- I'm getting ready for a bake sale and brought you along to whip up a batch of whoopie pies. Whoopie pies are a Pennsylvania Dutch treat. It's kinda like a soft cake like cookies with either a Buttercream or Marshmallow fluff filling.

Thank you for sharing! I cant wait to try these. We live in southern Indiana, the state...not the city. We learned about that when we visited your area and everyone kept asking us where we were from. We'd answer Indiana and they thought we hadnt traveled far. LOL We've been to visit Hershey, Lancaster, etc twice. I'm glad you mentioned working at Hershey. I didnt realize you were so close. My favorite thing I learned when we visited the first time back in 1994 was that a Hershey bar is never touched by human hands until you unwrap it!
Hershey Park was over an hour drive but it made for some great memories that summer!

Such a wonderful treat. My mom always made these for us as a sweet treat. I make them to this day as well. I usually make 4 batches at a time because everyone in my entire family loves them so of course I have to make them for each family! This is one of the reasons I bought a Bosch mixer, to do bigger batches at a time. It tends to go faster that way. My favorite whoopie pie is the classic chocolate with the marshmallow fluff filling YUM!

My mom used to make a variation of these she called Gobs. The cakes were the same but the filling was a cooked icing. She grew up in the Brethren Church in southwest Pennsylvania. I love your channel, it reminds me of mom! Much love from Oklahoma!
Oh wow! Thanks Karin! They do call them Gobs in that part of Pa. I bet she was a good cook. Cook icing would be a 7 minute icing maybe?
@@MennoniteFarmhouse she could bake like nobody's business, but she boiled or steamed just about anything else. We found out that microwaved chicken drumsticks bounced like a high-bounce ball the first time she used a microwave 🤣 she also would still cook for 12 hungry farmlands, even tho it was just 2 adults and 2 kids. Her cooking did improve tho, and I have lots of great memories of Sunday brunches and Christmas cookie marathon baking days! 🥰 much love from Oklahoma!

Oh my Lynne! I developed this recipe for our local strawberry festival thats the second weekend in June. They were a hit. I sold more of them than the traditional ones. I think they are my new favorite!!

Yes he is! I actually have three mixers… the 6 qt is worn out and can’t mix bread dough so I found a Bosch for $100 and 4.5 qt KA at real estate action for $100. So I’m good to go!

Loves these!!!! Grandma use to make them with a rhubarb filling. Not sure how it was made, but it was fantastic, of course anything rhubarb is fantastic to me!

Whoopie pies (AKA gobs) are a delicious treat. As for favorites, I would have to say I haven't had one I didn't like. I have had red velvet, lemon, oatmeal, chocolate chip, pumpkin, peanut butter, chocolate and I am sure there are others that I can't think of right now. The chocolate is the most versatile of them all. I have had chocolate with regular filling, chocolate filling, marshmallow filling, mint filling, peanut butter filling and mocha filling. All so good.
Wish I were at the bake sale, I would have bought some of your whoopie pies, the pecan sticky buns and the shoo fly pie.

I’m about two hours west of you! You probably know to use name brand Crisco and good quality ingredients for Whoopie pies…. I found out the hard way it makes all the difference! I only know a few Pennsylvania YTers and I haven’t met anyone just quite yet! This week I will meet one off camera! Maybe I will look you up when I come your way!

There is marshmallow filling as well. I just don’t use that kind of filling to sell at a bake sale on a 90F kinda day especially when there is raw egg whites in it. But I’m sure it’s amazing too!
I don't care much for the marshmallow. But I could go for a jam kind of filling. But it would most likely get soggy in the heat. I wonder If a carrot cake could be done like this. You are amazing at how you get me to think about making things I've never had.

My favorite whoopie pie or grandma called it a whoopie pie anyway was kind of sugar cookie flavored White or yellow with lots of walnuts in it with a maple filling and I know I couldn't need it now but darn was that good

@@MennoniteFarmhouse I definitely don't have a recipe to even start you out with just think some Maple nut ice cream on top of cookies or cake. That was my one grandma that I think that was raised Amish and she loved the maple flavoring and maple syrup Maple anything. Not a recipe to be had.

On a totally different food item (since I`m here) ..I made & canned your French Onion Soup this week..I used A-1 Bold & Spicy & it turned out wonderful!
It was a few of us that brought stuff to the bake sale but it takes work to bake all that. I rarely sell stuff that's been in the freezer more than a few weeks. I am glad you love the soup as much as I do!

Whoopie Pies are my absolute favorite. Question, could you use butter instead of Crisco for the cakes and filling?
I know you shouldn’t use Butter flavored Crisco for some reason, that’s what my church sister tell me. I don’t know what butter would do to the batter. I know you can use vegetable oil without a problem. I would say try it and see if it works!
