    You weren't joking when you said it would need fine tuning.
    It took me all afternoon yesterday fitting/coding the barrels, fitting the adaptor plate (890 ADV) and carrier, and filing the latch so it would lock.
    But once on the carrier wouldn't lock because the stop on the end of the spring loaded trap was too long.
    Today I have literally spent hours filing it with a chainsaw file, as access was very tight, and nothing else would do it. Avoiding damage to the black anodised finish meant a long slow process.
    How I didn't break the key I'll never know as I got more and more frustrated the more times I re-fitted and failed to lock the box. Finally at 3.30pm today the key turned ... what a feeling of relief!
    This box, carrier and adaptor plate cost me ÂŁ613 with no locks supplied, I feel Touratech need to up their quality control as this just is not good enough.
    Thanks for posting up the videos, the lock coding one proved very useful, and this one was a constant reassurance that "they're all like that Sir".

Sounds like you stuck at it though and did it all. Yup the fitting’s definitely could do with some fine tuning at the factory to make things easier. It's worth noting that even though you did this video a year ago, they are still churning them out exactly the same. The locking latches from my experience are a weak part of the design on these cases. I've just bought the set of 3. The topbox fits fine in my case with no need to do anything with the latch plate. The two panniers however won't lock when the cases are on the frame but will lock when they aren't. It seems to me that the two slots aren't lining up properly and even if I try push etc no joy :-(. It's in for its first service tomorrow so I will see if they can remedy the issue on both pannier boxes. They were ordered new with the bike but went on back order so I fitted the frame when it arrived and collected the boxes. I probably should have just let them do it given I'd paid the fitted price as part of the bike purchase. Trying to save them time backfired on me...

    Hey, thanks for this, it helped me key my bags for my 790 key. Now, my locks didn't come with the little latches that actually allow the lock to...well...lock. I pinched 2 from the previous owner...but now I can't actually lock the lids onto the cases. Any ideas?

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Pƙed rokem

      Hello there! Thanks for the comment and watching. Provided you have done everything correctly with the lock barrel and I mean all the pins perfect flush within the barrel with the key inserted. Then the problem of not being able to lock the lids onto the case can only be 1 of two things (I believe)
      A) have you got the direction of rotation correct for when the barrel itself turns and the hook is going where it should be going (ie turn clockwise should hook and prevent the lid from being opened)
      B) the alignment of the hook could be fractionally out. Meaning you just need to add a little pressure when turning the key maybe a little wiggle and it will then turn and lock. Look at the lock unit and the barrel and what happens when you turn the key. You’ll see what I mean. There is a chunk of metal that has to slot though.
      Good luck but it’s a little hard to guess exactly what situation your in without being there 👍

      Hiya Steve sorry for the late reply. To be fair it was such a long time ago now and I only can refer even myself to the video I uploaded. I know the lock was hard to turn. I never had a problem with it coming out as such. The problem I had was that I needed to grind a more rounded edge to the locking bar. As it would never nearly fit through the slots. Sorry if that is. It helpful to your actual question. But thank you kindly for the feedback and great to hear you found some of my stuff useful 🙏

    Apologies - but couldn't find the vid where you mentioned the radguards.
    In one of your videos you mentioned you'd purchased the R model rad guards (plastic) for your S. I've since purchased some guards from radguard Australia (still in production atm, to be shipped soon). I was on the touratech website and just discovered they now sell a set with decent openings for air flow yet they still state "Note: The radiator cover can cause the engine to overheat under extreme conditions with high outside temperatures and an extreme engine load.
    Please watch your water temperature gauge." The ones I'm meant to be getting apparently wrap around from the left to right radiators protecting the engine header in the process. My concerns are, having not sighted the finished product, how big are the openings on my ones (from previous discussions they'l likely be smaller than touratechs) and then how much air flow will be blocked by covering the engine header (even if this area will have holes in the material). I'd appreciate your thoughts on this and whether or not you've noticed any difference since installing yours? (obviously hot outdoor temps will mandate riding temp results).

    • @RicardoYeep
      @RicardoYeep  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      Hello mate! Good question and thanks for asking. Now I haven’t seen the Touratech radiator guards you mention. But I think with such a huge brand to add a warning is very cautious. Almost a “use at your own risk” in my opinion to protect themselves from any unwanted feedback in a worst case event. It is obvious that putting any cover even with maximum airflow is still going to reduce airflow to some extent. Whether it’s material difference is down to the cover in question.
      I can say I have not seen any heat issues using the oem ones from the R version.
      As mentioned the R version is designed predominantly off road biased and these come fitted standard. Off road you tend to be in low gears and travel speeds generally less. Meaning engine temps are running excessively higher.
      Given the above and the S is road biased running at road speeds, uses longer gears. In my opinion the oem guards will have even more airflow on the S
      I have thrashed my bike, hot weather, even two up on occasion and not see. Engine temp an issue 👍
      KTM would have done a lot of research on that given engine heat complaints in the past. Even redesigned the rad and fan locations on this new model.
      Im still yet to hear exactly why from an official source why they don’t ship the S with R guards. Until then I’ll still believe they’re are fine and work ok for me. And has saved my rad already.
      Also at £32 a pair is not expensive for an Oem part 👍
      Hope that helps? Cheers again Ric!
