Nehe Milner Skudder was different gravy and a sidestepping genius. It's a shame injuries plagued him for the remainder of his career post-RWC 2015

Despite the title, the Sky logo is also pertinent: the best sidesteps in HISTORY from games shown on Sky. That means no 6N, no Autumn internationals, no Phil Bennett for the '73 BaaBaas. Still, some good ones here, and (for me) worth it for that second Shane Williams one where he enlists half of the South Africa defence to get in the way of the other half.

Any sidestep by Phil Bennett - sometimes appearing to change direction in mid air - would make my compilation of all time favourite sidesteps. Apart from that noticeable omission this was a great compilation thank you!

I still can't quite wrap my brain around there being a time when if you were lining up against Wales you had Shane on one wing and George on the other. That must have required some fairly rapid adjustments if you hadn't twigged which winger was about to get their hands on the ball!

Waisale Serevi has the smoothest side step you’ll see beating many defenders.
There is a big difference between a side step and body swerve. Shane WIlliams, Robinson, Johnathan Davies, Phil Bennet etc natural side steppers.

Best try ever- Barbarians v NZ in 73, not included, but one or two pretty ordinary tries in there? Three brilliant side steps that I can recall- all by Phil Bennett (as Cliff Morgan said: Oh, that's brilliant"). He wasn't wrong.
There are many great steps to choose from. But I would have liked to see the Campese goose-step from the 80’s.

@michaelbrown984 Not for me. Coming from South Wales and having seen them all at their peak, Gerald Davies had the fastest side step at pace, closely followed by David Watkins. Phil Bennett was a fantastic player but his side step was far more deliberate and not executed at the same pace.
Have a look at Phil Bennets side steps Barbarians v NZ around 1970. Also Euan Evans Wales v Scotland around late 80s, both games in Cardiff. ❤
Impossible to be the best in History without a Phil Bennett , Gerald Davies , or Johnathan Davies , and jiffy did it in both codes !

You missed the ultimate sidestep - Jonah Lomu running straight over Mike Katt in the 1995 Rugby World Cup semifinal against England.

Phil Bennett, e.g Barbarians v All Blacks 1973, Wales v Scotland 1977. 2 great tries, the first finished by Edwards. There could be more by Shane Williams here.
You should've gone back to 1972, the Barbarians v the All Blacks, and Phil Bennett's double sidestep at the start of a wonderful move that saw Gareth Edwards crash over in the corner. This is considered the greatest try of all time because of the number of players who supported the breakout and handled the ball.

It’s quite evident in terms of the quality and flair, that what we call a step in the Southern Hemisphere is slightly different to you northerners. Northern hemisphere players just look stiff while stepping.
A step is a step lad. If it beats your opponent....your doing it right.

Gio Aplon was special.. He was a quicker version of Kolbe.. Just looked at his highlights package on CZcams. Never seen anyone score so many long range tries so easily..

Did you watch a different video to me? There were only 5 side steps by England in this 10 minute video. Not that many. They showed far more by NZ, SA, Wales and Ireland than they did from England. As Truth Before Opinions said, you clearly seem to not know the difference between the UK and England. Seems like you're including the whole of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland under England.
One tip. Never, ever mistake a Welshman for an Englishman. The Welsh are the original celtic inhabitants of Southern Britain. The two were fighting non stop from when the Romans left to 1410. It still shows on the rugby field!

What a misnomer. It should have added "shown by Sky Sports". Phil Bennett's epic example for the Barbarians in 1973 was captured for all eternity by the BBC, so that doesn't make the cut in this compilation.

The king of side step I ever seen in the history of rugby is Filimone Delasau from Fiji 🇫🇯. I never seen any rugby player to have a striking side step on both left and right footy. It just make the defenders bow down to the ground. Even Willian Ryder learned from him. Please someone has to collect all his game on rugby sevens and put on CZcams and realize what I'm talking about.
