- Today I'm looking back at one of the great songs of rock from the early 00s. It's @tenaciousD's brilliant song "Tribute". I haven't heard this in a long long time and I have to say, it was a pleasure listening to it again. Also, I want to apologise to @JablinskiGames. I'm sorry Jack.
PLEASE NOTE: The copyright bots were in full swing on this one and I had to use really really short clips and speed them up a tiny bit. I hated doing but I kept getting flagged.

Thank you for explaining, I really wondered. Hugs from Denmark Lene61/🇩🇰🥰
I don't understand why this is happening to you, there are a lot of big reaction channels out there that react to entire songs and they don't seem to have this issue.
Bummer. That being said, you should also do a video on "Rize of the Fenix" 😁
An ongoing battle I really appreciate your work
Fight the power! Get Jack to ok the use!
It's not the greatest song in the world, this is just a tribute
I love it when people point out the obvious. Thank you!!
I came here to say this, but knew in my heart it had already been said.
Damn..you beat me to it!
Couldn't remember the greatest song in the wuh-herld, no...
@@burkhartlaw1
It's almost like it's a line from the song that also works as a response to the title of the video...
Not the greatest joke in the world, I'll admit, not even a tribute, but still just a joke.
What I love about Tenacious D is how they’re branded as a “joke” band but have created some amazing musical moments
My favorite song of their's is Wonderboy.
I see jack in an interview and he said they tried to right seriouse songs but they were shite lol
@@thepayne7862 great song, personally I could listen to the main riff of The Metal all day 🤘
@@kipcast6374 same here
@@thepayne7862 mine too! They surprised us with it during the encore a few years ago a Wembley Arena in the UK, it is possibly one of my favourite live music moments! It's such a great tune!
The idea of this not being the actual greatest song in the world, but rather a tribute, because they forgot the greatest song in the world is perhaps one of the most brilliant songwriting concepts ever. Even if you don't like it because it's "just a comedy song", the central conceit of the song itself deserves praise for its brilliance.
the moment in time where Tenacious D and Electric Six were actually getting airplay was really cool.
Jack Black's level of commitment is achieved by very few performers.
Every performance is a masterclass of full commitment and letting go of all inhibitions.
All artists could learn a lot from this great man.
I will not accept any criticism of The D.
They are ROCK GODS.
Anyone who disagrees is a smelly poo poo head.
Very well said, I agree fully
Ever heard of a fella who goes by the name Jim Carey?
I rather compare him to John Candy then Carey
There's a part in The Pick of Destiny that still makes me bawl with laughter, just by thinking about it. It's when Jack is having a trip from eating shrooms and meets Sasquatch. The part in particular is when they're in the Strawberry River, but then it cuts to Jack, getting washed away by rapids in a real river. Makes my sides hurt. 🤣
'Juicy...'
"You're my son, JB. My widdle baby Sas!"
LOL even though I’m not a fan of the tripping portion of the film, that moment does make me laugh
That part always cracks me up, too! That, and “time to FWY!!!”
Tribute and Wonderboy are both God tier songs. Adding them to the Spotify playlist I force my gradeschool daughters to listen to in the car now.
But not cock pushups?
Wonderboy is one of the greatest songs ever... period!
City Hall rocks
With powers COMPARABLE to Wonder Boy!! Lol😍
Wonderboy always blows me away because Jack hits some authentically beautiful phrases and then goes on to talk about the most absurd nonsense a beat later. The dichotomy is powerful and never dull.
The D are so good live! I saw them at the House of Blues in Chicago years ago. JB asked the crowd how we all knew the lyrics to their songs. Clearly we were all fans of the HBO show, as I don’t think they had released an album. Sasquatch was there too. It was epic!
be honest, we all knew songs early because of limewire and napster.
I saw them in Houston. Jack's personality is so amazing and contagious. He positively changes the mood of everybody in the room with him no matter how many many people it is.
What HBO show is this? I never knew there was (possibly) a Tenacious D show??! I loved the movie, and all their albums, and I also got to see them at Leeds Festival in 2008 and it was hands down one of the best live performances I’ve seen. They even had the ‘The Metal’ robot and JB played the legs guitar. Amazing.
@@Adelehalsall It was just called Tenacious D, and it was definitely on HBO. I believe it was on in 1997 or around that time. The songs were so good! I think you can find the episodes or at least the songs on CZcams.
@@LisaE444 I have to watch this! I always listened to the first D album and loved the songs but didn’t know they had an origin from a TV show they did. Thanks for the recommendation!
Both tenacious d and steel panther craft really good melodic songs. They may have silly lyrics but they're really good songs.
And Jack Black and Kyle Gass harmonize really good together.
I was at a gig you played at a few months ago at Wembley Arena and this came on during the break between acts and THE ENTIRE arena started singing along. It was crazy.
Great gig!
Same at Manchester haha - Was this the Black Stone Cherry double header?
@@punchyb1 yes it was.
Roadie is both a fantastic love letter to the crews that make the shows happen, and an absolute banger of a tune. Only they can pull it off the way they do!
The roadie knows what the roadie knows, and the roadie knows that he wears black clothes
The D was absolutely a different take on the monster-ego quasi-parody rock persona that The Darkness was delving into in the early 2000s.
I always liked the acoustic original version, with the many Stairway To Heaven lifts to imply that it was indeed Stairway To Heaven that they played to the demon.
They include the Stairway bits on the episode of the HBO show the song comes from.
Their live cover of Wicked Game is stunning!
Rize of the Fenix is a fantastic song that's basically a journey through rock history.
And i said nay!
We are butt men!
@@DaveDuncanMusic RAWK!
We are but men! ROCK!
The harmony in the scat section literally gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Rarely do I comment on a CZcams video, but Tenacious D are wonderful and the Pick of Destiny is one of the greatest movies in the world (not a tribute)! Well said Sir Hawkins.
Ah yeah, like anything, it takes a little practice to assert your unique individuaaaalism.😊😅
Funny how they credit their talent to Satan?
Amazing movie, sasquatch scenes were some of the funniest and a great song when JB is tripping lol
The mission is clear! I'm going over there!
I LOVE Jack Black! He is a lovely, generous, talented man
I adore you and as a fan since the 2000’s it’s wild that this channel is now a thing I get to watch. All the best from Seattle xx
I laughed for months when that first album came out, but I also regarded it as a tender, affectionate tribute to the music we both obviously adore. And the fact that my boyfriend seranaded me with "Fuck her Gently" soon after will forever cement this album in my nostalgic favorites. 🤘🏻😂🤘🏻
In the early 2000s, a buddy and I hosted open mic night at a bar and that became our most requested closer. Hahahaha
TD always push boundaries, and for the most part, I think they're hilarious. However that song is disgusting in my opinion... can't bear to listen to it....makes me cringe 😬😬😬
The guitar player from the Vandals does the solo. Dave plays drums and rhythm guitar.
Great video Justin, dubbed after the Ren interview and have been really enjoying the content. You’re very articulate and you have a very beautiful ear for music man. Sending love from Tennessee!
So good!!!!! Thank you for this! (The Live at Sidney version also sparketh much joy!!!)
I revisited this recently and it still brings me so much joy and amusement 💜
Yes! This is what we've all been waiting for
Much love to you Mr. Hawkins ❤
Their entire self-titled LP was absolute fire all the way through!
EXPLOSIVO!!!
Donkey crap
Love this song, longtime favorite of mine. Thanks for covering it!
Justin, whoa. I could listen to you all day! Great voice, great video. Keep going bro!
Love them, not to mention they drew me to your stuff, they are good and talented people as are you Sir, ty!
Very quality video! Enjoyed this quite a bit, had a great lot of fun watching. :)
I saw Tenacious D live, they’re so so so so good!!!
Love you take on all of these songs, Not just the excellent D. Just brilliant!
Cracking stuff. I have many happy memories of a car full of mates on a road trip somewhere, all belting out classics from both Tenacious D (the record) and Permission to Land. Thanks for the tunes chaps. 🤘
Excellent video again! Love TD. Would love your take on Infant Sorrow seeing as we are exploring the wonders of comedy rock!
Loving your watch collection!
You have amazing style! I don't know how you look younger than I remember from when I was younger listening to the Darkness! Glad to see you're doing well and love the videos.
When I saw them live... their opening act was a couple of kids they had seen busking in the street the day before. I say kids, I mean 7 years old, that were nervous as hell but awesome. Such an awesome concert! Legends!
Thank you for reviewing this song it never fails to amaze and put a smile on your face
Bloody hell can't believe it was that long ago 😭 ps your PF interview was epic! I've now subscribed, thank you so much for introducing us to his genius, I laughed till I cried at the chilli peppers episode🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dude, you're looking really well! Great to see!!!
I always thought you were a talent, I didn't realize I would be listening to every video you posted on youtube tho! I enjoy them alot, keep it up brethren!
When we needed him most, Mr Hawkins provided
A great video as always Mr Hawkins, thank you ❤️❤️❤️
I love their humour, and they clearly do not take themselves too seriously, but musically I love what they do.
Every time I watch TPOD I gain a deeper appreciation for their music, their playing, their humor, their genius.
It’s such a delight to see this featured on your channel, the video is just way too short!
This is a brilliant song. One of my all time favourites. It rocks out really nicely and just epitomises rock.
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnnn!! 🎶🎶🎶
You have to explain your bookshelf
It's like a pastiche of rock throughout the ages. Long live The D.
With tenacious d, lyrics aside, they are top class in musicality and the complexity of the songs, they are always surrounded by great musicians and Jack and Kyle both are really good vocalist/guitarist
I'm going to see them in London in June with my sons and I'm so excited! I loved them for years and I'm pleased my boys love them too!!
I love rock and I love Tenacious D, thanks for the validation / confirmation! Energy and commitment go a long way, not to mention that Gass is bloody talented.
Saw them back to back weekends a month ago. So incredible. Love JB and KG
I listened to the whole album again recently. It still holds up again most modern attempts at rock!
I've listened to them thousands of times, and they still crack me up!! Nothing can kill the metal.
I watch your reviews a lot. I love watching The Daily Doug reviews. He is interesting and I enjoy his insightful reviews. Others too. But to me its just by far that your reviews are the best due to your wonderful humor and clever delivery. So yes I did enjoy this review but I just wanted to chime in here to remind you of how awesome you are. Besides all your great music and live shows you have become a force to reckon with here with your CZcams videos. Keep up the great work there my good fellow!!
Fookin awesome dude thanks for doing the mother fookin D. That first album is just the nuts. I personally can't wait to travel in tubes also ❤ The stuff they were doing around the viper room time like sasquatch is just hilarious. keep up the smashing work captain rock n roll 🤘
What is also genius about it is that when you have a band, you probably experienced making something awesome jamming in rehearsal and a week later no one in the band remembers that, just like what happened with them.
I loved this song when it first came out. And still love it now. ☺
They are tremendously talented! Love them!
Love this breakdown from a true rock Jedi ❤️🤘❤️
Love the bookshelves behind you!
Love Jack Black and TenaciousD. Thanks for another great reaction and analysis. keep up the good work.
For comments day excellent work my friend on the channel Me and my wife saw you in Cardiff earlier this year and you absolutely owned it, can't wait to see you guys again. Glad to hear youve got yourself a telecaster you won't be disappointed any chance of you showing us on here and any plans to use it on future gigs also any chance of getting your thoughts or a review on Status quo in the future
What a great analysis! I love you Justin. I love The D! I love the Arkness!
How was I not aware you had a YT channel?? Went to see you at Hammersmith in 2011 when Brian May played with you and it was one of the greatest nights of my life to see my heroes live. Thank you for everything you do Justin and never stop rocking
I love this one so much... listen to it often!
Every time you cover a banger from the 2000s, the teenager in me squeals with delight. The planet is getting a bit warm and the economy might be shit, but this bit of the future right here is awesome!
You can arrested for that sort of behaviour!
@@Dadaadad268 it took me a hot second to get it but i love it. fucking hilarious
How could you not just love this?
Couldn't agree more Justin. They are fookin' awesome 👍👍👍👍
Jack's all over CZcams... That would be a fantastic interview/Collab 😮
I have a strong urge to sing Wonderboy at a public karaoke night because it's fun and funny to freeze a group of strangers with either your unexpected talent or brazen absurdity. A tone-deaf friend of mine 'sang' D'ya Think I'm Sexy once and all conversation stopped. It was magical.
Wonderboy is a brilliant song and video!
Mind bullets!!
I agree in every word and line you say about rock music, Tenatious D and their music. They are very talented both musically and as comedians. Very enjoyable.
Too good Brother as always!
"We are but men -- ROCK" is both hilarious and unironically one of the great lyrics of all time.
Another legit good comedy rock song you should react to is Weird Al - Albuquerque
Great Video Justin, this is a tribute!!!!
Thanks Justin. I had completely forgotten about this one. Sending it to my kids😅
I saw tenacious d love a couple of years back and it was truly awesome!!
I had the same wild amazed and grateful appreciation for 'I believe in a thing called love'. It was so off the wall but the singing and musicianship was unbelievable. I was a fan from day one. And yes I had heard the tribute to the greatest song in the world years before. ❤
100% agree Justin, it’s absolutely brilliant and it always has been. 😊
i was listening to this the other day.... i love the line: we are but men.... rock! Aaaaaah!!!!!!
LOVE Tenacious D! Such musical talent from a place you wouldn't expect it.
‘Attention to detail’, I hate to admit and acknowledge I quite ignorantly really didn’t pay enough attention to detail and appreciate the music of ‘my generation’ properly at all, almost like I listened to the tunes but not the words kinda attitude. But I sure am loving paying attention to detail of these greats now! Thanks for bringing these gems back to us Justin!
Side note, coincidentally I came across Jack Black’s CZcams channel earlier today and had a great time!
Just to put your mind at rest, if I ever meet you, I am nobody. Loving the channel getting better every day. Your vids about past life are powerful and inspirational. Very best to you sir.
Saw them supporting the Fooeys on the Gold Coast about 10 years ago ...a couple of very talented individuals who rocked and gave everybody a bit of a laugh what more could you ask for
This is so awesome. I love this song.
Hi Justin - in February this year we went to see the Darkness at Wembley Arena. Ten minutes before you went on Tribute started playing on the PA. Gradually over the first verses people started to join in, to the point where the whole crowd were singing along. It was quite an awesome experience and connection. Maybe it is the greatest song in the world after all?
Kyle gass is classicly trained , really good guitar player
Youngest graduate of the prestigious Juilliard School ever lol
Damn right. Getting that noise out of an acoustic takes prodigious talent.
This is just a tribute
Among the list of my most listened to songs in my 2022 recap, along with music from The Voidz, RTJ, and Clutch, was The D's Master Exploder lol, really made me feel good about myself and the choices I'm making in life tbh.
At uni they would play this in our fave indie/rock nightclub and I have such fond memories. Definitely one of the greatest songs in the world
It really is masterfully written and composed. It's proggy without being bloated. That short a cappella section harkens back hundreds of years to powdered wigs and harpsichords, while remaining playful and fun...and not pompous or stuffy. And the song also calls back to the old American blues tradition of meeting the devil at a crossroads. And it also hints that maybe the best song in the world is "Stairway to Heaven", which I wouldn't necessarily agree with, but can appreciate.
And I just want to say to you Justin, that I always appreciated your band and your music for having a bit of a tongue-in-cheek approach towards the grandiosity of 70s arena rock. I always say that parody has to come from a place of love, because otherwise it's just mean-spirited. And although The Darkness isn't a comedic or parody band per se, I think you guys put just enough of that into your music and performances to let the audience know that you're not taking yourselves too seriously.
I actually forgot about this song for maybe 10 years and when I did get back to watching/listening to it again it was probably one of the most enjoyable 2 and a half minutes of my life.
Ah, the few bars of Stairway they drop in as a little hint...
There is absolutely no denying the vocal talent of Jack Black!!!!
Two things can be true at the same time, it can be a "send up" but also brilliant as a stand-alone. For instance, Stonehenge and Big Bottom by Spinal Tap are awesome and I would buy the music from that film even if it weren't a Mockumentary.
Yeah same with the song America, flower people... Legitimately pleasing to the ear. And would be even if they weren't comedy songs
Talk about Mudflaps... my Girls got em! :)
@@darrenwells2277 How could I leave this BEHIND.? Ya see wot they did there?😆
Yes the song is awesome! I love it, and I am quoting lines from the move Pick Of Destiny to this day 😄 " I love the rock and the roll"
Brings back memories man. Mad watching a Lowestoft icon speak upon such matters 💪
