotta say, if you play the elves and get them maxed out with weapons and armor upgrades? all you gotta do is put 3 units at the main gate and 2 ranger units on the side that have the long distance sniping ability? i have had a 3V1 max difficulty against the 3 mordor classes at once and they never make it past the front gate...the AI is very poorly done and repetitive and they ONLY go after the front gate so no matter how much they attack me they are all basically funneled into that one spot and are just blown away by archers before they do too much damage....sometimes they destroy the gate but by then there are so few units left that are already heavily damaged they get through the gate just to be finished off by the towers i set up behind it...and then i just repair the gate...usually i can just sit back and let themselves break against my defenses over and over and just rack up the points i need for special abilities and i can straight up destroy one of their bases if i hit them with everything at once, cuz i can summon a flood, tom bombadil, the ents, the eagles, a squad of hobbits, a barrage of arrows and a few other things and just annihilate an entire area before they all disappear...what i like to do is rinse and repeat that tactic (which takes a long while) but i use that time to max out my army with the best weapons and armor, back them up with at least one hero and then send them all out at once to attack the last base and then add the special perk units in as well and just obliterate them at the end....ah...good times

Hey Shanks! Why don't you add more levels to minas tirith in the campaign? There were 7 levels in the movie but only 2 in the game.
And wouldn't it be nice to have the elven warriors reinforced in the Helm's deep mission that you trained in the second (Lothlorein) mission?

Are you one of the devs that made the defenders in the evil campgain have level 3 troops on Helms walls? Cause that is just to though to punch through with isengards army. Ladders can't reach the wall, Troops level 6 or lower get shredded in seconds.

So I have been trying to find a video where someone was actually playing in the same conditions as I am for helm's deep...I am playing the 2.22 patch, playing on medium difficulty, I have only a command limit of 300, and EVERY battalion of uruks is fully levelled up with every upgrade, every last battalion has fire arrows, forged blades, heavy armor and bannermen. I have been able to hold up in the third level but during the third wave they breach the upper gate and shit gets messy. I have made it to when gandalf and eomer arrive but just as soon as they do another fully upgraded wave attacks and wipes them completely out. Is anyone else stuck facing this crazy impossible mission? I mean this video he has 750 command and the Uruks are WAY less upgraded. Its kind of ruining the game for me because I cant change the patch with my save and I can't pass this level no matter what.

have you ever played the Good campaign in this patch? I'm totally stuck at this Helm's Deep mission! Archers in this patch are do much weaker than in v1.0, I could barely hold until reinforcements, with uruks filling the whole keep xD and even then, fully upgraded 240 supply of Rohirrim that came with Eomer and Gandalf, couldn't even make a dent in Isengard's forces. I had full supply of Elven archers on the walls, backed by heroes and statues for buffs, but I didn't have Cloudbreak because you can't get it by then yet, while the siege will start with Isengard's Rain power x_x...
Also flaming arrows are total sh*t vs ladders and siege xD
EDIT: ^that's on EASY difficulty
