I'm a baker and I've been watching your videos for ages, cos you have the right ethic and approach, as in, intellectual skills and attitude and the approach to work that i belive you can transfer across all the trades. In Spain where I live and have my oven, the "pala" is the peel for loading bread into an oven. In bricklaying the word for trowel is "paleta", almost the same thing. You're very inspiring and I learn a lot about where I am and what level I'm at in my craft from you, you give me motivation to keep learning and keep grafting, and the peipke keep coming to buy me bread, so thank you sir! "Analyse why you've been binned" is probably the best bit of advice you youngsters can take from this video. When I was younger I got sacked for making a dog's dinner of the cut ups on a gable end. The foreman took one look at it and binned me on the spot. I was embarrassed but on my way to the motor I saw him in the car park and purely out of interest I asked him why he'd sacked me. He didn't give me my job back but in all fairness to him he took me back up onto scaffold and explained to me how to properly measure the angle for the cut ups. I've carried a ten mil packer in my bag every since.

As a brickie foreman who’s recently started watching your videos, in my opinion the worst thing at the moment is agency’s. Chancers going Vauxhall market buying second hand tools say that they are trowels. It’s absolutely madness the amount of chancers out there. I make them build a sample panel now before I induct them. You are right about getting rid of the the shit. I only have decent trowels now

Your spot on my friend, great advice, but the problem isn't the youngsters. its the system, all sites and jobs are all about getting paid per brick, and getting built as fast as possible so youngsters just want to use a quick and easy profile. its a shame to see. Also they dont get the time or effort to help them learn and grow.
Most and I mean most bricklayers on site now with 4 or 5 year's experience think they know everything, just because they can fit a firebreak, ancon , insulation and put up a profile there the bollox. I went from being a foreman for 7 years to go back on the trowel as I just had enough, now I'm fucking sorry I did it as working with some of them is a liability to your own job . Time to find your own work imo .
