    In my opinion (please don't hate me):
    Cosworth STi's gear ratio setting was a bit wide for the course, maybe also the reason why it understeers. But it's acceleration is amazing.
    And maybe Kazama-san is probably not used to those wide gear ratios.
    Mine's R34 gear ratio setting was just right. The rest of the car are well-balanced.
    Besides, Tsuchiya-san is already racing since his debut in 1985 Fuji Freshman Series. So we can expect great skills from him.
    I'd say it's a matter of getting used to it. You should drive the way that works with the car. That's all I can say.

    when you drive a car with that much torque and power, on a track like this and you go redline but next gear will force you another shift before cornering, this means gear ratio is not suitable to the track and you loose time shifting or by missing shiftpoint knowingly because it´s not wort a shift.
    Do you see how he´s working on the pedals in the STI? He´s already heel toe shifting like hell while the Skyline has a easy time. Tribute to the Kazama because he really had a hard time.

      The beauty of Mine's cars are they all were built for balance. Instead of just pursuing big power, they focused on response and neutral handling albeit GTR is an AWD. They were not even bother with unnecessary things. For example, to get better aero, they just added better front bumper with canards to improve front grip and leaving other parts as stock, which made the car has less understeer and avoid unnecessary drag in high speed.

      yes balance is correct, but also need the right amount of power and response, then when it's all mixed up you get a serious beast.
      many people think bang outright power is the key, when they are very wrong.
      since I brought mine, I have around 600hp and drive it on 500hp unless I need to show off etc overtake blah blah...
      and my friend has recently brought a tuned m3 turbo with 700hp, we went to some open roads in Surrey hills UK, he cannot keep up, or even get close to overtake.. I have tried to copy the mines setup as close as possible but with a z tune customs wider body..

They don't bring their fastest r34 GTR, only if they actually see a reason why they should, usually they bring the 2nd fastest of three. +ATTESA ET-S NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 R34 Z TUNE true but hey, the subaru had a unmatching gear ratio that time, if it had the matching gear ratio, the match would've been close. But, the problem about this one wasn't just the gears, it was pushing too much power for this course, which cause the huge amount of understeer to occur. If it had less power, it would've been easily balance. But again, Impreza GDB were known for horrible understeer anyway but so does the R34 although it would last longer by a lap. But hey, the R34 will wear off due to heavy weight pushing or compressing into the tires in the front too. Well that's what the ATTESA-ETS is for right? xD

    • @skepticalskeksis221
      @skepticalskeksis221 Před 8 lety +6

      Well let's be fair. The Subarus bread-and-butter is off of the pavement. It also has four doors and is one third of the price. That being said the GTR is far superior. Now that I think about it I would like to see the GTR take on the rally stage. I don't believe the GTR's differentials would cope very well. Especially a modern GTR being heavily reliant on electronic intervention. Anyway still was worth watching.

    • @skepticalskeksis221
      @skepticalskeksis221 Před 8 lety +8

      Also STI's AWD is not useless. The managed to take 1st in every rally stage in the United States and Japan last year. As well as dominating every car in his class as well as many in the class above at the 24H of NBR the past two years. I also find the 35's powertrain layout to be not cohesive to international motorsport. A high mounted DOHC with a transaxle and that double driveshaft weirdness puts power down. But at the cost of weight high center of gravity price and complexity. Does the R 34 share the same drivetrain traits? I always liked the R34, it's a damn unicorn in the states.

    • @pascalmpower7944
      @pascalmpower7944 Před 8 lety +5

      GTRking1000 Exactly, it has too much power and that proves my point. The DCCD AWD system works different than GT-R's ATTESA. The ATTESA is RWD until you slip more than the yaw rate feedback control allows. In other word, you can use the throttle to control the yaw of the car and the AWD will split effective power to front axle then pull you out while DCCD sends a lot of power to front axle which leads the front to lose traction before the rear and reduce its handling adjust-ability.

    what do gear ratios have to do with understeer

    • @Jojo_Bee
      @Jojo_Bee Před 3 lety +1

      Gear ratios affect speed, if a certain corner is best for certain gear, then a gear that is too fast may mean too fast corner speed on entry. If you switch one gear lower, you may be nearing the top range of the RPM band on corner exit too soon. These are manual transmission cars, and shifting to the next gear also costs time. Torque on mid range RPM is ideal on when you're mid-corner. It can be frustrating to tackle corners when the gear ratios don't match a corner's speed. This is my best understanding... I am not a pro by any means.

      That but also its a 06-07 STI which has a 41:59 power split ratio, the STI's prior had 35:65 and oversteered more not understeered. In japan all STIs until 2008 had the 35:65 power split so more RWD bias. The STI in the video is US market unfortunatly..JDM market is far better. if they needed to use a US market STI it should have been 2005 but either way it has the inferior EJ257 and not the JDM market EJ207.

      Wouldn't make much difference. Kazama is also a pro driver. We all know Tsuchiya can do wonders in a car but that STi just isn't set up well at all. The Mine's R34 is the best street/track R34 GTR tuned by a legend. It would win this battle regardless. Especially the way it did in that situation.

    im the least thing you'll find that resembles anything american, in fact i hate A LOT of things about america. if you watched the rest of the actual footage of this race, it is true that the other skyline was supposed to run against the mines, while it had problems the next runner up (sti) was put in its place and you will see from the other footage i am in fact correct about the sti being poorly tuned, it is hard to tune an sti, especially on a touge, sti's are not american, the tuner was

    Well that what you say is seen a lot in American politics, more arguing about what they did wrong in the past than what has to be done to fix the country :p However that winner mentality comes from Europeans from the past until not even that long ago. Americans dont longer see themselves as EU's looking for opportunities in a different land but see themselves as Americans who are the best in everything, not knowing anything about the rest of the world. Dw, Asia is claiming its throne back :p

    yeaknow why america acts like this, well look at what this country was founded on... Competition, yes people wanted land more than anything because who had the land had the votes and in turn power. now later on down the road what does a competition based mind set turn into? i would say an extremely judgmental attitude, always searching out the competition to find their weakness to overcome/1-up them. apology on the 1st comment, i was more angry when i wrote in in reply to the other guy

    Thats what an excusemaking American says when he sees an American product losing. As an European, with no patriotic prejudices, I can tell you that Mine's is one of the best tuning companies in the world which never brags. Japenese people arent braggers in the first place, more like the opposite. Actually maybe you should watch yourself in your American mirror. Now in this vid an American car can do nothing more than be fast in a straight line, thats nothing new, welcome to American carhistory.

    Well as far as I can see, as someone who is actually studying towards Asia, I see an ignorant American with a weird smile on his face offering his fat hand, with this shoving his culture into someones elses throat at 1:00. The Japanese sir reacts humble and introvert and this has to do with his cultural background. There is nothing arrogant about this reaction at all. However shoving your culture into someones throat, which america is very familiar with, is arrogant. Sometimes unconsciously tho.
