  • This video is a mid-year review of all of the RV parks we’ve stayed in for 2023! We’ve kept track of the cost, amenities, likes and dislikes of each park we’ve visited! Covering parks from Texas to Maine, we have twenty parks to review, so there is a lot to discuss!
    We also play a game to see how our lists compare to each other. Since our list of likes and dislikes is usually different, you’ll want to see how each list turns out! We review our bottom five parks that we’d likely never return to, as well as our top five parks that we would absolutely return to! Our lists surprised each other, and we think you’ll be surprised, too! Let us know how our list compares to the parks you’ve visited!

    as a 30 year camper in the NE I say most are not worth the money. However you need to remember they have a short season...usually mothers day to columbus day. Also their labor costs and taxes are through the roof unlike southern red states. BTW....we retired and moved to SC...best idea in years.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 11 měsíci +7

      We found they have short seasons, they are older, and they charge way more than we expected! See we made all these plans for the year at one time so when we started reserving places that were $70 or more a night we thought wow we are going to be staying at some nice places! We found out that the price doesn't mean nice, we actually stayed at some not so great places that were expensive on this trip!

    We try to stay at state parks and private as a last resort. Granted, being a older couple, we don’t really need a pool, playground, putt putt etc that the private parks have.

      We try to stay at the best place for what we are trying to accomplish on the trip! We did try to make sure the kids had a great time this year so we stayed at several really nice places between Memorial Day and Labor day so we could enjoy the pools and amenities!

    Y’all did spend some $$, but y’all had a great time and made a lot of memories (and great videos😂😂😂). But it looks like the north east could be a “one and done” for a lot of us. Thanks a lot for all the campground tours and an expectation on what it costs to tour up there.

      We had a great time on this trip so far, and we spent way more money that we thought we would to do it! There are some places we will go back to, but there is a lot of the NE that was probably the only time we will go there!

    I chuckled at Williamsburg being northeast. I view that as south being from CT. I’ve looked at a few RV sites when I was down there on vacation with the family, and none that I saw looked worthwhile.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 11 měsíci +4

      Well we are considering all of the parks on this list part of our trip to the NE! But Virginia is the first place where things changed significantly, and we started to feel like we were no longer in the south! We were also surprised that the north and south line is a lot further north than we thought it was!

    Given that we’ve traveled in our RV to 49 of the 50 states and all over Canada, we’ve stayed in a lot of RV parks. Before our last trip in July, I would have said our top two favorites were the KOA’s in San Diego and Tucson. But in July, we stayed at a new RV park in Flagstaff, AZ called Village Camp Resort. That would have to be my favorite. The worst one was back when we lived in Wisconsin and stayed at Lake Peppin RV park in Lake City, MN. It was one of the hottest weeks of the year and we couldn’t keep our AC going. It turns out that our electric pedestal was 30 amps and was shared with the people behind us. When they turned their AC on it shut our breaker off and we couldn’t run ours and vice versa. And they weren’t the sharing kind of neighbors. I love to see your video on all the parks you stayed at.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 11 měsíci +2

      It's very easy to remember the great ones and the worst ones! It's funny because the worst parks for us always involve our experience not meeting the expectations! And some of our best stays have come when we stayed at nothing special places that ended up being amazing!

    This is a super how to about RV life can be. What to do in finding a park, what to know. What the planning of activities versus what activities are there really. About budgeting.
    One of the best was up in Auburn, and one in Fort Gaines. Easy one for you on I-10 in Alabama is Hidden hollow- for a quick stay over

      We liked the park, it was very well kept and nice and neat! The river running next to it is also pretty awesome! This is one that had we been there in season it might have gotten better scores from us! Nothing wrong with the park, but when you go to Pigeon Forge you go there to be in Pigeon Forge not the RV park so for me this is not the type of park you need to stay in if you want to explore!

    GREAT JOB, a lot of good information. Hehehe And you have to be careful with the websites of RV parks. We booked a site in Canada once, the website showed a Beautiful place. It was a sardine can Park, the sites were so close you could not put your awning out. It would hit your neighbors slide out. The park SUCK, the area was GREAT. HEHEHE We just got back from a 8000+ mile trip, 16 states. After half way I STOPPED looking at the cost of things. Fuel, sites, HEHEHE It’s go or say Home. We are going…… Love Your Videos.

    Next time if you ever make it to Maine in Orchard Beach, Bailey’s RV resort is fantastic for kids, ton amenities and activities for the kids. There’s a trolley takes you to old Orchard as well as Pine point beach. If you stay down around the fishing pond spots are good size with no issues with a big rig. And if you make it to Portland, head light the best lobster roll you’ll ever have is off of a food truck. Bite into Maine is the name enjoy safe

    Worst was a place outside of Savannah GA., Happy Acres. This place, while well maintained, had cats everywhere. At least 100 of them. Half the park was mobile homes. At least once a day it smelled like a skunk ran through the campground, if you know what I mean. The best is a tie between two parks. The Ridge in Pigeon Forge. and Talona Ridge RV Resort in Ellijay, GA. Both were well worth the money. The Ridge, had everything; form pizza ovens and hottubs AT THE SITE, to lazy rivers and pools.

    RVing since May 1999
    My #1. Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA by far the best in the USA.
    A close number 2 is West Glacier KOA, it’s the best KOA ever.
    My worse campground is Livingston KOA, Livingston, Montana tied with Devils Tower KOA, oh add Quad Cities KOA in Davenport, Iowa. ( they got kicked out of the KOA system)
    Although there are hundreds of campgrounds we have been to, I can’t remember most.
    That’s why I been doing campground reviews on CZcams. Just so I can remember the campgrounds and my sites.

      Thank you! We are so glad you enjoy the channel and the videos! Thousand trails is a great option if you want to stay in a regional area! It is also tricky to play the planning game and use the system to the maximum benefit! We considered it but, our first year was out west and they aren't in that area! After that year we decided we don't want to be locked into a certain region or only campgrounds in the TT network! It is a great option just doesn't work for the way we want to travel!

    Great, now I can't let my wife watch this video. I booked Alecia's worst campground for Memorial Day weekend next year! I just know she's going to question it if she sees this 😂.
    I have struggled to find sewer sites up here. I'll find an awesome campground and then read there's no sewer. My view: we paid for that plumbing and we're going to use it!
    Seasonal sites seemed rare in MO. So much so that I didn't even know what they were until we moved to CT. I still don't understand it, but to each their own.

    • @gebertg
      @gebertg Před 11 měsíci +2

      Best: tough one.... we loved the Jellystone in Carver, MA eventhough it was only a Friday-Sunday trip. The activities could've been better organized and there weren't enough slots for laser tag. My only hold up saying this is the best is the price as you mentioned. It was a sunny Saturday so we got to use the water park which was our primary objective. I think (hope) the best is yet to come, hoping it's the Outer Banks over July 4th next year.
      Worst: KOA Grand Island Niagara. Great KOA park if you stay towards the front ($$), but we went with the cheap pull through sites in the back. Pricey sites towards the front are much better. Back sites are right on the highway and sites so close you had to ask your neighbors to move their vehicle to have a fire.

      The Jefferson Campground is perfect for exploring, the park is small and older but your not going to spend much time there, NH is so awesome you will always be gone exploring! If we had been in Washington when the pools were not freezing Cherry Hill might have been my number 1! Carver was pretty awesome even if they could use some work on the admin side of things!

    Great video. Your assessment of the people in Maine as full timers is spot on. People in general in the northeast are not very kind. I live in Rhode Island, travel for work in the south, and have a hard time going back home because of the people and attitudes.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 10 měsíci +1

      We found that a majority of the people in the NE live life at a much faster pace than the south! They are always in a hurry and have zero patience! We met some really amazing people along the way and now have life long friends, but we also met some not so amazing people! I noticed they like to look at my truck, see the Texas plate and say long way from home huh!

    We almost exclusively stay in state parks. Our two worst stays were in private parks with too many seasonal sites. Felt like we were intruders. However, the worst site we ever stayed in was right next to the play ground 😳
    Yes, we were that old couple getting annoyed by the noise. We thought it would be nice to sit outside and enjoy watching the kids play. The problem on this particular weekend is that NONE of the parents came to the playground with over two dozen kids of all ages. They screamed and screamed all day long from 6:30 am until long into the night. Yup, when it got dark they had flashlights turning the playground into a screaming disco 😳🤣
    Even with our shades down our bedroom looked like we were being raided by the cops with all the spot lights bouncing around the room. Lesson learned. Now we do our best to camp as far away from the playground as possible 🤣
    Our second worst site was right across from the bath house. For some reason all the people thought our Campsite was the path to the bath house. Drove our dog nuts. We ended up staying inside the entire time as it became hectic trying to keep our dog in check.

      We know what you mean by to many seasonal sites! It does feel like you don't belong as a traveling visitor! We have never had any parks that were bad because of other people in the park, but we have had a few where we had issues with management, or employees, but we do a pretty good job of vetting places now, so we don't find ourselves in those places again!

When making plans up the east coast sometimes the only choice you have in some of the areas we stayed was a choice between a place that wasn't so nice and a resort type place! If you count VA and north what does your per night average jump to? Sadly its what we deal with around here. I just booked our season ending RV trip in November south of Charlottesville, VA at the Charlottesville KOA and its going to cost about 79 a night.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 10 měsíci +2

      It would go up some because everything before VA we were paying less than our average of $69 a night! But I don't think it would go up all that much maybe to 75-80 a night average! What we learned is our old price vs. experience expectations had to change! Before this trip anything around $70 and we were at a resort we never need to leave! In the NE $70 is a basic average site, and if we wanted that really nice resort type experience, we had to get to $100 a night or more! This year was more resorts than we have ever stayed at, but in some areas, I had to decide between maybe not so great and a resort, and seeing how the price is higher than we are used at both, why not choose the bigger chain over the smaller not as nice places!

      You actually only need extra money if this was a vacation, and you had a home as well! This is actually alot cheaper than owning a home, it is also very sustainable, you have a job and you pay for how you live, we have a job and pay to live this way! It is no different than having a home, except we get to change our address and scenery often!

    Such a great video! We're weekend warriors here in NWPA and can only go to camp grounds within a 2-3 hour drive to make it worth the trip so we've been to a lot of the same ones over the years and looking at some of the ones you guys stayed at it looks like were getting ripped off lol. I will say, the season is much shorter around here so I get it but the average price around here seems to be in the low 70's and you usually get a pool and playground. I mentioned in another one of your videos, I think a lot of camp grounds at least around here are pricing themselves right out of business because there's not much to do around here unless you like hiking everywhere and about the only amenity you get is a pool for prices in the 70's. There's one area we stay at a few times a year called Cook Forest and one camp ground called Campers Paradise and love it there but it's a 3-5 day stay max because you run out of things to do.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 11 měsíci +3

      Thank you! For us $70 used to mean a really nice place with tons of things for the kids to do! In the NE we found $70 is usually not a very good place and you have to spend over $100 to get an amazing place, but even then the price doesn't always mean its going to be good! This NE trip has been fun but it was expensive and we stayed at a lot of parks that we normally wouldn't have stayed at but we were trying to ensure we had a good experience in and out of the parks!

    Very disappointed in this video. Your comments/complaints/price whining about parks you reserved are very subjective. Why do you complain about what is / isn’t open in areas the season dictates openings? I’m guessing you need content for the channel. That’s sad, besides all the complaints about your kid’s inability to do things is ridiculous. Personally that’s on you as parents. Maybe less negativity and find a new direction.

    • @PavingNewPaths
      @PavingNewPaths  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Our videos should be subjective, as they are told from our point of view about our experiences. It's interesting that you interpreted us as complaining and whining when we were simply just stating our experiences. We noted that things weren't open in some parks because it gives context to the overall experience and price. We've found that many parks charge the same price whether or not their amenities are open, while almost never telling you in advance what will actually be available for use when you arrive. The only negativity we see with this video is your comment about being displeased with how we share our experiences!
